Should have never ran him out as coach. Fucked us for a century

Meh. Carr might’ve been the best college football coach in the country from November 23rd, 1996 through November 13th, 2004, but after that? I don’t know what curse was put on Michigan Football on that latter date against Northwestern but Lloyd was never really the same after that day and neither has Michigan football. Maybe on November 13th this year someone who lives in Chicagoland can go to Evanston and try some exorcism.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:36 PM ^
How dare you speak well of someone who won a bunch of big games at Michigan...or something.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:39 PM ^
Carr hung around too long, but excepting for back 1/4th of his run he was certainly better. And he wasn’t O’fer on The Game.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
Well...2004- he was.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:39 PM ^
Carr killed the program and anyone with half a brain knows this.
Gave up Ohio as a recruiting focus in favor of east coast letting Tressel have his way. Having "four year starters" instead of "three and drafted" studs, losing the week Bo died, Appy, undermining his replacement.
Glad he was able to parlay Moeller's recruiting into a championship and it sucks Harbaugh can't erase his mistakes, but you'll forever be an idiot :)
September 21st, 2019 at 9:55 PM ^
I am continually amazed people will find ways to blame Carr for the worst coach and era in Michigan history. Carr was a winner, full stop. The Rodriguez hire was a program-killing mistake.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:13 PM ^
OK, even if we discount any negative influence Carr had on the success of RR, you at least have to admit it was the conservative play calling at the end of the Carr era that led to the radical decision to bring in RR's offense.
Either way have your team ready to win the week Bo dies.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:00 PM ^
I'm also amazed people can still cling to this Carr-was-mean-to-Rich-Rod narrative after RR was conclusively shown to be a total prick.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:28 PM ^
If I remember correctly, Carr's lack of support to Rich stemmed from RR being a dick and trashing the state of the program when he rolled in to town. Carr took it personal as any of us would. I don't think that I heard Carr was mean to him, just pulled all support and left him to do it in his own. And in an environment as political as Michigan football, you want the backing of the old guard.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:00 PM ^
The 2003 Michigan team beat #15 Notre Dame, @#17 Minnesota, #9 Michigan State snd #4 ohio State. Were those Moeller recruits? Shut up Ms Harbaugh
September 21st, 2019 at 10:16 PM ^
I already said my son is a failure at cleaning up the mess Lloyd left, I've sent him to bed with no dessert.
O wait, do you mean the same 2003 when they lost on the road in game FOUR to the #22 ranked team, as opposed to this year losing in game THREE on the road against the #13 team? And Harbaugh could potentially beat the #18, #13, #7, #6, plus B1G west champ, plus 1 or 2 ranked opponents in the postseason.
Go ahead give up now, you ninnie.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:49 PM ^
Lol. Let’s see this team make it to a BCS bowl game.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:44 PM ^
Lol. That’s right the dude who won a national title, beat the heisman trophy winner in his last season. And the guy who’s defensive recruits single handedly beat Wisconsin in spite of Rich Rods shit coaching ruined the program. How many national championships did Bo win? How many times has Harbaugh beaten OSU? How many times has he won as an underdog? People dogging Carr are stupid including Brian Cook. Carr’s years were great. We weren’t Alabama of today but no one was back then.
September 22nd, 2019 at 2:44 AM ^
USC basically was
September 21st, 2019 at 9:39 PM ^
Yes, but you forget that according to the board Carr is responsible for Rich Rod sucking at Michigan, and at Arizona, and it's also Carr's fault that Hoke was 11-2 in his first year at Michigan.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
I remember the Carr years and he wasn't the fan favorite that he seems to be now.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:45 PM ^
I think there were a lot of people who didn't like him at the time and a lot of people who did like him at the time and I think all of those people's opinions are largely unchanged so I totally disagree with what I am taking as your point.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:30 PM ^
I think that most thought of him as a patriarch of sorts, but that he was stuck in his ways and refused to innovate, played not to lose after we had leads in the 2nd half (Nebraska in the bowl game anyone?), and our teams regularly played up or down to the competition.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
Dude was a good coach. Not bad idea to show him some love now and then.
But maybe not like this.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
Wonder how many dickheads who post stuff like this booed and wanted him gone in 2005 and 2007?
September 21st, 2019 at 9:42 PM ^
Lloyd Carr was not appreciated in his time. When he took over, there were many who were worried about his time as a DC. Then there were concerns that he was too bland, vanilla and predictable.
Yet, with time, it is clear that he was a very good coach.
The switch to Rich Rod was jarring and we paid for that and are still paying.
But let's see how this all plays out. By the way, Bo's first year (1969), the team ended up 8-3 with loses to Missouri of the still existent Big 8, MSU (12-23) and to USC in the Rose Bowl.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:43 PM ^
And guys like Brian Cook wanted that old fuddy duddy out for a guy like Rich Rod who had that exciting offense.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
I did too. Just being honest. Boy was I wrong.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:43 PM ^
0-1 vs. Appalachian State
September 21st, 2019 at 11:52 PM ^
Won a national title
September 21st, 2019 at 9:47 PM ^
It's pretty irrelevant. Carr didn't build up a successor, dude had no coaching tree whatsoever. So when he finally dipped, the next step was always going to be a start over. Moeller and Carr both could work on what Bo built, but after Carr that was always going to be done.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:48 PM ^
Yah. And when he retired he didn't pass the baton and acknowledge Rick Rod and here we are. The hell with Carr.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:49 PM ^
Yeah but how many field trips did he take to Europe though?
He's probably never even met the Pope.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:53 PM ^
I wish Lloyd could have stayed longer and we had a smoother transition to a better successor. What a shitshow the last dozen years have been!
September 21st, 2019 at 9:57 PM ^
Carr's teams shit the bed more often than they should have, but they never looked like this. There were times they couldn't move the ball for shit, but they weren't completely unorganized or plagued by the same errors week after week.
September 21st, 2019 at 9:58 PM ^
2007 Oregon, lost 39-7 at home.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:05 PM ^
1998 Syracuse we were off of a national championship and were down 38-7 before garbage time made it 38-28.
How quickly we forget.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:20 PM ^
I realize he had some terrible games such as Syracuse 98, Iowa 02, Oregon 07 but it wasn't a common theme like it is now.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:03 PM ^
Bowl game against tennesee, lost 45-17
September 21st, 2019 at 10:07 PM ^
Love Lloyd but I'll add to the list:
Iowa at home in 2002. Forgot the score, don't care to look it up. (I think I have the right year.)
September 21st, 2019 at 10:09 PM ^
This is not a Lloyd Carr slurp fest. Im not a Harbaugh slappy.
This is to show that Michigan is NOT a historically mediocre program. We can expect better.
We arent rich prissy boosters who only care about image and profit, nor neck beard basement dwellers like wolverine devotee. We are working class men and women who pay alot to see Michigan do well in athletics.
Expect more. Please. Dont let this be the end of the program i love.

