Meyer would be better in every way. Get that fool out of the college football scene for good - way too dirty for the college game.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:04 PM ^
I don't want to see Harbaugh go (nor do I think he will), but Jim is a proven NFL coach. I could understand if you said Meyer was a better candidate for USC or some other college program, but Harbaugh is a slam-dunk NFL hire. He spent a large part of his life in that league and he knows how to make things work. Meyer, on the other hand, has spent a large portion of his life involved in college football and that is his expertise.
That's not to say that Meyer can't be successful in the NFL, but we also don't know if he'll get Peter Principled.
The biggest thing holding Harbaugh back at Michigan is his desire to turn the program into Stanford (which we should have seen coming given his comments while at Stanford). I don't know how anyone can look at what he did with the 49ers and doubt his ability to coach.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:11 PM ^
These are all good points. My main point is: do all of us a favor and get dirty urban out of college. To clarify, I agree with you that Harbaugh would be a better nfl coaching hire - he has already succeeded at the highest level and commands the respect of players at all levels of the game. Meyer is an unknown - brilliant recruiter and football mind, but could he succeed in the NFL? It remains to be seen. Perhaps he would be a mediocre joke like Saban was. It is hard to compete in a league with a salary cap. Meyer and Saban have had the easiest imaginable situation where you have the two most talented rosters in football every year, guaranteed. And, quite literally, there is no salary cap. In fact, you are two of only a handful of schools that are ‘allowed’ to pay players at all.
My dream scenario:
dirty liar goes to Dallas... and fails miserably
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:25 PM ^
I also hope he goes to Dallas and fails miserably. I hate the Cowboys and I hate Meyer so it would be wonderful to see them fail together.
January 3rd, 2020 at 12:07 AM ^
Nah let him go 9-7/10-6 every year and appease Cowboy Nation for a while and keep his ass off the college sidelines or on my screen
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:50 AM ^
But not before he hired Brown as his DC, Gattis as his OC, and a few more positional coaches on the Michigan staff. One more dong punch on his way out.
January 3rd, 2020 at 6:27 PM ^
I hope Urban goes to Dallas and fails so miserably, he and Ezekiel Elliot start kicking each other in the balls on the sidelines during a Monday night game.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:45 PM ^
By Harbaugh you mean Meyer and Reilly right?
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:56 PM ^
I was going to say I haven't heard Harbaugh's name. Would be nice though!
January 3rd, 2020 at 9:06 AM ^
I'm a Cowboys fan and these are the two names mentioned the most, not once have I heard Harbaugh's name brought up. Also, Josh McDaniels early on, but I believe he's going somewhere else now.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:46 PM ^
Jones would be smarter to try getting Meyer to be honest...
January 3rd, 2020 at 6:09 AM ^
I'm not sure that anyone can get Meyer to be honest... it's not part of his personality.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:54 PM ^
Oh maybe, and I’m just spitballing here, because Meyer is a better coach than Harbaugh.
January 3rd, 2020 at 12:04 AM ^
I suppose you also think that Doug Pederson is a better coach than Andy Reid. Or that Eli Manning was just as good of a QB as Peyton.
Using accomplishments to predict future success only works when context is considered. We know Meyer can recruit a lot better than Harbaugh but that doesn't really matter in the NFL.
January 3rd, 2020 at 1:14 AM ^
Hahaha. . .how many five stars did Meyer lure to Bowling Green and Utah?
January 3rd, 2020 at 7:30 AM ^
I’d say you measure him against other five star teams. His record is so so. And Utah and BG success does not necessitate five stars. Terrible argument to infer so.
January 3rd, 2020 at 4:52 AM ^
Urban Meyer has been a phenomenally successful coach at 4 different schools of all levels. He is also 4-0 vs Harbaugh, with a 5th win coming with Ryan Day using all of Meyer’s players. By any metric, he is a great coach who has far exceeded Harbaugh at the level they have both coached at.
Does this automatically mean he’s a lock to be great in the NFL? Not by a long shot. But it certainly does weigh in his favor. And let’s not get carried away with JH’s record with the 49ers. He had a great 3 year run with 1 SB runner up season, but his 4th season he was 8-8 and was essentially fired. Not exactly Bill Belichick like stuff there.
I hate Meyer and think he’s dirt, but denying his success and getting all salty and offended at the fact he’s a better coach than JH is only highlights the head up our ass ignorance/arrogance we’re known for.
January 3rd, 2020 at 5:34 AM ^
It would be a fun experiment to see how the J Jones/Meyer relationship plays out.
Meyer coming from a background where the AD stuck his head in the sand while a bunch of shady shit went down to having your boss meddle in every single decision you make is quite different. Could be fun?!
