Cleveland Cavaliers Hate John Beilein

According to an article in The Athletic, Cavs players are unhappy with Beilein and are starting to tune him out. They have "drowned out his voice" and do not like his college style of coaching. I can't say I'm surprised, but this is still sad to hear.

There are some damning quotes from players in this article as well.

“Our assistants are definitely more prepared for the NBA.”

"For instance, all of the team’s screens, cuts, and pivots are named after wild animals. A curl is a “polar bear” in Beilein’s system. 'You don’t go pro to do that kind of thing,”' one league source said."

"It’s already gotten to the point where players are looking past Beilein to his lead assistant, J.B. Bickerstaff, for guidance, those sources said."

"His players quickly grew frustrated with him for a number of reasons, all centered around the basic charge that he was not prepared for the speed, tempo, and rigor of NBA games and the schedule at large."

John Beilein never struck me as an NBA guy when he was here, and the day he left for the Cleveland job, I can say that I still wasn't able to picture him the NBA, no matter how frustrated he might have been with the state of the college game. He always struck me as someone deep into the strategy of the game, which is great in college, but in the pros, it is about massaging egos too and I wasn't sure if that was something he would ever master.

I love the guy, and if he retired from here, he would have retired a legend in Ann Arbor. I get that he wanted to give the pros a try, but I somehow thought the window on that had closed for him.

Whatever. That team is filled with a bunch of losers. Losers always blame other people.

he may not be an NBA coach, yet. But I’d bet on Beilein before I’d bet on those hacks. .232 winning % last year. Bunch of losers.

Love everything about John Beilein.

Hate almost everything about the NBA. From the fans to the players, almost everything is terrible. They are barely an American institution after sucking off China for money. College basketball is a far better product.

Players looking for easy excuses.  They probably need help with the fundamentals.  John will stay the course and they will improve their performance if ownership sticks with him.

His players sucked last year without LBJ and really have very little room to critique a winner. If they want to listen to JB Bickerstaff because he “talks like a man,” they should also consider that Bickerstaff Jr is only a NBA assistant because his dad was a shoddy NBA Coach and so has he been, to the tune of a 39% win percentage. I was surprised by the Bickerstaff hire because the father-son combo has been atrocious as coaches—they seem to fail upward like so many do in the NBA.

In this day and age its kinda nuts to take over a bad NBA team as a coach. After all they really just want you to kill the time during the rebuild. Your players suck, either not talented enough or bad attitudes. Good luck teaching systems to guys who think they made it the moment that first NBA paycheck arrives and know that you wont be around if they ever actually get to be contenders in the league.
