Felipe Franks starting for Florida
August 30th, 2017 at 6:18 PM ^
I cannot imagine McSharky keeping an inexperienced rattled non-mobile QB like Franks going past halftime if he's sacked and rushed at least 10 times. Zaire at least stretches the field with his legs and gives them variety and some unpredictability. Gary and Hurst might be fasting until game time when they plan to have dinner.

Jim McElwain names Feleipe Franks as #UF's starting QB against #Michigan.
— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) August 30, 2017
McElwain on why Feleipe Franks is the No, 1 QB: "It was the whole body of work from spring on.. He deserves it. He's done a good job."
— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) August 30, 2017
McElwain on perception that things are out of control at UF: "We're not afraid to make a decision and we're not going to hide anything."

is well...he's not suspended.

This is the real reason Franks is starting. Yes that is Jim McElwain riding him in the preseason after he was finished with the shark.

Think this was the best case for us. I still have a semi-irrational pavlovian fear of running QBs built up from decades of watching us get shredded, so I'll take the classic drop back guy every day. Especially the inexperienced classic drop back guy with a meh O Line versus Gary and Hurst and Chase.

Yeah, I'm also not cured of the RR/Hoke PTSD. I feel good (actually, really good) about this team's potential, and next year and onward look great.
But I guess I need more time (and fewer bizarro losses) to shake it completely.

This IS the SEC, so it could very well be both, or in that vast gray area between the two states.
Of course, I still wonder even in the light of the most recent suspensions if any of these mysteriously get resolved, say, on Friday afternoon.

That is mezmerizing

I dated a girl like that once.

hope we beat the snot out of the gators. Hope DL applies a lot of pressure.

Zaire gets a couple series. "Mac" is too clever for us.
August 30th, 2017 at 6:48 PM ^
...Feleipe Franks isn't a Jameis Winston-esque or Sam Darnold-esque or Marucs Mariota-esque talent, we should win this game.

and beans!

I wouldn't write him off completely. And I think this is a good move from UFs stand point. Build for the future, unless Zaire was completly lights out.
Kind of feel for a player like Zaire though.

for UM, but the second-best u in the SEC. I am hoping my daughter earns a free ride there on our state scholarship program. (My wife teaches at FSU.) Jorts notwithstanding, it has some strong programs. (I did my doctorate there, only place I applied.) Top ten Latin American Studies programs, perhaps unsurprisingly. Top ten anthro program. Top ten Ecology program.
Not being defensive, but the school struggled through 30% budget cuts after 2008 and still maintained its standing. And as with M, the very large alumni network hurts when the football program is bad.
I grew up in A2, and have never been able to bring myself to root for UF in anything, despite the fact that my wife's whole family went there. I won't be surprised if McElwain is gone this year or next; my brother-in-law, who knows people who know people ( :)) says he is on thin ice.

And there is a very good chance he'll be feeling the hits well past the game.
August 30th, 2017 at 7:09 PM ^
Odds are slim he'll finish. Don MF Brown's going to unleash the hounds on that youngster.
August 30th, 2017 at 7:52 PM ^
Hounds?. Brown is going to unleash the scariest, nastiest boogeyman that ever entered your subconcious and made you never want to go to sleep ever again. I will be surprised if Franks makes it to halftime. There will be no mercy in this game. Florida should learn to keep there yaps shut.
August 30th, 2017 at 11:12 PM ^
I like this. Let's make sure this happens.
August 30th, 2017 at 7:18 PM ^
I went over to florida.247sports.com to check this out and found this gem from one of their writers.
It's going to be a by committee thing, I believe. Zach Gentry is a potential matchup problem, he's a very good athlete and is super tall. But Ian Bunting and Tyrone Wheatley Jr. will both play too and might get more looks. I don't see any glaring mismatches with Michigan's tight ends.
August 30th, 2017 at 8:40 PM ^
"At this point, every preseason magazine (forever) should just list "weed and stealing shit" as a weakness for Florida."
That's funny right there

I expect to see Zaire before halftime, maybe even by the third series.
August 30th, 2017 at 8:02 PM ^
UM's corners are going to be tested. Felippo Franks spine is going to be tested. Zaire can't throw the ball and I highly doubt he knows the playbook. It has never ever mattered who Florida is playing. Michigan's d-line will dominate everyone and Michigan will smash Florida. Michigan is a violent football team. I would'nt doubt that Nordin knocks someone out of the game. LOL.
August 30th, 2017 at 8:06 PM ^
Going to have a few small heart attacks each time Franks slings one 40 yards downfield
But this is good. A freshman QB without his leading WR and starting RB against our tenacious D-line.
Our young secondary will have plenty of oppurtunities for INTS
August 30th, 2017 at 8:09 PM ^
Franks changed his twitter bio to "Hard work beats talent when talent doesnt want to work hard"
Pretty sure thats a shot at Zaire lol. This Florida is a fricking MESS