January 3rd, 2020 at 9:03 AM ^
Dumb take. Even harbaugh’s worst NFL year would be a great year for a Lions fan. 8-8 isn’t a failure year when you’ve done well the three years prior. Some injuries causes 1-2 more losses.
January 3rd, 2020 at 4:14 PM ^
Wait. Is Doug Pederson not a better coach than Reid? Dude made the playoffs with you playing WR and RB and won the Super Bowl with a backup.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:56 AM ^
College and NFL coaching are very VERY different things, apples to apples comparisons don't apply. See: Nick Saban or Charlie Weis for good examples.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:48 PM ^
If harbaugh moved to the Cowboys, it would create even more attention, which JJ wants.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:56 PM ^
Yes, but no. Jones wants the hype and talk to be about Jerry, not Jimmy, or Jimmy, or Bill, or Barry. Garrett he was actually good with because, well, Garrett is about as vanilla as they come.
Anyway, apparently Jerry has already mentioned to Harbaugh that there is plenty of whole milk and beef in North Texas.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:09 PM ^
Which is why Barry Switzer was the perfect coach. He didn’t GAF about the limelight at Dallas. He was just happy as hell to have Jones write him a big check while he could just stick it in cruise control and coach a team that had already won 2 Super Bowls and still had their best players mostly still in their primes.
Switzer only ran into problems when he no longer had the team Jimmy Johnson had built around him.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:48 PM ^
Another worthless post...
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:50 PM ^
neither original nor funny.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:51 PM ^
Where are all the Harbaugh Haters saying Michigan should Hire Garrett!
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:59 PM ^
Garrett would bring to Michigan the same mediocrity we have now but with a coach who could speak in complete sentences.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:18 PM ^
Same mediocrity but with a dash of Brady Hoke clap.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:27 PM ^
Says the the man with the intellect of a turnip.
January 3rd, 2020 at 12:37 AM ^
Great rebuttals
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:51 PM ^
Talk radio in Dallas has nixed that asking rhetorically, “What has he done at Michigan that would inspire confidence here?”
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:02 PM ^
Pretty much agree. His stock has gone down.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:52 PM ^
There have been no rumors for Harbaugh to any openings this year. The success of Greg Roman has exposed how he won in the NFL. Nobody wants him.
Meyer on the other hand has been rumored for a couple jobs, especially the Cowboys.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:57 PM ^
Yeah...Harbaugh rode Greg Roman’s coattails in the NFL. Now, that’s original.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:09 PM ^
Yeah, apparently Roman is such a good OC he made the 49ers defense into one of the best in the league.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:18 PM ^
Roman's getting interviews. Harbaugh isn't.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:26 PM ^
Harbaugh's not looking for a new job.
January 3rd, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
Yeah... he realizes that his stock has gone down and now he's stuck at Michigan... and Michigan realizes that Harbaugh wasn't the messiah he was thought to be... and we're stuck with him. Match made in hell...
"Average at Best"
January 3rd, 2020 at 12:13 PM ^
Eye roll
January 3rd, 2020 at 12:34 PM ^
Roman is getting interviews because of one name, Lamar Jackson. Roman has been in plenty of places before, why wasn't he getting interviews then?? Hmmm
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:29 PM ^
The success of Greg Roman has exposed how he won in the NFL.
Ah, but he chose Greg Roman, not vice versa. So you're right, it exposes why he won in the NFL--because he made a right choice.
Next.

TROLL ALERT: this guy is the same OP who started the James Hudson post, Skegemogpoint.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:52 PM ^
Jerry Jones and Jim Harbaugh trying to coexist next to each other would be a dumpster fire of epic proportions.
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:53 PM ^
If I were Harbaugh, that job would look very promising. I hope we keep our coach, but I also want him to succeed.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:00 PM ^
How do you figure that? Jones, as usual, would micromanage the shit out of everything and, if the team ended up having success, Jones would immediately throw a shit fit and scream that everyone is focusing too much on Harbaugh and whine like a little baby about how he’s not getting enough credit for everything.
Knowing the kind of personality JH is, do you really think he’d enjoy working in that kind of environment?
January 2nd, 2020 at 10:56 PM ^
I thought for sure Dallas would announce that they were going to meet with Garret again on Friday. Then on Monday... Then...
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:00 PM ^
Jerry Jones wants someone he can control, which is why Jimmy Johnson and bill Parcells left...more or less...and Garrett stayed far passed his expiration date...considering the problems Harbaugh had in SF, this wouldn't be even a good rumor.
January 2nd, 2020 at 11:06 PM ^
That's only the rumor on this board. Everyone already knows the next cowboy's coach will be Urban Meyer. Jerry Jones wants his star running back to be happy so he will hire old Urbs. Dallas will make as many moves as possible to acquire all the Ohio State players they can and be the best damn team in the land. They'll be know as the Dallas Cowboys Buckeyes.
