Guy Fawkes

He was 3/10 and gets to take the last stupid hook shot? He was abused on defense the last 10 minutes of the game too. Guy has a ton of heart, and is a leader but man is he a detriment on offense.

And on defense now, too

Pritchard had thirteen straight points for Oregon. How can you let a man destroy you off the dribble that many times in a row and not change your approach? X needs Beilein more than anyone realized. Imagine how good DDJ and Zeb would be in his system

Stop putting him in iso situations...he never passes and he's the most limited player we have in terms of scoring. He can break down the defense when going isolation, but he's awful at creating his own shot.

He's a pick and roll guru.

If we were going to go iso...put Teske in with Johns to clean it up because Simpson is going to get it on the rim, he's just only going to make that hook 1 out of 4 tries.

Defensively he was owned in this game.

So frustrating watching a guy who KNEW that he was limited offensively run the offense, pass, control the tempo, etc. Then he hit a few jump shots and he thinks he's better offensively than he is. Go back to understanding your limitations and if you hit some 3's...that's just gravy. But you're not Ja Morant.

Horrible possessions late in the game. I'm so fucking angry...that game was ours to be won and not playing Michigan basketball lost it.

Oh and if Livers is hitting...Z should be feeding him! Why do you go away from him or Wagner? You are not a better shooter OR iso player than EITHER of them. FUCK!

We weren't saying that when we were winning in the Bahamas.

...I'm not here to overreact on the entire program.

But calling out Howard for not putting Teske in if the idea was Z to drive. Or for not trying Livers on Pritchard. That's not an overreaction.

Calling Z out for never passing in iso situations. That's not an overreaction.

Howard is a solid coach and Z is a solid PG...I wouldn't want anyone else in a pick and roll situation. But iso? He was LITERALLY the worst iso player on the floor at the end of the game. Johns is a better ISO player and he was playing down low (look no further than a couple of his drives in the 2nd half).

There are much better ways to express OP's point, but Simpson had a lousy game.

As others have noted, it's frustrating to see him as the playmaker when the shot clock (or game clock, only more so) is under ten seconds.

Simpson's defense seems to get a lot worse when Teske isn't on the floor.

Multiple times in OT he dribbled out the clock only to LEROY JENKINS to the rim without a hope or a prayer. And he got fucking exposed on defense by a guy who will be lucky to play in Europe after college. Michigan wins if he’s not on the court in overtime.

It’s definitely time to hand the reigns over to DDJ. Z just isn’t bringing a lot of value to the court right now. I hope he can turn it around but it seems unlikely given the number of years he’s played college ball.

This seems to be the entire offense and not just Simpson - too sloppy overall and way, way too much wild passes (and many turnovers resulting).  Beilein kept them disciplined on offense and it is slipping.

Simpson chucking bounce passes to people's feet sure was annoying too.

Also, Eli Brooks is not that great again.

Howard should have played Teske more on defense, Johns was not helping to protect the rim when Simpson was getting annihilated in the iso game.

You’ll get badly begged but he really has regressed. Since his sophomore year he has gotten worse in just about every aspect of his game. And unfortunately we are not deep enough to overcome him playing like this. He’s the senior leader and needs to be better. period.

Eli Brooks is not very good. If he plays ten games he plays well three times and awful seven. DDJ has potential but he is not ready to lead yet. This team rests on the progression of Wagner and DDJ. Both have very high potential and we need both of them to reach it. Guys like Teske and Livers are good players but they are what they are at this point.

Since his sophomore year he has gotten worse in just about every aspect of his game.

Overreaction.

As a sophomore Simpson averaged 7.3 points, 3.7 assists and 1.5 turnovers, shot 46.7% overall, 28.6% from 3 and 51.6% from the FT line.

As a senior, Simpson's averaging 12 ppg, 8.6 app and 3.5 TOs, shooting 52.8% overall, 40.0% 3pt and 59.3% FT.

He does have more turnovers but also far more assists.  The bigger issue is that we need him to be more of a go-to guy now than then.

Bad post. Simpson is a very good PG and we've won many big games with him at the helm.

I do, however, disagree with that last shot. We had plenty of shooters on the floor. He was way off this game and it shouldn't have been on his shoulders.

Not sure why you are getting negged because this is one of the more rational posts here. This message board has gone south lately and if you don't post something irrational and negative, you are using "maize colored glasses."

Michigan would have lost NUMEROUS games the past few seasons without Simpson, but let's all freak out over a loss to a top 10 team after making NO shots in the first half.

Yeah this is ridiculous. He played poorly this game and shouldn't have had the final shot, but to say he's become a bad player?

Call me crazy, but 2-2 against top 10 teams before the non-conference is over ain't bad at all. Most would have taken that at the beginning of the season.

I'm no sunshine blower. I was the first to lose my fucking mind at the Wisconsin debacle. This is a different sport and it's still mad early in the season. Chill out, dudes.

I don't know if its Simpson call or Coach Juwan but when it's clear Simpson is being overwhelmed by the size, speed and strength of the other teams PG then either get him some help or switch Livers or Brooks on them. Reminded me of when Cassius took his lunch money last season... and for crying out loud with the shooters Michigan has (Livers,Wagner) can we get a better play at the end of the game than the smallest player on the floor throwing up a 50 ft hook shot for the win!!!

He’s a one arm bandit and although he is fantastic on PnR passing, he thinks he’s the alpha and he has to have ball in his hands. At Illinois, he was saying in the huddle “Get me the ball”. Great, and do what with it? Dribble for 10 seconds around the perimeter?

Awesome competitor. Bulldog mentality and leader, too. But, Last possession nobody helped off and let him go as Oregon guarded the guys who could actually shoot.

It’s still 4 on 5 when he’s out there. However, Brooks had easily his worst game of the year too.

Don't delete this shit...it can be the snowflakes thread.

I haven't been this mad at a loss in SOOOO long. When we lost to Louisville, it reminded me of the lost @IU in 2013. The atmosphere was just too much, but you have to go through it.

This game, on our home floor, with chance after chance...unacceptable. Zavier got owned on the defensive end and played like he thought he was Ja Morant or De'Aaron Fox on the offensive end.

Go back to being Aaron Craft with a better jump shot. A guy who D'ed up all game and knew he was limited offensively. Only Simpson could actually make a kickout 3. But the offense should NEVER run through him. EVER.

Just like when some teams have a Big and never run the offense through him, they just expect him to get put backs and dunks (i.e. all of the Lakers centers this year)...Simpson should be the same way, NO PLAYS FOR HIM. All of his offense should be kick out 3s or fast break layups. That's it.

Simpson is limited.  We've known this for 3 years.

Now, he's going from limited to liability as his lack of athleticism is getting exposed.

Teske is limited.  We've known this for 2 years.

He Is not going to be consistent against good teams/players.

Back to reality.  We should be ranked around 20th.  Oregon would have thumped us on their court and they were still the better team on the road.

I might as well have just watched any of the 3 losses to MSU last year where Simpson got abused by Cassius Winston down the stretch.

This team has no go-to guy and won’t win these games unless someone steps up. Livers and Franz are the two with the best potential but they clearly have a long way to go...
