Dallas Cowboys Fire Garret - Let rumors of Harbaugh to Cowboys begin!

Can’t wait for all the rumors to start flying about Harbaugh heading to the pros.

I don't want to see Harbaugh go (nor do I think he will), but Jim is a proven NFL coach. I could understand if you said Meyer was a better candidate for USC or some other college program, but Harbaugh is a slam-dunk NFL hire. He spent a large part of his life in that league and he knows how to make things work. Meyer, on the other hand, has spent a large portion of his life involved in college football and that is his expertise.

That's not to say that Meyer can't be successful in the NFL, but we also don't know if he'll get Peter Principled.

The biggest thing holding Harbaugh back at Michigan is his desire to turn the program into Stanford (which we should have seen coming given his comments while at Stanford). I don't know how anyone can look at what he did with the 49ers and doubt his ability to coach.

These are all good points. My main point is: do all of us a favor and get dirty urban out of college. To clarify, I agree with you that Harbaugh would be a better nfl coaching hire - he has already succeeded at the highest level and commands the respect of players at all levels of the game. Meyer is an unknown - brilliant recruiter and football mind, but could he succeed in the NFL?  It remains to be seen. Perhaps he would be a mediocre joke like Saban was. It is hard to compete in a league with a salary cap. Meyer and Saban have had the easiest imaginable situation where you have the two most talented rosters in football every year, guaranteed. And, quite literally, there is no salary cap. In fact, you are two of only a handful of schools that are ‘allowed’ to pay players at all.

My dream scenario:

dirty liar goes to Dallas... and fails miserably

I suppose you also think that Doug Pederson is a better coach than Andy Reid. Or that Eli Manning was just as good of a QB as Peyton.

Using accomplishments to predict future success only works when context is considered. We know Meyer can recruit a lot better than Harbaugh but that doesn't really matter in the NFL.

Urban Meyer has been a phenomenally successful coach at 4 different schools of all levels. He is also 4-0 vs Harbaugh, with a 5th win coming with Ryan Day using all of Meyer’s players. By any metric, he is a great coach who has far exceeded Harbaugh at the level they have both coached at.

Does this automatically mean he’s a lock to be great in the NFL? Not by a long shot. But it certainly does weigh in his favor. And let’s not get carried away with JH’s record with the 49ers. He had a great 3 year run with 1 SB runner up season, but his 4th season he was 8-8 and was essentially fired. Not exactly Bill Belichick like stuff there.

I hate Meyer and think he’s dirt, but denying his success and getting all salty and offended at the fact he’s a better coach than JH is only highlights the head up our ass ignorance/arrogance we’re known for.

It would be a fun experiment to see how the J Jones/Meyer relationship plays out.

Meyer coming from a background where the AD stuck his head in the sand while a bunch of shady shit went down to having your boss meddle in every single decision you make is quite different. Could be fun?!

Yes, but no.  Jones wants the hype and talk to be about Jerry, not Jimmy, or Jimmy, or Bill, or Barry.  Garrett he was actually good with because, well, Garrett is about as vanilla as they come.

Anyway, apparently Jerry has already mentioned to Harbaugh that there is plenty of whole milk and beef in North Texas.

Which is why Barry Switzer was the perfect coach. He didn’t GAF about the limelight at Dallas. He was just happy as hell to have Jones write him a big check while he could just stick it in cruise control and coach a team that had already won 2 Super Bowls and still had their best players mostly still in their primes.
Switzer only ran into problems when he no longer had the team Jimmy Johnson had built around him.

There have been no rumors for Harbaugh to any openings this year.  The success of Greg Roman has exposed how he won in the NFL.  Nobody wants him.

Meyer on the other hand has been rumored for a couple jobs, especially the Cowboys.

Jerry Jones and Jim Harbaugh trying to coexist next to each other would be a dumpster fire of epic proportions.

How do you figure that? Jones, as usual, would micromanage the shit out of everything and, if the team ended up having success, Jones would immediately throw a shit fit and scream that everyone is focusing too much on Harbaugh and whine like a little baby about how he’s not getting enough credit for everything.
Knowing the kind of personality JH is, do you really think he’d enjoy working in that kind of environment?

Jerry Jones wants someone he can control, which is why Jimmy Johnson and bill Parcells left...more or less...and Garrett stayed far passed his expiration date...considering the problems Harbaugh had in SF, this wouldn't be even a good rumor.

That's only the rumor on this board.  Everyone already knows the next cowboy's coach will be Urban Meyer.  Jerry Jones wants his star running back to be happy so he will hire old Urbs.  Dallas will make as many moves as possible to acquire all the Ohio State players they can and be the best damn team in the land.  They'll be know as the Dallas Cowboys Buckeyes.
