I used to think that anybody who was literate would automatically be able to write simple, declarative sentences that communicated ideas or information in a clear, accurate, and unambiguous way. It's so damn easy to do so, so everybody can, right?

MGoBlog is a daily lesson that I was completely wrong.

I also used to think that anybody who was technically literate would automatically be able to write website code that enabled website users to easily edit what they write after posting. It's so damn easy to do so because so many websites actually enable users to do exactly that. So everybody can, right?

But the problem was that the readers assumed the title was syntactically incorrect.

”Dorian Green-Warren cornerback to Michigan” is incorrect.

”Dorian Green-Warren crystal ball to Michigan” is correct.

I’ll admit I had to do a double-take, but all the posters who are complaining make it sound like he wrote “CB Dorian Green-Warren to Michigan.”

This is more of a failure to read correctly than a failure on the OP’s part to write. I don’t know why everyone is being a dick about it. It seems like criticizing subpar posts turns into a feeding frenzy at MGoBlog with everyone trying to one-up each other with the most scathing criticism of the OP. That type of transparent sensitivity is just begging for trolls to make a home here.

The OP titled this as "Dorian Green-Warren CB to Michigan".

DGW is a cornerback.  The OP is getting rightly blasted for his poor choice of phrasing in the title, not for the information he provided.  I think we can agree that its difficult to impart understanding when you do not clearly communicate your message.

"..subpar posts turns into a feeding frenzy at MGoBlog..."

Now this I agree with!

I understand the cornerback/crystal ball confusion, but what I was saying was that given the basic rules of English grammar, it was obvious he meant “crystal ball” and not “cornerback.”

In English, like most languages, word order matters and determines the function on a word. The meaning of the OP’s sentence is clear when one assumes the phrase is grammatically correct. Hence the fault lies in the readers for either not understanding English grammar or for assuming the phrase was grammatically incorrect.

I was one of the many who took "CB" as cornerback, not "crystal ball." Terrible title. Still pretty good news.

There are two things I wonder about with this post.

  1. Why can't the web designers modify mgoblog so that you can edit and modify original posts?
  2. Was the OP clueless in this blunder, or was it a high level click bait troll action?

Why is a crystal ball in our favor post worthy?

Or are these the same people that make posts about our rivals being down in the early part of a game, and then bragging about it here like it matters - only for that hated team to come back in their own game. It is embarrassing.

According to your link, he has more towards USC than UM.
