you hear is Drake's ACL crying.
January 13th, 2016 at 3:59 PM ^
I thought the problem with ACL's was changing directions, not necessarily moving in a straight line(although I imagine the constant jarring from landing on it after the hurdle may not be the best thing ever).
January 13th, 2016 at 4:48 PM ^
I'm no expert in this, but I know a few things ... if the guy is doing it right the motion over a hurdle should be fluid and not that much more jarring that sprinting.
(Any motion not fluid is wasted motion to a hurdler. Ever see the really good ones? It's freakin' poetry the way they stretch / step / step / step / stretch ... rinse, lather, repeat.)

Sprinting/hurdling in a straight line shouldn't be that risky for his knee ligaments. It's cutting laterally and changing directions where guys get hurt.

I accumulated a huge amount of scare tissue in 2008 through 2014. You think hurdling might help?
January 13th, 2016 at 4:46 PM ^
Just clap a lot and take off your headset Don. That fixed the problem for me and a few other notables....

Tell me again why we're making jokes about our players' knees? Especially when they have eligibility left...

We've met, we've met. But it's not funny if it's a Michigan player.
It's funny if it's MSU or OSU...or anyone else really.
It's also fair to make fun of Michigan graduates, IMO. David Cone jokes anyone?

to get the track scholarship. Multiple people have said that if you play football and another sport, the football scholarship is the one that's exhausted. Someone more eloquent can give a better explanation or link.

It's still there. The NCAA basically creates a hierarchy of sports, with football at the top and then basketball and then a bunch of others. If you're interested, see p. 205 of this manual.

Manual? Turd's got this shit covered.
+1 to you.

A scholarship athlete who plays football always counts toward football.
January 13th, 2016 at 4:03 PM ^
I'm a little surprised that "basketball schools" like Kentucky and Duke don't exploit this rule (as far as I know). Maybe no football coach who's worth a damn would allow it.
January 13th, 2016 at 4:09 PM ^
More like no basketball player worth a damn would agree to it. Duke and Kentucky only use like MAX 9-10 man rotations, and send 3-5 pro every year. They clearly have enough hoops scholarships to continually rotate through tippy top talent to fill their rotation that won't have to be a part of the football team. What halfway decent player would agree to that?
January 13th, 2016 at 4:18 PM ^
I'm probably overestimating the number of guys who want to play both sports, but it's not like basketball schools don't turn away prospects they want because of scholarship limits. They do that all the time, Kentucky included.
January 13th, 2016 at 11:53 PM ^
Duke basketball would benefit by having 16-18 scholarship players. They could give someone a football scholarship, and then never have that player attend even one football practice.
January 13th, 2016 at 3:55 PM ^
Counts against the football team. So if he runs track and is on scholarship, it counts against the football team. This prevents teams from adding a bunch of football "walk-ons" for the football team while having them on track/tennis/baseball/row scholarships.

I would say I can't believe Nick Saban hasn't found a way around that rule - but I guess he's doing Ok exploiting the rules as presently constituted!

I believe that trick is known as "pulling a University of Miami."

Definitely needed. The distance program is solid as MXC won the B1G in November. It's everything else that has to catch up.
Peppers and Chesson would be nice additions, as well.

Distance runners can also compete at cross country and indoor track season. The number of scholarships for male track athletes is limited because the school has to offer an equal number of scholarships to females across all sports. Football is a bunch of people on scholarship, so the place they make up the spots is by limiting track spots to men.

Johnson with a healthy knee is still our best running back till the frosh prove something. And it does look like he'll be splitting time.
"He's had a great career thus far with the football program, and I think it's awesome that football is giving him the opportunity to explore his talents. We are looking forward to working with the football staff with the knowledge that they are coming up on spring ball and coming off a fantastic season with a lot of energy surrounding the program."

Kind of the root of the problem, really.

DeVeon smith is michigan best back hands down in all my years watching michigan I have never seen a better pass blocker are harder runner.. he never fumbles he has over 160+ plus carries and never fumble once. Best believe when next year draft come he will get drafted anywhere between 3-4 round. drake johnson is not going to be a draft pick what dont people understand he played hurt all last year after byu game. kids a beast ...jim hardbaugh made him his starter for a resaon.. hes rated #16 runningback out of 281 runningbacks by the NFLdraft experts for class of 2017NFLdraft google it. I believe in the NFL with a pro line hes going to play many years . also cut the fullback crap!!! hes michigan starter jim will give him 20 carries a game next year. Drake will be lucky to see 7 carries a game

Were you there when Denard won the 60m dash at the UM-OSU Dual Meet?
I was! It was his freshman year and he had played some in Football and many people knew him. I saw him outside warming up and said hi and go blue. He smiled. That was close as I ever got to Denard!
