ESPN FPI Team Efficiencies Update, Wk. 4

Submitted by Ecky Pting on

The updated FPI team efficiency ratings have been posted and Michigan, overall, inches back up to #4 (really a tie for #3). Louisville maintains the #1 spot, while OSU backslips from #2 to #3. The U-M splits are offense, #7 (up from #12); defense, #8 (up 11 spots from #19); and special teams holding at #2.

Interestingly, Colorado remains the highest rated team U-M will have faced before heading to Cow-lumbus the end of November.

Here's a selectively abbreviated synopsis of the ratings, or click the link above to see the whole list &/or sort by category:

Whenever I read an opposing team's blog to get a feel for their side of the game and I see them saying "scUM" or "Bitchigan" I always laugh to myself. Cow-lumbus sure is a new one...

What's old is new... I don't suppose you've heard the expression "Moo U" for MSU either? Both being original NIFA Land Grant universities established largely for the development of agriculture technology, the names at one time were apt.

It's probably time to start a committee to reinstate the word "groovy", who's with me?!

I'd love to believe Wisconsin is slightly worse than Colorado and that Michigan State is somewhere between Penn State and UCF... but I'm thinking both of those games will be tougher than any of the opponents we've had so far.

are that Michigan will likely continue to hold their own or get much better defensively week to week because no offense in the Big Ten offers the same kind of challenge that the team faced against Colorado until they play Indiana and Ohio State. And clearly Indiana is not the same successful up-tempo team that Michigan has faced in recent years.

So, I suspect that defensive efficiencies will almost certainly go higher while offensive efficiencies remain static or drop, because offensively Michigan is not askng its quarterback to win games. They just want him to make plays to keep the chains moving and get the team in striking distance.

Regardless of the competition, how it's perceived on tape and then evaluated and graded both by critics and fans, yesterday was a huge confidence-builder for the OL. And that was what our coach was keenly looking to build as we head into the meat of the schedule. Consider that team goal achieved.

How is oSU offense eff at a 77%?  The Game as of right now would look like a defensive shoot out.  I'd take our D over anyone(mainly bias and love).  Is oSU actually not that great on O?  I remember reading a passing distribution chart of jt barret on here, and how it did not look that great.  So I am guessing when we put them in passing situations we will be able to force a lot pressure and make him look really bad.
