Dax Hill news (good)

Submitted by jbibiza on

Sam Webb said today that he is on the cusp of making a Crystal Ball pick for Dax to Michigan.
This may be Najee Harris redux (reDax?) but it brings more than a glimmer of hope to a recruitment that seemed fanciful at best.
Oklahoma was the favorite but their top analyst put in (lukewarm) the CB for us the other day.
It's happening?    There's a chance...  Would be a great get.

I believe he isn't coming because it would be expensive to take an unofficial from Oklahoma to come to the BBQ. He was supposed to go to Oklahoma's BBQ instead because it's closer to his house but it seems he's not doing that either. Dax does have an official visit scheduled for Sept 8th I belive

He unofficially visited Michigan once and has an official still scheduled in September. He unofficially visited Alabama once and also already used his Alabama official. His visit to Oklahoma this weekend was going to be an unofficial. It's pretty clear he has a plan: visit favorite schools once unofficially and then again for an official. I don't see how not making multiple unofficials means Michigan is out of it.

No one is saying he's a Michigan lock. But with Michigan getting the last visit there's reason for optimism.

I think your auto-correct may have just revealed more than you would like about yourself.

To your points about about Sam above, I think you are way off comparing him to Chat sports dude.  Sam is a HUGE cheerleader and always spins and/or creates talking points to put things in the absolute best possible light in Michigan’s favor but he always seems to base this on info from reliable sources.  With Harris, I have no doubt the info from Sam was good that folks from M had gone through the pre-enrollment process with him - even read from a non-Sam source that Najee’s mother had been exploring employment and housing opportunities in the region.  What he didn’t say or didn’t know was that Najee was doing the same with ‘Bama.

i don’t pay for 247 so I can’t comment on whether he is “clickbait-ey” with his posts on that site.

i also really like Steve Lorenz on 247 (miss you on the board Aquaman!) and he is pretty confident that M “is in the top 2” for most of the top rated targets we remain after.  Unfortunately, “If you aren’t first you’re last” in recruiting.  We will see how this goes.

What if she’s an introvert?

Had plans to go to her grandma’s 80th birthday before she started dating you?

Works third shift?

There is a reason make-up sex exists and it is precisely for these circumstances.

I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’...

Would it be out of the realm that a recruit gets added last minute to the BBQ this weekend?  I say that because I’ve read a couple comments from program insiders which have alluded to there being some forthcoming announcements at the BBQ. If Hill isn’t going to OU this weekend maybe his camps trying to sort out last minute travel plans ups to AA.  The players and recruits seem confident Hill is leaning Michigan too.

Also on a side note I’ve been thinking about our staffs pursuit of certain positions which predicted the Herron flip as pursuit of WDE prospects ramped up a couple weeks before the the flip to Stanford.  I’m wondering if in the same vein that the staffs lack of LB targets is any indication of where they believe Crouch is leaning.  I think he plays LB in college, imagine a 235 lb viper who can cover could be a good sell to that prospect as there would be no one else in the country playing that type of spot at that size. Would be nice to have a will who can cover too.

I tend to think along this line as well relative to changes of recruiting targets etc. Here, I believe Michigan must be feeling quite confident on many elite prospect fronts...because the news in these regards has been very slow-and not simply because of the dead period. The current list of 2019 targets coming to the BBQ is very underwhelming...and I read the absence of  the "elite" targets as appropriately giving them space/breathing room. That a lot of new offers are not being made and previously little known recruits being pursued is most certainly good news-as opposed to bad.

This class is already very good but it could quickly turn into a very elite class. If Michigan can reel in Keegan or Ike, Harrison or Karlaftis, Hill, Cine or Sanguinetti, Ford or Johnson and also Crouch this would certainly be an "Oh My!!!" class.

The Najee Harris recruitment is an analogy of Michigan football the last three years. Michigan is so close in nearly every aspect but something comes up at the last second to pull it away. (Think of every game we lost last year minus PSU, OSU’16 game, MSU’15 game, etc...)

Culture and stability take time to build. Meanwhile, fans and analysts think Michigan will always be 8th or our division or some shit because they don’t understand the wreck of a program this was three years ago (plus they don’t watch the games). We shouldn’t expect the college football landscape to remain static (remember “Clemsoning”?). We shouldn’t expect Michigan to remain so close to being a great team but never following through. Things will eventually bounce our way.
