ESPN FPI Team Efficiencies Update
The updated FPI team efficiency ratings have been posted and Michigan, overall is #1. Hashtag Uno. Nice, but not surprising all things considered. IMHO, what's even nicer is MSU being #89 after it's tussle with FCS Furman. Bwaa-ha-ha. Reap what you sow, little bro!

The Buckeyes turned the ball over on a pick six, on downs, and on a punt, with the remaining non-half-ending possessions resulting in TDs.

Michigan turned the ball over on Wilton's first pass (INT), with the remaining non-half-ending possessions resulting in TDs.
Back in the day, my best friend & I used to play Mattel's Electronic Football every day.
We played every day until we got so good that both of us could score on one play while running out the entire half. What had been 70-63 shootouts became 7-7 ties. If you left any time on the clock on your scoring play, you lost 14-7.

Yeah, but there's Colorado up there at #7. Third game of the season may actually be interesting. Guess we'll see how they do against Idaho State next week.

But where is Ohio State they scored 70 yesterday. Seems like that would up the efficiency numbers

I also am surprised that the Buckeyes wouldn't be up there. They were approximately as dominating as we were yesterday.

They must weigh on it - the very definition in fact involves each unit's contribution to scoring margin, so hold a bad team to a field goal and get two pick six plays and your defensive unit is definitely contributing. to that. I would imagine that's why we're second only to Alabama on defense in this metric, who barely let USC get a play in edgewise, if you will.

I'm actually pumped for Colorado.

That, and only receiving 2 kickoffs the entire game. Only received 2 from Florida in the Citrus Bowl as well, but a salty defense will skew things like that.

You have to sort it for 'overall'

That's State's MO. They did that all last season and won the conference. Don't sleep on them. Michigan needs to take that game seriously.

But I don't think anyone's sleeping on sparty.

It is what it is. But, you know what, I don't care who we played yesterday, the outcome would have been dominating. Acting like taking the long view is appropriate, disregards the effort that was offered. And you know what, you know how I know it was a better performance than most want to even acknowledge here, because the coach was impressed by it. And he's my measuring stick.

OP-We've been joking about it for the past 2 weeks ad nauseum, but I don't think that we can be calling Sparty 'Little Bro' until we beat them.
September 4th, 2016 at 3:51 PM ^
The "Little Bro" title is about far more than football and recent performances. Until they stop relating everything they do to us, they will always be Little Brother. And they know that, too.
September 4th, 2016 at 4:04 PM ^
I believe Sparty fits the "Little Bro" perfectly. I know sometimes the little brother does better than the big bro but it doesn't take away from the fact that they are still little bro. Its all about their demeanor and how they act on and off the field that they fit the "Little Bro" mentality perfectly. So no, we can still call them little bro no matter what.

Suit yourself, but as a U-M alum whose older brother attended MSU, I feel especially entitled to sling the term about with reckless abandon.

That is all.

I honestly LOVE the advanced metrics.
But not after week 1 (which still isn't even over!).
~4 weeks of games allows all the various FBS teams to get "adequately connected" to each other in terms of making comparisons. U-M at this point is connected to Hawaii and California.
S&P+ and FEI don't typically get released until after week 4 or week 5. Of course, there's a reason for that. Those metrics don't have quite the "marketing push" that ESPN's FPI has.

Given our #116 ranking in special teams efficiency, I think it is time to start freaking out about this season. FIRE JAY.
September 4th, 2016 at 6:53 PM ^
but Colorado in crushing CSU, is rated 7th in those efficiency rankings. I only mention it because our team will be playing the Buffalos in a couple of weeks.

curious how good Washington will be this year. They'll be 3-0 with big stats when they hit a 3 game stretch of @Arizona, Stanford and @Oregon. They could be a dark horse top 10 team by years end.

We had, what was considered one of the "easiest schedules" in the country, before the season. I really like that Wisconsin and Colorado have added some value, we control everything....PAC 10 big 12 champs will have 2 losses...GoBluePlayoffs16!
