I totally forgot about this 6' 6" Kentucky transfer guard who will eligible to play next year. Very interesting article that gives me more hope for this team once Walton graduates.

"He does things in practice that we haven't seen since (Tim Hardaway Jr.)," Beilein added. "He's probably a combination of Hardaway and Glenn Robinson III. That's a good combination to have."

Worse, the lede photo shows a player line up without identifying by appearance within the order which player is the subject of the article. Good thing, as the pop up states, this piece is not protected by paywall. Sheesh what are standards anymore.

" The program never recruited Matthews as a high schooler. He picked the Kentucky over Illinois, Kansas, Michigan State and Marquette." Seeing as his hs coach and Beilein have known each other for 20 yrs and he called Beilein when he decided to transfer, why the hell didn't he recruit him out of hs. This is the problem with Beilein.

Probably because he was a slasher and defensive stopper, not a shooter. aside from that on the roster we had Chatman/Irvin/LeVert/Dawkins at that spot. plus Duncan Robinson sitting a year. it wouldn't have made sense to take another wing player at the time. of course when it became clear Chatman wasn't cutting it, and Dawkins left, then we were gapped.

I think Matthews is going to be really good, especuially if Dolon is here. Man I miss seeing Hardaway and GR3 back at Michigan, those guys were good and we were spoiled to have them al play in the span  thre years.
