Did Hoke run off the field without shaking Meyer's hand?

Submitted by Section 1 on

It looked that way on tv.  I hate being confined to watching on tv.  It looked as though Meyer got his Gatorade bath, and then was accosted by tv cameras when he got to midfield, and as he was looking for Hoke.  Then, Meyer saw Mattison (or Mattison was looking for Meyer) and they shook hands.  Hoke is then seen on the telecast running off the field surrounded by what looked like an honor guard from the U-M police force, the Washtenaw County Sheriffs, the Michigan State Police and the Royal Canadian Mounties.

So I was hoping that somebody who was there could explain.

You are to smart to outright criticize Hoke.  But, really, is that what you want to focus on.  I like the hate for the Freep. I share it.  But is it really fair to treat Hoke the same as the freeep treated rich rod.  I thought we were trying to end that sort of perception around here.

Just pointing out how predictable your passive aggressive game is, and if it's fooling anyone, it's only you. I'm just amazed you were able to get out from under the covers today after your team blew it against their rival last night.

You created a question without an easy answer that, as a result of no info available, leans to the negative.

I'm well established as a non Hoke fanboy and can say a) this was a dumb post and b) you're insufferable

It looked like they were trying to find each other, and then Meyer got mobbed by fans rushing the field and Hoke's police escort ushered him out for safety.

The security and I am more concerned about the safety of the Michigan team and staff than Hoke shaking that piece of shit's hand.

Maybe if their fans weren't such mouthbreathers that act like animals, Hoke wouldn't have had to be rushed off the field by 6 cops pushing ohio fans out of the way.

Knowing Hoke, I'm sure he found Meyer at some point after the game. Probably back in the locker rooms.

This is a non-issue. Which makes perfect sense why Section 1 posted it.

was heading to mid-field to find Meyer, but Borges audibled out of it and had him go up the middle of the tunnel instead.  Man, Borges had a really shitty day.

I was in the band and the crowd blocked us in the stadium for what seemed like an hour. Those are not people I would want to be hanging around with. Good play from the police escort. Section 1,  you should go debate this non-issue on ESPN with Stephen A. and Skip. Ridiculous.

Who gives a shit? I wouldn't want to shake that asshole's hand anyway. And after hearing about the whole Justice Hayes incident it's probably better they just got Hoke off the field with the mob of inbreds swarming the field.

Your dead on there; like a great many things brought up here, I have no idea what Stormfront is. I'll take a look.

Edit:  Yup, I was right, I had no idea.  I think I'll drop this internet thingy and go back to reading my science and ancient history books.

What the fuck are you talking about?  "Stormfront"?

Mods, you want to step in on this one?  I ask a straight-up question; the answer to the question is favorable to the general image of Brady Hoke.  (Hoke apparently did not willingly run away from Urban Meyer.)

And the MGoFanboys freak out.  Including, as usual, the unprovoked, uninvited, offtopic attack on Rich Rodriguez of Arizona.  LOL.

You are one of the most annoying posters I've ever come across.

Thanks for your opinions but most come across as bitchy, confrontational, and ill advised.

With so much ammo to actually bitch about Meyer, we don't need to blatantly fabricate evidence.

Meyer was clearly ignoring the reporter shoving a microphone into his face for as long as he could. He was obviously searching the crowd for the Michigan coaching staff, and broke off the interview mid-sentence when he saw Greg Mattison. Both sides showed excellent sportsmanship at the end of the game. No need to break out that tired old trope here.

...you just added a new target at which people can yell (yourself). All the Borges posts were getting boring.

In all seriousness, just shut up and go away.

I think hoke should have tried to shake his hand regadless, nonetheless, I have to say fuck ohio state and their celebration for that 2002 team. it should have been vacated for clarett alone. If michigan has to pretend the fab 5 never existed and usc vacated the reggie bush years, how the hell is the clarett shitshow allowed to stand, especially given what we know about tresell's asshattery? in closing fuck ohio state

From an OSU fan perspective, it is a bit weird that Mattison went to shake Urban's hand while Hoke did not. But I will defer to Hoke's explanation because he's shown nothing In his tenure at UM that would let me believe he lacks sportsmanship. Great game, by the way. Meyer/Hoke battles for years to come!

Timing is everything section 1. Now probably is not the best time to wonder out loud if Hoke breached some coaches ethics code of honor. Maybe tomorrow when cooler heads have prevailed but not now. God in heaven....not now.

I forgot the fragile sensitivities of the MGoBoard.  I'd like to say that I'm sorry, and that I hope this picture of a sad kitten will help smooth things out.

Then again, as the 19th century English clergyman C. H. Spurgeon said, "A lie can be halfway round the world before the truth has got its boots on."    I

In this case, it might actually be better for Brady Hoke, to have cut the legs out from under any myth that he ran away from Urban Meyer at the end of the game out of poor sportsmanship.

You're welcome.

I don’t know why so any people are criticizing this post, and saying that it’s not a good time to post a question like this. This is a great question. My friends and I were actually wondering the same thing. I’m a 26 year old varsity coach and even at my age I know that shaking hands is a HUGE deal. It shows class, respect, and sportsmanship. It is a big deal. If you don’t shake hands not only does it appear that you have no class, but you also look like a baby who can’t handle defeat. With that being said Urban Meyer did the T.V. interview BEFORE he shook hands which is the move of some self-absorbed, arrogant prick. I’m also sure that Coach Hoke didn’t willfully blow Meyer off, and if he did shame on him. But, in my opinion I don’t think Coach Hoke would do that.  I’m also disturbed by the fact so many people can be so critical of others posting legit questions. Every time we lose it seems like half the people on here turn on each other.  We are a family, and we need to stick together. Being a Michigan man means winning and losing with class. We lost. We didn’t play well, we turned it over 4 times, Borges called a terrible game, and we didn’t deserve to win. This means that we need to get after it extra hard in the off season, and stick it to Ohio next year. They weren’t better than us, and they’re the worst 12-0 team I’ve ever seen.  But the truth hurts, and today we got OUTCOACHED and OUTPLAYED. Back to the drawing board, and get ready for bball season because the Capital One Bowl does nothing for me after losing ANOTHER big game against Ohio.  #Michiganforever #Hail

That was one of the quickest (from time of final whistle to post game coach interview) that I've ever seen. They didn't even give the handshake a chance to happen before they were in Meyer's face with a microphone and camera. I've never seen that before. It's easy to blame Meyer for that, but I blame ABC. The fact that they showed Hoke leaving the field well after the interview says that Hoke stuck around plenty long for that interview to happen and it just didn't happen, for whatever reason.

That's exactly the way it appeared to me too.  What is Meyer supposed to do?  Push away a network reporter on live national tv?  "Excuse me, I have to go find Brady Hoke..."  Actually, I'd have been happy if Meyer had done that, and I'd have been completely unsurprised if Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler or Lloyd Carr had done exactly that.  Like you, I blame a pushy and ill-timed ABC interview.

Just checked out that blog for the first time following a link from a post above.  There was not a single post not referencing Brady Hoke's weight.

What is the over/under on fattys posting about Hoke being fat?

That blog fan site makes this blog look like MGOBritannica...

Hoke's response was weak at best. "I work with the D-line before and after the game, it was kind of hard to find anybody". You're kidding me right? Thats the response to why no congratulatory hand shake? Seems Fickel last year found his way through the thorng at the big house to exhibit some sportsmanship. Heck, Mattison found Meyer no problem. If only Meyer could flip him.
