You sure you're the right…

You sure you're the right guy to call someone out for making a joke about "ethnic-sounding" last names?

Makes me glad that we don't…

Makes me glad that we don't live in the "old days" anymore. This kind of behavior is abusive and should have no place in college athletics.

To be clear, though, Gmail…

To be clear, though, Gmail did use the content of emails for advertising purposes up until about a year ago.

Isn't this like the entire…

Isn't this like the entire reason that we watch televised sports? For the entertainment value of actually watching something happen? Sure, the coaches and refs could verbally communicate all the business of penalties, challenges, etc. But doesn't it add to the entertainment to have visual signals like the ref throwing a flag, making arm signals, etc.?

Piggybacking on your list of…

Piggybacking on your list of female singers with male producers: I just discovered Purity Ring and they are fire. Also, the new album Saved from Now, Now has an amazing aesthetic.

Seen them live a few times,…

Seen them live a few times, and I agree, they are great. I don't think they'd call themselves a "bluegrass" band, though. More like Americana or Appalachia acoustic music.

I read somewhere that cars…

I read somewhere that cars which are given names last longer on average; doubtless a result of the psychology of people who tend to name their vehicles.

My dad had a series of red sedans (early 80s Accord, early 90s Dodge Spirit, mid 00s Altima) which were all named Rosie.

My black Accord is Alfred (as in Bruce Wayne's butler).

My Sienna minivan is Vincent (as in van Gogh).

My 4yr old: "Dad, baby sea…

My 4yr old: "Dad, baby sea turtles have to swim as fast as they can so they don't get eaten by creditors!"

Me: "You mean, like loan sharks?"

4yr old: "Yeah!"

I've always wanted to work…

I've always wanted to work as an inspector in a mirror factory. That's a job I could really see myself doing.

Why is it so hard to teach a cow? Because everything you say goes in one ear and out the udder.

Bogas!

Mumphery hired a lawyer from a firm called "Bogas & Koncius."  No word yet on whether he's retained counsel from "Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe"...

you're kidding, right?

What happens when you lose your laptop bag, or the paper gets lost?

Seconded

KeePass is more technical than LastPass, but offers great flexibility. I like it because I can store my database locally on my machine, whereas with LastPass, your passwords are stored in LastPass cloud servers.

My wife and I have a shared password database that we keep on Dropbox, which syncs across all our devices. As LB noted above, there are KeePass ports or plugins for almost every platform out there. That said, the biggest gap is in iOS support. There are some apps out there for iOS, but they all seem to struggle with keeping an up-to-date copy of a Dropbox database. KeePassTouch for iOS looks promising, though.

I think you meant

I think you meant "rekanize", no?

Stratton

Also formed a band called Groove Spoon. They were fun, too.

Antwaun Stanley (vocals) was a friend of mine in undergrad and is a super-legit dude, and a great singer to boot.

The mortgage guy, Moe's,

The mortgage guy, Moe's, Residence Inn (?), and perhaps a jewely store.

EDIT: M-themed watch store, specifically

Christ Peterson, eh?

You evidently think very highly of the Washington coach.

So...stuff like this?

Got any pics of your exploration to share?

Thanks!

That's what I needed to know!

Ad revenue per page view?

Seth, can you give an idea of how much ad revenue is paid per page view? I currently do use adblock, including on mgoblog, but I'd like to start making recurring contributions to beveled guilt. So, I'm trying to figure out what amount is appropriate to cover the lost ad revenue by my blocking of ads.

Still worth something

Even if only a small portion of users who are currently using adblocking are altruistic enough to use flattr, isn't that still a net positive for the site's bottom line?

I have no clue how successful the flattr project will be as a whole, but on the surface, it seems like a good deal for content creators.

Shut it down

$25-30 million per year to support those teams? That is insane. If I were an EMU student, I would be pretty upset about my tuition money funding the football program. If I were a Rutgers student, I'd be pretty upset about...well, life, I guess.

Loud poop

Normal and hilarious. There's nothing like having your sleeping baby fire one off in the middle of serious conversation, or church, or foreplay.

Small world...

He went to my high school! He was a few years ahead of me, though.

I would never have realized it except for the article excerpt above.

Floor slapper?

Or sore flapper?

Is that something hipsters do?

I though the NYT was universally regarded by Millennials as lame and unreliable. But then again, the topic doesn't come up much in conversation.

