Det. News: Lloyd Carr would hire Jim Harbaugh if it were up to him.
Very out of character for Carr to even comment about this stuff, but here it is. itshappening.gif?

EDIT: Perhaps the "bridge mending" between the two Brian had referenced in an earlier post was successful?

I haven't, but my cousin's roommate from college knew a guy that went to this "thing" with him. He said he saw it and it wasn't pretty.
More importantly he also has confirmed Harbaugh to Michigan.

I would have to say at that point Jim gave us a dose of reality that pretty much everyone chose to ignore until recently because the arrogance was in full force at that time. Nevermind about a month later all that arrogance came crashing down and hasn't been the same since.
I would say the ''I wish he had never played here'' comment was way out of line especially by Hart.

And that was 7 years ago..
I think we can stop passing judgement on his character now. Especially since maybe a handful of people on this board actually know the man and he hasn't said anything even controversial (to my knowledge) in quite some time.
Braylon on the other hand...has a 6 month timer before he says something about Michigan football and/or athletics.
Yet people want to bash Hart over and over and call him arrogant and again, to my knowledge, he hasn't even said anything to warrant those comments.

I resonded to you earlier in one of the many deleted posts, but I'm fairly certain it has something to do with Lloyd passing Harbaugh over for Loeffler back in 2002 and Harbaugh's comments in 2007.
December 4th, 2014 at 10:56 PM ^
Was Lloyd totally opposed to having a successful coaching tree or something?
December 4th, 2014 at 11:05 PM ^
Well this was in 2002 and Harbaugh's only experience was an unpaid gig with Jack at WKU. It was something like one year removed from his pro career. Loeffler was pretty clearly the right choice at the time.

To be honest I'm not sure what being a famous alum has to do with it. The idea is to hire the best coach, not the most popular one. And I would argue that Loeffler's coaching credentials at the time were better than Harbaugh's. By 2002 he'd already strung together a very impressive resume: Griese, Brady and Henson. Furthermore, success as a player does not guarantee success as a coach.

Actually he said a couple weeks ago that there was some fence mending going on in that regard.
And for the last time, it's GREGG. Show some respect for your superiors.
Edit: BOW to Master Gregg.

The longer it takes the more likely it's a pro coach, yes?
December 4th, 2014 at 10:24 PM ^
Well Pro coach or an NCAA coach with a bowl game that is too big to bolt from.

Lloyd can't win with you guys. If he'd said "No comment" I bet you'd be pissed that he didn't offer his support.

It didn't used to be this hard. We used to experience our failures at the hands of worthy opponents and blind referees. For too long we have wallowed in our own gridiron internecine poison.
Please make it stop. Someone who can manage a game clock, inspire a teenager to become a student athlete and be good at football. It's a crazy train.

He would have actually hired him when he had the chance the 1st time,
then none of This would have been necessary.
December 4th, 2014 at 10:43 PM ^
Jim could have left sometime after that though. Carr coached another six seasons after that, and Jim might have gotten impatient. Not sure if he'd have gotten the OC position over DeBord in '06, given that Loeffler didn't.
December 4th, 2014 at 10:41 PM ^
Come on, this is easy to say in hindsight, but Scott Loeffler has a really good record as QB coach. I mean, he's 40 years old and his Wikipedia page includes this line:
Loeffler was the college quarterbacks coach to future NFL Draft picks Tom Brady, Tim Tebow, Brian Griese, Chad Henne, Drew Henson, John Navarre, and Logan Thomas. The players have started over 300 regular-season NFL games and garnered a combined four Super Bowl rings as pros.
Harbaugh probably would have been a better hire, but if we're being fair it's hard to complain about Carr hiring Loeffler.
December 4th, 2014 at 11:26 PM ^
Harbaugh was hired by the Oakland Raiders to be their QB coach.
Show of hands, who sees an NFL position coach job as second choice to the same job in the NCAA?
How did that conversation go? Gee, Coach Carr, I was really hoping to help that young statue you have, John Navarre...guess I'll go slum with Oakland and see if I can help Rich Gannon and the team get to a Super Bowl.

"Everyone has an opinion, and I am no different," Carr said Thursday. "If I had a choice, I would choose Jim Harbaugh. But it will be Jim Hackett's decision, and that is as it should be."
Thats literally all he said when asked his opinion on the coaching search. Maybe you need to turn off your cell/computer if thats how you are going to react when a former coach provides a rationale answer to something he was asked.
December 4th, 2014 at 10:23 PM ^
Well Lloyd, that makes you, me, and the entire fanbase. United in Harbaugh!
December 4th, 2014 at 10:23 PM ^
Doesn't mean anything. Hackett wants harbaugh too, it's whether harbaugh wants to come back to his alma mater or not.

December 4th, 2014 at 10:44 PM ^
I don't think you get why people are happy about this. This was a symbolic gesture. Yeah, it doesn't secure Harbaugh but it lets him and everyone know that he is publicly welcome and that Hackett can pursue him without reservation. It also seems to indicate (considering Carr's ties to Griese and Debord) that they are very much on the Harbaugh trail.
December 4th, 2014 at 10:23 PM ^
I am hoping for Harbaugh. I don't think he's already said no and I don't think Michigan is not a possibility.
That said, what if he and Carr have not "made up." And what if Carr said this publicly as a way to piss Harbaugh off? I only say that because NO ONE else in the department has said something like that and Harbaugh has been quiet on the possibility as well.
I had read, and believed, that the two have buried the hatchet and are on good terms now.
However right when I read these public comments I thought immediately of Kirk Herbie announcing that Les Miles was going to be named the coach.

Who gives a shit whether or not Carr and Harbaugh have made up? Carr doesn't work for Michigan any more. He is irrelevant. What is he says is irrelevant.

Oh. Okay. Thanks for letting me know. I was under the impression the Jim Hackett was running the coaching search. My mistake.

I had this thought also and it makes me a little bit nervous. It is very strange to hear from him about this topic considering how hard he tries to avoid the media.
