one spot from a 5*
January 17th, 2012 at 12:50 PM ^
This was the case before the update as well.
January 17th, 2012 at 1:11 PM ^
As long as Scout keeps his rating the same, then he's a 5* in my book. Kinda like a national championship, I'll take one in either poll.
January 17th, 2012 at 1:21 PM ^
Scout's current rankings are final.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:32 PM ^
Highest rated four-star. So close.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:37 PM ^
Man, did Pipkins skyrocket. Great to see, since he will be so heavily relied upon from day one.
January 17th, 2012 at 1:37 PM ^
and, for what it's worth, a higher rank than Shittu and Schutt, the other two DTs he was being compared with last year.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:40 PM ^
Nice job Ondre!
January 17th, 2012 at 12:42 PM ^
Combine this Pipkins news with Mathlete's analysis, and we have a surefire stud on our hands!
January 17th, 2012 at 12:43 PM ^
just like BWC!
January 17th, 2012 at 1:40 PM ^
HOW DARE YOU POST THE TRUTH!!
January 17th, 2012 at 1:54 PM ^
I like that my post and the BWC post were both negged even though they were both 100% true. Good times. I forgot the mgocommunity likes their message board posts slanted and spun like a North Korean run media outlet.

But, I still don't think anything that I or ish said was stupid. ish was just pointing out that Pipkens, like Will, is a high rated 5-star DT coming out of HS, and like all recruiting rankings, to take that with a massive grain of salt because nothing is ever a sure thing. In three years of playing time, Will hasn't done anything. Hardly the makings of a "surefire stud." But, for pointing out the turth, ish was tagged as a troll. Makes total sense.
As for me, I commented that both he and I were negged for posting something true. What's stupid about that?? And if you're going to try and argue that Will is living up to expectations or is primed for a monster senior season, I would argue that you're stupid. There's zero evidence in three years of playing that he's primed for anything approaching a breakout season. Could it happen, sure. Stranger things have happened. Would I bet $5 on it? Hell no.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:51 PM ^
NSIS, but you may have misunderstood the Mathlete's post.
January 17th, 2012 at 6:15 PM ^
Leave.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:42 PM ^
payton makes it inside the top 100.
so did yuri wright, suprisingly.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:54 PM ^
seems like the recent chatter on all three has been less than glowing. Not sure what to make of all that. Probably all relative - they're excellent players, but not as excellent as the benchmark in their class at their position? Anyway, congrats to all
January 17th, 2012 at 1:11 PM ^
I wonder whether the sites try not to downgrade kids based on their performances at these all-star games. If they did, some top recruits might stop coming (and they'd have to deal with some pissed off kids and parents).
January 17th, 2012 at 12:43 PM ^
I expected Bolden to make the list.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:44 PM ^
good point, but keep in mind that Bolden went to the UA All-American game, sponsored by ESPN. Pipkins went to the Army, which Rivals covers. those things influence each company's ratings.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:50 PM ^
Ya, I agree. These things are partially objective and partially based on every site doing what's best for them and their rankings. Thus you get ESPN's biased toward southern prospects and UA game participants, and Rivals biased toward the Army game.
January 17th, 2012 at 2:56 PM ^
Hemholdt said on Twitter that Bolden made a significant leap in rankings, just not into the top 100 obviously. We will know more tomorrow. I would expect RJS, T-Rich, Ross, Bolden, and Wilson to all be in the top 250. Wormley and Strobel also
January 17th, 2012 at 12:43 PM ^
Surprised Bolden didn't make it. No love for Ross, T-Rich, or RJS either
January 17th, 2012 at 12:47 PM ^
Hoping that Payton comes on board. Darboh , Payton and Chesson are all NFL-type receivers, big guys who can leap, have good hands and decent speed.
January 17th, 2012 at 1:09 PM ^
Interesting. I've been thinking of this as an outstanding class that didn't necessarily have superstar power at the top, but having three of the top 33 would suggest otherwise.
January 17th, 2012 at 1:16 PM ^
Between the two major services, it would be three 5* players if Garnett goes blue instead of carndinal.
January 17th, 2012 at 1:25 PM ^
Payton was praised for his play at the Army AA game? Wasn't he awarded best hands or something like that?
January 17th, 2012 at 1:47 PM ^
Hopefully he does not go to ND.....
January 17th, 2012 at 1:38 PM ^
How did Mags fall? He looked really good playing guard at the AA Bowl. Ohh well, he will be a beast at Michigan. Just think if we can land Garnett.
Kalis, Garnett, Magnuson, Bars, Stacey and Braden.....hell, i could run behind that line!
January 17th, 2012 at 1:46 PM ^
I am not worried about their ranking of him. I can cite plenty of high school players that were (for whatever reasons) underrated by Rivals and turned out pretty darn good and conversely plenty of players ranked in the vaunted Rivals Top 100 who did not amount to much. I have seen enough of Magnuson on film. I am pretty confident he will be a very solid player at Michigan. And yes, he played actually pretty well at the AA, and especially considering that they were shifting him around all the time.
January 17th, 2012 at 2:23 PM ^
I still remember a pretty old Rivals article from one of the summer camps where they raved about him and even insinuated that they thought he played better than Banner, who is 5 star now also. Additionally, Magnus broke down the Army game and seemed to think some of the criticism of Mags at the game was unfounded especially since he was playing a completely new position. He seemed to think he played better than critics claimed. I am not too worried. He will be pretty good.
January 17th, 2012 at 2:01 PM ^
Burbridge gets bumped out. Back of the line, Sparty!!!
January 17th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
No players from the state of Michigan. Interesting.
January 17th, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
these new rankings put ohio's class ahead of ours, for rivals at least
January 17th, 2012 at 2:53 PM ^
No, they picked up an OL today. 4 star on Rivals, 3-star on the others I believe. They jumped Flordia as well.
How many more people are they taking by the way? Anybody know?
January 17th, 2012 at 2:54 PM ^
O'Conner I believe. Was committed to Penn State
January 17th, 2012 at 3:09 PM ^
Geez, they're doing a great job at raiding their inter-divisional rival.
January 17th, 2012 at 3:19 PM ^
Exact same numbers of 4 and 5 stars on rivals but more 3 stars, which lowers our average and bumped OSU up. We need to get Garnett and Reeves so we can jump them. I will be so pissed if they pull out a higher ranked class after tatgate and sanctions. No karma.
January 17th, 2012 at 3:49 PM ^
They also have more spots to fill than we do, we probably wont pass them.
January 17th, 2012 at 4:04 PM ^
They benefited more from the PSU scandal than we did from their scandal. Take away just Spence and we are higher.
January 17th, 2012 at 4:28 PM ^
We cant just "Take" away Spence, now can we? Regardless of how they got him, they got him. Not good, Im not liking this Urban thing one bit. Hes already surpassed us in recruiting? Are you freakin' kidding me? he hasnt even been there for 2 months, SMH.
