It was actually so Disney could make an extra buck. If you’re going to assign blame, at least direct it to the right place.

Essentially, Disney held all the chips. Either Google/YT pays a higher price for their channels, or YTTV loses the channels, thus losing customers. In losing the customers, those customers (or a decent portion of them at least) flock to Hulu (owned in part by Disney). So Disney is in a win/win situation where they profit the most and you’re placing blame on Google.

The issue now is that Disney benefitted from YT losing customers AND a desperate YT now caved to paying a higher price for Disney’s channels. Google didn’t save a buck here, they’re actually pretty big losers in this situation.

I shopped every streaming option yesterday and wound up on FuboTV. Honestly like it better than YT and I'm keeping it. The fanview on sports was the closer for me.

I’m still glad that we continue to be cable subscribers. Able to watch whatever I want to watch and not worry about the hassles. Paying $250 a month for cable, internet, and home phone.

(Yes, my user name does check out!)

Happy YouTubeTV subscriber here. Good lord, cable subscribers have the shortest memories ever, as if there haven't been been tons of carriage disputes on cable providers as well over the last 25 years. Once again able to to watch whatever I want while paying way less than $250 for TV, internet, and OK boomer who still has a home phone.

Not a Boomer. GenX here.
Need to have a home phone. Have elderly relatives and a few other people who wouldn’t be able to get in touch with me otherwise. When my mother passed away about five years ago, quite a few of her friends and relatives left me lovely messages on the home number.

So…yeah. Fuck you.

Because they didn't have my cell phone number.

We're talking about people born in the '20's and '30's who probably at some point many years ago got my home phone number from my mother or father.

Or maybe they "looked me up"...which is something we used to do when we needed someone's phone number.  More often than not, when you look someone up, you get their home number...not their cell phone number.

There are also organizations to which I belong or to which I donate who might still have my home phone number as my primary contact number...if I began my relationship with them 20-25+ years ago...which is reasonable as I am 54 years old.

So, the problem isn't the dialing or the leaving of a message...it's the possession of or access to a phone number.

And given that my mother was dead at that point, they had no way of contacting her for my cell phone number.

Instead of responding with "OK Boomer," how about you show the intellectual capacity to think beyond your GenZ or Millenial POV and realize that there are people who grew up in a different era?

Man, I'm 40 years old and my parents dropped their land line. My grandmother is still alive and figured out how to call the new number. People have been changing phone numbers and updating their contact info forever. You're showing your intellectual capacity by thinking you need to keep paying for a land line for those things. And by bragging about how you got all those things for "only" $250.

For the life of me I do not understand the people who knee jerk assign blame to Google without informing themselves about the situation and within minutes jump ship.  This is literally the reason Disney keeps getting away with it and our rates keep going up.
