Christian Turner possibly injured
Turner, who is fighting for the Wolverines’ third running back job with Tru Wilson, posted on Snapchat a picture of himself in a cast with a sad emoji
— Michigan Nation24/7 (@247Wolverines) August 22, 2018
This is from a twitter account that usually retweets other more credible sources so I'm not sure if it's real or if it is even a serious injury. But something to keep an eye on.

I believe that is in reference to omary samuels
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:38 PM ^
Nope, it's Turner. Apparently he was leading at RB3, too.
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:40 PM ^
so what about samuels? is he 100%, or we don't know....
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
That's what I read as well. Hopefully he's not out very long.
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
"Out for a bit"
A bit is what I tell my kids when they ask how much longer it is until we get there. I.e. I don't know don't ask me again
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:51 PM ^
I always went for "shut up - we'll get there when we get there" option.

Don't make me pull this car over!

I swear to god I will turn around!

One of the truest scenes in the history of cinema.

No matter where we were or where we were going, my dad would always answer "about another 6 hours." Which was the worst.
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:38 PM ^
Shame, here's hoping for a quick recovery and the other backs decide to seize the provided opportunity.
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:38 PM ^
Someone called into Spath's show asking this question but they wouldn't answer directly because it was a paywalled topic on TMI's 24/7 web page.
My WAG is that he is, otherwise they would have said he's fine and the article wouldn't exist in the first place.
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:43 PM ^
It was a picture of his right arm in a cast.
August 22nd, 2018 at 5:35 PM ^
One can still run with a cast on their arm right?
August 22nd, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
It's the (securely) carrying a football part that's the problem.
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
This must have been what umbig11 mentioned yesterday. I thought he was talking about Samuels. Sometimes I get confused who is replying to which comment on here.

I can’t follow any responses beyond a handful on the new site. I used to enjoy the sub-threads immensely. Now I skip over them because I don’t like it when my head hurts.

Being as injury-free as possible is IMHO as important as getting a competent OL. One of the critical factors in 1997 was that we didn't lose any irreplaceable players—Eric Mayes was the only starter we lost for the season, and we had guys who could step up and replace him without too much of a dropoff.
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
Agreed. Afraid to even say anything, but agreed.
There are a couple of guys for whom there is close-to-equivalent depth, but there are some guys who are the difference between "good" and "great" and losing them would be a massive blow.
August 22nd, 2018 at 7:49 PM ^
Yes, and if we're going to form a list of the most indispensable players (those with the largest dropoff to his replacement), the list probably goes:
1. Shea Patterson (I'm basing this on the fact that they named him starter with two weeks left despite their usual attempts to hide the starter - he must have been way ahead and this is the most important position)
2. Gary
3. Runyan? (I'm basing this on the fact that he has locked up the LT job and the next OTs are two freshmen and JBB)
4. Solomon
5. Winovich
6. K Hudson (cuz who is his backup, a true freshman?).
Seems like we have the best depth at TE, Interior OL, CB, and LB such that an injury there could be reasonably absorbed. WR sounds like it's somewhat deep as well, with Nico and Martin able to slide outside if need be.
DL depth matters a lot so losing anyone cuts into that depth and ability to rotate. RB is getting a bit thin now so an injury to one of the top 2 could be problematic because it force the other to be a workhorse and the #2 would be a guy that was #4 just a couple days ago.

He was afraid to even say anything, but you said it for him.

FWIW, we also lost Ben Huff to injury prior to the season in 1997. Not sure if he would have started, but your point is correct in that the most important thing was the overall low injury count combined with the quality depth we had at the positions where we had those injuries, which is the reason those players weren't irreplaceable. The problem at the end of 2015, for example, is that we had an injury at a spot (DT) where we simply couldn't afford one, and OSU was able to bulldoze us, no matter what Durkin did or didn't do. The last two years, our weakest depth was at QB, and that's where the injuries hit late in the year.
For the first time in memory it seems like we finally have solid depth almost everywhere on offense and defense. Even on the O-line, we have 3 players that started last year plus Spanellis with a bunch of PT under his belt, and while the OTs may not be great, at least there probably wouldn't be a huge dropoff if we lost one.
I will now go and furiously knock on wood.

Anyone know how to page umbig11? Need some clarification here.
August 22nd, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
That clarity is already provided. Check the link in the first response.
August 22nd, 2018 at 6:17 PM ^
TBH, I checked that link and I still couldn't tell if he was talking about Samuels or Turner being dinged. Without the player's name in the response, it's still a guessing game for me.
August 22nd, 2018 at 6:24 PM ^
Yeah, at first glance last night it seemed he was talking about Samuels. Now it seems he was referring to Turner cause he posted a picture of what he described. So is it safe to assume Samuels is fine?
August 22nd, 2018 at 5:12 PM ^
unfortunate, but if its a soft cast that he's wearing it'll probably be 4-6 weeks. 10 more days to avoid anything major *knocks on wood
August 22nd, 2018 at 5:32 PM ^
Unfortunate for him. Hopefully it's not too serious.
August 22nd, 2018 at 5:45 PM ^
He's out for a bit. Soft cast on right arm.....next.
August 22nd, 2018 at 6:12 PM ^
If it’s accurate that Turner was third in rotation, this is O’Maury’s opportunity.
August 22nd, 2018 at 6:23 PM ^
Or Wilson...
August 22nd, 2018 at 6:36 PM ^
Thanks UMBig11. Wilson’s grip on RB3 has been consistent and solid since Spring — until Turner’s recent jump. Pass Pro has been noted as a significant reason. Any opinion on his running skills vs others in competition?
August 22nd, 2018 at 6:38 PM ^
This is too bad if true. But, there are always some injuries in fall camp and that is the way it is. Hopefully, there aren't many and there are no season-ending ones.
