Favorite Michigan Retro Apparel

Submitted by Davymac97. on April 15th, 2020 at 2:30 PM

I've long had an eye for Michigan retro gear, specifically anything that has a wolverine on it.  In my opinion, modern day Michigan gear (let's say from 2000 on) isn't nearly as creative as the stuff we saw in the past.  Why is that? Sure we see the wolverbear, but that's about it.

In my free time, sometimes I'll spend an hour or so scavaging the internet for something that catches my eye.  A lot of the time, I come up empty.  However, sometimes I find a gem like the sweatshirt (snarling wolverine in hat) that I received in the mail today !   The tiny copyright at the bottom of it says it was printed in 1990.  The other sweatshirt was passed on to me by my Dad, he guesses he bought it at some point in the 90s.

Interestingly enough, both of these sweatshirts were made by the brand "Jerzees".  From what I can tell, they're still around but don't make college apparel anymore.

What about you guys?  Anyone else have a collection of old M apparel they treasure? Post your favorites!

Both of these were from the mid-90s (95-96 or so)

Don't have it anymore, but I miss my t-shirt that had a football player in the form of a Fisher Price Little People character.

Picture one of these folks in blue, maize M on chest, with a winged helmet. Best shirt ever.

Vintage Fisher Price 909 Rooms

Also miss my Bo-style block M hat with brown suede bill and leather strap. That was a cool hat. Lost it in one of my moves.

I had the 2nd shirt in the OP, so it had to be around in 94ish to 98ish.  Gave it to a girl when she pointed out the wolverine actually looked like a roided up gay squirrel.

Still have the 1998 Rose Bowl/National Champs hat the team wore on the field right after the game. Like to wear it every so often on the golf course. Always good for a comment or two.

Somewhere in my closet I have the 1993 Rose Bowl sweatshirt. Gray with Rose Bowl logo on the front and 1988-1992 consecutive Big 10 champs on the back. Think I wore it once last year.

I have a shirt from the early to mid 90s that is made by Lee Jeans.  The material is incredibly durable and the lettering is sewn on patches instead of silk screen.  I still wear it from time to time but due to it's age I don't wear it much.

It holds a special place in my heart since it's one of the last gifts I got from my grandmother before she passed.  It is a truly unique shirt.  I sometimes wish I could find a case of them in medium hidden in a warehouse. By far my favorite Michigan shirt of all time.

I didn't even know that Lee Jeans made licensed Sports wear.

Edit:  I said Wrangler but meant Lee Jeans.

Anything with the 1948 logo (I used to have a hat with it and it was my favorite hat) or anything with the 1989 basketball Michigan with the huge “M“ and little “ichigan”

No pictures as both disintegrated years ago from repeated wear, but I loved my 1979 MMB Gator Bowl T-shirt and a white Henley with blue sleeves and a picture of Snoopy and a Michigan pennant.  I think the Henley was the first 'Michigan' piece of clothing I ever purchased (also 1979).

Nothing special but I still have a Russel Athletic mesh home Michigan #1 jersey from the late 80's.  Bought it for Greg McMurtry.   Anthony Carter was my favorite player as a boy.

I don't even think Nike was making football jersey back then.