Aw man

Busted.

Kidding aside, I actually find it easier to keep up with local news via the local paper. However, living in SEC country, the sports section goes straight in the recycling, as it's just a load of homerism and rose-tinted takes on SEC football news.

Milennial here

Land-line: no. Newspaper subscription: yes.

No

A scholarship athlete who plays football always counts toward football.

Are you always a jerk?

Are you always a jerk?

Not bad if true

I feel like this would be a much higher caliber landing place than many on this site were expecting for Hoke.

wha?

Man, I hope that's a joke.

Change of heart

I agree. I have to admit that my thoughts have shifted to this view over the last few years. Athletics are not core to a university's mission. So if they're costing a buttload of money from a school's budget, well ... they should spend less. Cut some sports or compete at a lower level. Stop flushing money into losing programs and bowl games.

economics

"I think the NCAA should just mandate that the bowls cover travel expenses for the team and a reasonable amount of necessary program people, and outlaw ticket guarantees. Do that and the economics will sort the rest out."

Agreed. So teams that suck and also have tiny fanbases will not get invites, because the bowls won't be able to sell tickets.

Like Furious_George said above, under the current system, the teams playing in lower-level bowls are essentially paying their way to a longer season, TV exposure, and a recruiting pitch.

.

That

was such a fun game to watch. I cried.

Spread punt

But...I thought the spread punt was going to fix all our special teams problems?

pretty sure it's not hip

But the way I've always heard and used the term "woof" is for a thorough failure. For example: "dude, I scored a 250 on my SATs." "don't you get 300 points for putting your name on the paper? woof."

Straight

Baller

Wow, so true!

I'm ashamed to have overlooked that. Thanks for the help!

Not buying it

From OL chart: "Hair below benchmark"

On day that featured Houma, Poggi, and Shallman? Not likely.

thanks for clearing that up

I did not realize Brian essentially handles the whole technical side of the site while also doing several major pieces each week. Dude must be machine.

trade *ageddons for site fixes?

I'd be happy to forego future *ageddon features until such time as some of the long standing site issues are fixed. if all four of you guys redirected the time spent doing these drafts, could we knock out the outdated sidebar and forum browsing issues?

thixotropic

you get my vote for vocab word of the day

When i clicked this thread

I fully expected it to be about a "buy a Coke, get a ticket" promo.

That doesn't really make sense in the context of Maryland basketball, though.

Mobile site

It's nice that yours is mobile responsive, too. That would be a good feature for MGoBlog.

Not a web designer...

But I've seen lots of people commenting that Drupal is outmoded and passe, etc, etc. Is there too much invested in the platform to change to something more flexible? Is it more flexible than commenters give it credit for? If MGoBlog ran a different platform that was Tapatalk-friendly, that would potentially alleviate the Android app issues, as well.

Alternatively

Maybe the site search bar could redirect to the google results page auomatically sorted by date. Google search format:

caporegime

Got my vocab word for the day!

Seconded

Knowing that we could actually look back and quantitatively judge the draftageddon performances would make these features so much more readable.

Per Google

It appears that since the scholarship was awarded by an outside organization that has no ties to the university and requires no information about athletic involvement in order to qualify for the scholarship, then he would not, in fact, count toward the scholarship limit.

http://informedathlete.com/ncaa-rules-on-outside-scholarships/

"Here are some key points about outside aid classified into these three categories:

No relationship to athletics ability:  A scholarship program that requests or encourages an applicant to include their athletic participation or achievements as part of the application process cannot be classified in this category.  The organization that awards the scholarship may be asked to confirm that it did not consider athletics participation or achievements in selecting the athlete who receives the award and must not restrict the athlete’s choice of college institution.

...

Athletics Participation as a Major Criterion.  Scholarships are classified in this category if the athlete’s athletics participation and achievements are the major criteria for awarding the scholarship.  In fact, if applicants or nominees are required to be an athlete in order to be considered for a scholarship, then that scholarship will automatically be considered to be in this category.  Furthermore, if the recipient of a scholarship from this category was recruited by the college they will be attending, the recipient will be considered a “counter” for financial aid purposes and the value of the scholarship will be counted toward team financial aid limits as if it were an athletic scholarship awarded by the college.  Scholarships in this category should be sent to the financial aid office of the college the recipient will be attending so that the aid will be properly tracked for NCAA limits."
