Could/should Flores law suit stop Vikings from hiring Harbaugh?

Title says it all.

Harbaugh should go. His heart clearly isn’t here, and he’s been decent but not great every year except this one. His departure would not be the loss people fear.

No way in hell you could possibly know this. His departure at this point in time leaves Michigan with very few options. People who want Harbaugh gone should be careful what they wish for. I could easily see Michigan going to to RR /Hoke type level.

I for one hope Harbaugh doesn’t get the job or has a change of heart and comes back to continue what was started.

Guess I give my fellow Michigan grads too much intellectual credit.
The current business and civil environment in regards to race is significantly sensitive at the moment ( past 18 months).
You just have a coach put forth a law suit against not just the dolphins but insinuate minority hiring is a scam in the nfl and you don’t think that at least for one second someone in the executive circle questions what the hiring of Jim Harbaugh might look like?
Has nothing to do with whether Flores is correct or questioning a Harbaugh hiring is correct. Today’s environment along with the litigious nature of our society at the moment means thinking about it is at least prudent.

For those with iqs above 100 the title says it all.

I don’t know why people are dismissing this. 100% this could give the Vikings pause. Their owners, by all accounts, don’t want drama or scrutiny, which a Harbaugh hire would absolutely bring after this.

You are correct. However, this actually further muddies the water. Hiring a clearly qualified white Jim Harbaugh would be a great cover for beliefs and practices that are in fact discriminatory. That Jim Harbaugh became a late candidate does caste a wary eye on this specific matter. It's kinda as the saying goes "Just because you're not paranoid does not mean they are not out to get you".

We are who we are.

After reading the Complaint in the Flores lawsuit, it is possible that MN does not offer the job to Harbaugh and, instead, offers it to the candidate they interviewed for 9-hours today.

The owners might conclude that Harbaugh is simply not worth it especially in a media environment that will not look kindly on the hiring of yet another white coach a day after a class action for racial discrimination was filed.

Regardless of whether he gets an offer, however, Harbaugh is done here.  If he comes back without an offer in hand from MN, he needs to be shown the door as soon as possible. We can't have a coach who would literally take any NFL offer that comes his way.

Never thought I would say this about Harbaugh but he is just as full of shit as anyone else.  Disappointed but I guess not ultimately surprised.

The only thing I can do is support whoever is named the head coach over the next few weeks.

If it doesn't stop them from hiring Harbaugh, I do wonder if it increases the chances Harbaugh tries to take Gattis with him. Media outlets like ESPN are already pumping out stories hammering the NFL for not hiring black assistant coaches.

This, taking Gattis with him, is not a problem. There will be a most stellar list of HCs and OCs lining up for the opportunity to coach JJ and company. I would stay in house with the HC and as many of the current assistants as possible-because they were the difference-makers last year...it was not Jim Harbaugh-and I believe this is indelibly clear.

At this time there is no reason for panic.

Nothing says the Rooney rule is a sham more so than interviewing a minority candidate for 9 hours while it was being reported that a deal is already in place to hire Harbaugh. So if it comes to light that this indeed was the case it is a very bad look for the Vikings. That said I'm with a lot of others that suggest regardless of what happens Harbaugh should not be able to set foot back in the athletic office other than to pick up his things. He has literally ruined any chance of ever being able to recruit at Michigan again.

The Rooney Rule, although well intentioned, is a joke.  An owner is going to hire who he chooses to hire.  Forcing an employer to interview a quota of minority candidates isn't going to change that.

If the first candidate interviewed is exactly what the franchise is looking for, the owner has to schedule interviews with candidates he has no intention of hiring, that's more a slap in the face than an opportunity, IMO.

This is really dumb. There's news from the college side and news from the NFL side, you're stuck in the former.

Every account from the league was Ryans being the #1 choice, who already had his first interview. Graham already had his first, Raheem Morris has had 2, and Todd Bowles had 1. Are all of those smoke to cover for the Rooney Rule? Did they get so paranoid about optics from Rooney that they held a fake 9 hour interview yesterday, making it the 5th or 6th minority interview they've had for HC?

Or perhaps are you connecting 2 stories that do not connect?

He wants to be in the NFL and that's it.  Also, the fact that the NFL keeps rapists, racists, degenerate gamblers, drug users, etc. on various payrolls leads me to believe they don't much care about this lawsuit in the long term.

The situation will certainly make the Vikings' lawyers jumpy.  They might hold things up while they try to paper up their trail that led to the offer to Jim.

But, assuming the Vikes did everything they were required, it should not make a difference.

Hey to each there own...I think what he will probably prove is that it is much harder to get a head job in the NFL if back.  I think unfortunately that is true in many other professions, but he did get one of those jobs and so did Leslie Frazier, Todd Bowles, and several others the past 10 years.  I am surprised he tried to settle this with a lawsuit.  Good luck to him by the way, the NFL is a good old boys club, and I wish him the best, I just don't see him winning, and those good old boys have long memories,

I thought the Rooney rule was intended to give more exposure to black candidates and more opportunities to be interviewed.  Not many coaches are hired without an interview. The candidate then has a chance to impress and possibly receive an offer that would not otherwise been possible. I think both teams and candidates for years have known that a given minority candidate was being interviewed largely or even completely just to satisfy the rule. That doesn’t mean it has zero value though.  The candidate maybe gets valuable experience in the process an will become better and better at interviewing.  A GM who had someone else already in mind may be impressed enough if not change the decision, share the positive experience with another GM, or even a college AD.

if this isn’t what it’s about, then you may as well say we are going to use a quota system for hires.