It's funny because it's true.

Judging by your posting history you sound like you're from Downriver.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:13 PM ^
Always boggles the mind the hate Carr gets on this blog. But I guess it makes sense given the purveyors here are still talking up Dennis Norfleet.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
Plus, Lloyd wasn’t total goofball who ate his own boogers.
September 21st, 2019 at 10:22 PM ^
Cool, did he get 20 years younger and is he looking for a job?
September 21st, 2019 at 10:27 PM ^
Hindsight being 20/20, the recent board post about "Carr v Harbaugh who's better" is looking even more ridiculous right now.
And it kind've kicks us while we're down, but OP post and the facts really back that answer up even more.
Carr>

If UM football wins/losses affects you like this... Get a life! So much more that matters. Don’t let things you can’t control affect you. Why would you?
September 21st, 2019 at 10:52 PM ^
How about we focus on a coach that can actually help us right now:
"On the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing."
September 21st, 2019 at 11:56 PM ^
Lost to App State. Shit was bad.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:43 AM ^
Beat OSU and ranked teams on the road. The only bad shit is Harbaugh’s performance in those categories.
September 22nd, 2019 at 1:05 AM ^
Carr beat Urban Meyer in a bowl game. There's only one other coach that can say that. And Carr did it with the team that lost to App state.
