Thanks for the effort, Drevno. Despite all of the OL struggles, particularly in the last year, I'm sure it wasn't due to lack of trying. Just didn't work out. Sometimes a change just had to be made. Best of luck wherever you go next.

Harbaugh, please, PLEASE make your next course of action to promote Warriner to OL coach effective immediately.

My take on Drevno was that he wasn’t a very good coach or recruiter or play caller. There have also been rumors that people didn’t like him, particularly other coaches on the staff. I remember a sideline interview he did at the Spring game a couple of years ago. The reporter mentioned something about the Offense and Coach Fisch and Drenvo had to make it clear “he was the offensive coordinator.” Came across as pretty pathetic and insecure. My guess is he was in over his head and didn’t have the talent at O-Line he inherited at previous stops. He was right to step down. Harbaugh probably didn’t have the heart to fire him because he likely saw the entire situation as his own failure.

LOL @ per Brandon Justice since this has been reported ~20 hours ago. I wish I could make a living trolling message boards and being an "expert".

BTW, other rumors indicate that Pep may be gone as well, but we should wait to see what Brandon Justice decides.

There's a difference between unsourced rumors on message boards, and sourced reporting, which is what Justice said he had. Which is why you have to acknowledge when someone breaks news. Not necessarily because he was first with it, but because if his source turns out to bullshit, the reporter can be held accountable.

About some of the posts above me suddenly getting nostalgic with this guy.

This offense was a train wreck. He was a big part of that.

I'm sure he's a good guy and he will know more than I'll ever know about football. But, whatever he was bringing wasn't meshing with this team, and it's time for something new.

It's a lot of the "moral high ground" people. You know, the same people that called for his head, harshly bashed his recruiting and apology to the players. Suddenly it's "let's not celebrate over a man losing his job. He is a great guy". It's cool to spew vitriol when it seems justified, but in retrospect, people remember that the guy is indeed a person like the rest of us. Not saying I'm any better. Just an observation.

I think, if true, this is more about Drevno not having the experience to coach zone blocking in support of a shift to a different offensive approach from McElwain with Shea at QB.  I would expect Warriner's experience teaching blocking schemes in support of the OSU power-spread and RPO stuff to be better suited for the McElwain approach.  This probably confirms  Harbaugh is 100% certain that Shea will be eligible this year and could have a great 2-year run in a more spread-like offense.  Also, my guess is that Dylan may end up the back-up, rather than Peters, as Dylan is more dual-threat.  Milton fits that mold better as well.

I really liked Drevno and his power run-game approach. Pro-style is just so much part of the Michigan culture it will be interesting to see if Harbaugh can adapt and change Michigan's offensive culture better than RR's attempt.  At least we have Don Brown to keep us in games as this make-over on offense is in yet another transition.

No idea what happened or why his O lines were all of the sudden awful. I know part of it was talent, but that wasn’t the whole story. He had a damn good track record as an O line coach. I would have been ok with him staying and not being OC or involved in the play calling. I am more excited about next year making the assumption that this is one less OC involved and hoping that the play calling and game plans are more coherent. I mean, it can’t get much worse.....right???

Sucks, but had to happen. Once you have to apologize to your players for being a terrible coach, there just isn’t a realistic way you can stay with the team. I sincerely doubt there are any coaches on OSU or Alabama’s staff who have had to apologize to players for poor coaching before.

Yeah, they screwed up from a play calling standpoint, and Urban totally allowed Elliot to bash him in public because he’s a spineless twerp. In the end though, the coaches had developed those players to the point that they could tweak the play selection and become completely dominant again. Michigan has had no such ability over the past few seasons.

I wonder if this will effect the LT potential grad trasnfer from Rice? Maybe we found out he isn't coming and that's why the news now? Although Drevno was his lead recruiter, I owuld say the odds of him coming to AA are lower now.
