Chris Balas on Brandon Peters: "There are recruiting mistakes, and this appears to have been a big one."

Meanwhile Michigan had 4 passing yards in the 2nd half vs IU. I don't really know what to say about this if true, but thought it was extremely noteworthy.

I realize that fan boards are always bombarded with this kind of speculation, but certain facts need to be faced: 1. Harbaugh is a professional football coach who knows what he’s doing, and it’s highly doubtful anyone here would want to see him go. 2. All the fan complaints in the world aren’t going to change one damn thing in the way he thinks. 3. The inexperienced wide receivers are having trouble getting open, and Crawford is also having some difficulty hanging onto the ball. 4. Poor O-line play and lots of stupid penalties aren’t helping. 5. Michigan somehow eked out a win in this last game despite all the problems. 6. 2017 Michigan is not a playoff team, or even close. Maybe next year. 7. Penn State is a solid-but-not-great team that Michigan can beat if mistakes are avoided.

wtf Chris Balas. This guy hasn't had a significant piece of inside football info in at least ten years, but sure go ahead and throw a kid under the bus who has never played. It's a shit statement by a flailing organization, whether Peters winds up staying and playing or not.

At the end of the day we can all agree that O’Korn can even manag the offense, I mean he isn’t patient enough to scan the field or take what the defense gives him and he’s turnover prone so I guess if you want a shot at the Big 10 and a potential playoff spot (which we are still in position for) something drastic needs to be done now. Worst case scenario you give Peters a series to see and if he isn’t productive then you go back to Johnny O but this 3 yards and a cloud of dust is basically throwing in the towel already

coaching staff making decisions...they don't have options. I'd wait before accepting CB assessment on Peters. His track record over the years hasn't always been on point.

And our starting QB is injured and our O-line is average at best.

Everybody needs to chill the fuck out.

Last year's Iowa loss (choke job) and OSU ref robbery cost this team a chance at the playoff and big prize - we were a loaded team and that was our year.

Anybody that thinks you trot out a bunch of sophomores, an average at best QB (Speight), and a bunch of freshmen WR's (even though all will be studs once developed) and just start rolling is an idiot. Now we are down to O'korn behind the same meh O-line and down our best young WR (Tarkik) as well.

There was a recruiting gap when Harbaugh took over and we are feeling it on the offensive side of the ball this year big time- sucks, but it is the reality. Ideally, by next year we will no longer have rebuilding years, and simply keep reloading like other elite programs.

So if you were bitching about Iowa last year or the OSU robbery - I get you, I hear it and there is justification...there are times to be frustrated.

But to bitch about this year's team given age, injuries, recruiting gap, and cirumstances is pretty absurd IMO.

Really disappointing to see such lackluster results on offense so far. I won’t speculate on Peters further than has been already but if he’s not ready to play then what is the plan if O’Korn were to get injured. Is it McCaffrey? Whoever is the current backup, appears to be Peters, then they are already preparing him as the backup. If O’Korn continues to play badly I don’t see why you wouldn’t play the backup even if only to talk to O’Korn and settle him down for a drive or 2. If no one else on the team is worth mentioning after O’Korn then we’re in a horrific state.

O'Korn is going to be the guy, at least until he starts fumbling or throwing ints.  It looks like the coaches are going to lean on the defense, running game, and kickers from here on out.  That's what they did in the second half against IU. The QBs job will be to avoid turnovers, and convert enough short passes to control the ball and maybe score a couple of touchdowns.  It might work.  In any case, it's about the only option on the table.

Lest not we forget that Harbaugh himself struggled to get PT and considered transferring

"I remember my own career, I thought there was a time where I wasn't going to play at Michigan and was told that and called my dad," Harbaugh said today on the "Jamie and Stoney" show on WXYT-FM (97.1). "It was like deja vu reading what Wilton was saying. That happened to me my sophomore year."

Yes I know, freep. but it explains well the insanely risky gauntlet that college qbs go through to have a chance at making it.
