Love it. Hate the Pats but love Chase and the fit seems perfect on paper. Really excited for him and hope that he blows up.
Cosign. Sigh. The perils of being a Bills fan and a Michigan Man.
Steelers and Michigan here. Of course there is Devin Bush...ha!!!
I get that but like I tell my daughters boyfriend who is from Buffalo and is a diehard fan, its not the Pats that are keeping you from winning the Superbowl. It would be like a Lion fan bitching about them damn Packers and that f-ing Rodgers
I just hate Boston. I wish they would stop drafting our players.
Nice to see Wino get paid. Excited to see him play at the next level. He's going to be a beast!
I wish I could get a signing bonus when obtaining new employment.
many of us do. it's called relocation. and it isn't nearly as much as Wino got.
Shit, I wish I could obtain new employment, period.
Be faster and stronger and maybe you will.
I like that advice.
If they want you bad enough, they'll pay extra.
I wish I could get a signing bonus when obtaining
It's highly overrated. It's taxed at 35% rather than regular payroll. I'd rather have the bump in salary.
Also, relocation expenses are for employment aren't tax deductable like they used to be.
A lot of companies are using, ahem, sign on bonuses as a retention mechanism.
I worked for a shithole of a firm that gave me a large bonus. You have to pay it back if you leave after 1 to 2 years... depending on offer letter wording. Hypothetically let's say you get a 10K bonus. You only see $6,500. But if you leave you have to fork out the $3,500 out of your own pocket.
I wanted to leave after the first month. It was clear they grossly misrepresented the job to me and lied their asses off to get me. I tried to deny payment of the bonus and OGC was having none of that. I even hired an employment lawyer. Which in turn OGC just kept on with stalling and paperwork tactics to make me burn through me retainer. So I ended up having to do a year with that firm before I left.
That really sucks about the paying back the bonus part but your idea that your bonus was taxed at a different rate than regular income is totally incorrect. Bonus income is standard w2 income. Your employer may have withheld 35% but bonus is not magically taxed different when your w2 comes out at the end of the year.
but your idea that your bonus was taxed at a different rate than regular income is totally incorrect
Shall I scan the receipt from the check for you?
Dude, you’re not paying attention. The check may have had X amount withheld but come tax time all your gross w2 income is treated the same. So if too much was paid to the irs on that check you would get that money back as a tax refund when you filed taxes. If that happens again you can have your employer withhold less by filling out a new w4 form with more exemption boxes checked.
Or or you can be dumb and think the bonus check is taxed differently. Read the article you linked. Withheld is not the same as taxed.
Or you can just go chew grass
You can have whatever you want withheld from your bonus unless your company has an internal rule against it. What your company withholds is not what you owe the IRS.
Sure, but if you're earning what Winovich is, it'll be taxed at 35% anyway.
Congrats, Chase. May you do as well there as another Patriot draftee from UM, The GOAT.
Alan Branch?
Ty Law
Zoltan "Emperor of Space" Mesko, obvsly
Corwin Brown (Parcells era)
It's Garvie Craw.
One more Michigan reason to love the Pats.
Great news for Chase very happy he found a home with the Pats.
He'll play well throughout the contract and get a much bigger offer from another team when it's time to re-up. Probably the Lions.
The lie-downs, why do you wish bad things upon our beloved Michigan Man???
Hey man, just pointing out the Lions' new penchant for signing former Pats.
"$997,312 signing bonus"? Gotta negotiate for that sweet 7 figure check
That's a very specific amount, isn't it? Happy for him. Glad he's getting that coin.
No shit. You'd think that for less than three grand they could have made the signing bonus a neat round figure.
Very cool. Think he will fit in well with their system. On the other side, they are noted for drafting system fit at a higher weight than "top of the board" sensibilities, so it has to be flattering and certainly excited to get picked up and paid by their organization.
Did Kraft include a gift certificate to a massage parlor?
That's where the other $2688 of the signing bonus went.
Congrats to Chase and we all know he will represent the UM with pride and help lead the Pat's as he did AA GO BLUE
4 years at less than $4MM?!?!? Wow. Is that the going rate for stud linebackers these days/favorable for the Pats?
He'll be a household name soon enough... I'm sure other endorsements will come along as he begins playing. That charisma will get him just as far as his performance on the field.
Mo money!
Outstanding..... I hope this is only the first of many contracts in his NFL career.
Great young man, great opportunity, bankin' it on the way!
Congratulations are in order. Now with Chase and TB, I could turn into a Pats fan.
Not a Patriots fan, but I am a Chase fan. Good news indeed and good luck to Chase.
Welcome to Boston Chase. He's going to instantly be a favor favorite and regular on Inside Track (Boston version of Page Six). Tough place is Boston, been 109 days since we've celebrated a professional championship! Guess 3 out 4 ain't bad, right Kyrie!!!
Hope he puts $2MM in an index fund. However, he is just as likely to make a big donation to ChadTough. Or maybe make a Praire Dog sanctuary/amusement park in his backyard.
SI had an article a while ago on how pro ath lose their money. I forgot who, but a well known NBA players lost $100K(?) on his friend's business--which was selling little life rafts that you store under your couch. So that, if your house floods, it inflates and saves your couch.
That sounds like a great product. I have an amazing couch.
Nice.
Chase gave everything he had to Michigan football. Hope to see him do well in the NFL. Good luck Chase!!
