Drake Harris transferring for 5th year

Not a surprise given his injury plagued up and down career.  I hope he lands somewhere he can get the playing time he wants.

Seemed like a quality young man.  His note below:

I want to take this opportunity to first and foremost thank everyone who has believed in me up until this point. My journey has had many bumps in the road and the cards I️ have been dealt were not particularly ideal. However, the end is far from near. -To Coach Hoke, thank you for giving a young boy his dream of playing at The University of Michigan. To Coach Harbaugh, thank you for helping me expound my athletic abilities and mold me into the athlete that I️ am today. To my teammates, friends, family, and fans, you never gave up on me and always allowed me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. If I️t wasn’t for you all, I️ wouldn’t be where I️ am today. Without further notice, I️ will be continuing my football career elsewhere for my 5th year season. I️ will forever cherish my memories in the Big House and I️ will never forget the lessons and qualities that made me a Michigan man. Forever and always, GO BLUE!

I don’t think they got it wrong, the kid just never got healthy. He missed his Senior year, and two years of college with an injury. Fact is, Michigan had a redshirt sophomore who developmentally was a high school senior. He was well behind the curve there. Recruiting sites can’t predict that.

Not only was he smashing records but he also did it against collegiate level DBs from Orchard Lake St Mary’s and also against Cincinnati Moehller who was nationally ranked that year .

I wish we could’ve seen what he could have done this season. It obviously didn’t help to start out at CB but I swear he was still better than half the WRs we rolled out this season yet he didn’t see the field until the OSU game. Not sure what was going on behind the scenes . He’s a good kid and I wish him the best .

But other than Charles Rogers best high school wide receiver ever in state of Michigan.  Watched him single handed beat OLSM, with 2-3 plays in that game that were incredible.  Hope him and Wilton go play together somewhere. Go blue!

I think it is great for the student-athlete, but I wonder how many stay for their Masters degree. A Masters usually takes more than a year if I'm not mistaken. 25 years ago, I needed 30 credits for my Masters. Taking 5 classes a semester and playing football would not have been possible. I assume they only get the scholarship for the year they play. It is still a great benefit, but how many will stick around for another semester or two to finish up at their own expense?

I managed to do a Master's in a year but was also able to count some coursework completed during undergrad towards my graduate degree - so a 30 credit requirement became something like 18 additional credits required. This was all done at Michigan so that made it easier to transfer credits...I doubt it would have happened if I moved to another school.

That being said - there's been some influx of graduate programs in recent years which are meant to be completed in a year - I think many schools have recognized that potential students are unwilling or unable to delay earning income for 2+ years. I imagine that presents some possible options for grad transfers which might not have existed 5-10 years ago.
