Honestly, no. Not to minimize the incredible hard work it takes to get to that level, but players that immensely talented usually don't make good coaches because so much of the game just comes intuitively to them. They can't explain why they do what they do half the time. Others are so physically talented they can get away with techniques that aren't ideal.

I'd rather stick to coaches that weren't all that talented as players/athletes but are superb teachers and motivators. Coaching and playing are two totally different skill sets.

He does a pretty good job of explaining football on TV. I know, that’s different than coaching, but a lot of good football players make terrible TV guys because they don’t have the ability to communicate the nuances of the game.

Look at the difference between Aikman and Romo as color guys. To me, that suggests that Romo would make a much better coach than Aikman. You’re right that being a good football player doesn’t mean that you will be able to effectively communicate the details of the game, but when you get a guy like Romo who has both you get the best of both worlds. I suspect that Woodson would make a good coach. Peyton Manning would not (I know, it would have made more sense to use another DB as an example, but I couldn’t help throwing that shade).

AWESOME! Michigan now has 11 people in the Hall of Fame, trailing only Notre Dame and USC, both with 13. The list:

George Allen, Dan Dierford, Len Ford, Benny Friedman, Bill Hewitt, Elroy Hirsch, Steve Hutchison, Ty Law, Tom Mack, Ralph Wilson Jr. and CHARLES WOODSON.

The video that they played on cbs was great, maybe I am biased (I am), but I don’t know if there has ever been a player that looked as cool while playing as Charles Woodson. As a vikes fan he killed us, but you couldn’t be mad at him.

Absolutely. I loved Woodson, Howard, John Kolesar, and many dozens of other Wolverines over the years. But I don't know anybody who was a Michigan fan during AC's era that doesn't consider him, simply, the most remarkable player they've ever seen. I don't know if younger generations can truly understand the threat he posed to other teams, and this back in an era when Michigan simply didn't throw much. But every time Wangler or Steve Smith went back to pass, electricity went through the stadium. Had he been on a passing team he may well have won two or three Heisman Trophies. He will always be THE man, to me, and anytime younger fans try to compare another Wolverine to him, I tell them not to try. It's not the same.

5 star talent, 5 star mentality for cornerback.  Just a freak in coverage and he’d blow your ass up in the run game.  Easily the best corner to play at Michigan.   Well deserved honor for the GOAT

Exactly. If there has been a more complete corner: coverage, tackling in secondary, run support, and blitzing ability and turnover generation, I don't know who it would be. He has more competition for best ever NFL corner than even Brady does at QB, but he gets my nod.

A Michigan athlete making the HOF in their Michigan sport should absolutely be a front page article, btw. This is not a critique, wouldn't be surprised if one of the guys posts it. Just saying: We don't get guys in the HOF all the time. And Woodson is the favorite player of a good percentage of people on this board.

The very best make it look easy.  I always thought of it as the Jordan Rule. But you wouldn't be wrong to call it the Woodson Rule.
