Final Top 247 list for 2017

Submitted by Magnus on

The final Top 247 was released (LINK). Dylan McCaffrey isn't as high on the list as some surely would like to see, and Donovan Peoples-Jones took a bit of a drop (he's still a 5-star). However, Luiji Vilain is at #36, which is four spots away from being a 5-star, and Michigan has seven guys in the top 100.

I listed all the targets/commits here if you're interested (LINK).

Some Magnus reasons:

  • Sr season not materially better than Jr season
  • Needs to get college S&C
  • Arm strength needs upgrade (see S&C)

I'm pretty sanguine on any individual QB.  Only 1 can play at a time.  If you hit on 1 out of 3 you are fine and others are going to end up transferring anyhow.  Just keep recruiting good ones and a few will pan out.  Some won't.  Even those in the top 50.

Last year people saw what Christian could do and equated to potential / high ceiling for Dylan.  Another factor - it is understandable for a kid to hit a growth spurt and stand 6'4" 185 his junior year. When he comes back at 6'4 185" for his senior year, he is no longer a prototypical 5-star pro-style QB.  On the field junior and senior year were both solid, ending in State Championships.

The kid is a winner - but he has to add 30-40 lbs and some velocity to his throws before he'll see the field.

Could be similar to how I was when I was his age. I could eat 3000+ calories a day and barely gain a pound despite my strength going up on from weight training. Wasn't until I was 21 when I was able to start adding some bulk, and even then not until my mid 20's until I got over 200lbs - granted i'm 5'11" and not 6'4", but sometimes it takes people a while to get their "mature" body.
