Chances we see Peppers on Offense this week?

Submitted by AZBlue on

While basking in the afterglow of the Defensive UFR, I started thinking this might be the week we see a little JP on offense.  I am thinking this would be done primarily to put stuff on tape that D'Antoni and staff would have to prepare for next week.  My guess would be in a slot/jet-sweep look and/or as a 2nd (or 3rd) RB in the backfield.

Not being an football guru, I am not sure if this is best done by running plays using him so counters to a MSU overreaction could be deployed the next week or using him as a decoy to save his actual usage in those plays for the MSU game itself.  Maybe putting out for the first time vs. MSU would achieve the same results?

Of course they could just wait to add some packages for him during the bye week, but I get the feeling the Jim may take the opportunity to deploy the Peppers - or the threat of Peppers - to mess with our siblings up the road.

I have a feeling he's not really going to play much, if any, on offense this season. Maybe as a decoy once in a while. He's still got a lot of room for improvement as a defender and we don't want him to give up too much practice time there.

Throw it out there, make sparty prep for it and use valuable time, dont run it until you need to, or as a decoy.

I don't know about peppers. But somebody needs to take up the slake for JC, who's a great blocker, a fine runner, and a substandard receiver. Can anyone recall a single instance in which he's made a difficult catch?

I'd spend more time watching the NW v Stanford game and game planning. I have a feeling our passing game will be the difference. .. just gut.

I think it is unlikely early on. However, if the offense is stagnant, I do believe that this is something JH has in his back pocket. I think he would ideally like to save it as a surprise for MSU, no need to put it on tape.

Something tells me that we won't see him this week, but we may very well see him during the MSU game.

I'd bet when he trots out, Harbaugh will use him as a decoy to set up some big play. Everyone will be expecting him to get the ball.

If Jabrill Peppers ever gets to play on offense this year, it would be nice to see his first play go as well as this other Michigan speedster's first play on offense!

Probably not. I would rather see Rudock complete a few deep passes to Drake Harris. Somehow it hasn't worked with Chesson. I think there was one deep pass to Drake Harris so far. If he can connect with Harris, we will be able to make MSU back off in addition to a big game against NW.

So, I would rather see the other speedster in our team, Drake Harris, shine this Saturday.

I've been so looking forward to seeing a healthy Drake Harris play. He told me personally 2 Saturday's ago that his hams are truly fully healed. Yet in the limited chances to see him do anything he hasn't looked fast or quick or shown moves. On the other hand the camera work this year never shows the routes unless the ball goes to a guy. Never on replays either it seems.

I'd like to see game film on what he's actually been doing on the plays he's been in.

This is really pretty simple.  If Peppers has not been practicing on offense, he will not be entering a game on offense.  Until we know he is practicing there I would say this is a zero % chance.

Do you really think we'd know if he was or wasn't taking offensive snaps? I don't. Harbaugh is crafty and isn't going to let anyone know what he's got cooking for Peppers, even if it's nothing.

Seriously on 2nd and 2 at midfield give him an end around. If he scores or gains a bunch of yards, great! If it gets stopped, maybe MSU will spend 30 minutes in practice on it and it will be a waste of time.

Northwestern has a great defense, so bringing in an athlete like Peppers in a package they haven't seen could be very valuable. At the same time, Northwestern's offense, while not incompetent, isn't frightening. Saving him for OSU, as some have suggested, could be worth less (their defense isn't special). It also means that Peppers, who will have to use a ton of energy against OSU's offense could get winded a little more quickly.

I think that we've actually had pretty good play from our recievers of late.  I think Chesson and Darboh are probably better than what we thought we had under Hoke.   Additionally, I think Peppers is being asked to A LOT on Defense.  He lines up in so many different spots and has so many different responsibilities, I think the coaches are really throwing all they can at him.  He is doing great with it, but more time spent with the offense gives him less time practicing/learning those nuances on defense.     As far as RB instead of WR, which I've heard he may be one of our better ones, I just think that would probably be too much abuse to play defense and the RB position.

And if the defense keeps playing this well, I don't see a reason to risk tiring him out playing offense. I think if we need a spark on offense we might see him, but, if not, I don't think he will play any offense this week.

had mastered their craft of playing CB in college before looking for more responsibilities.  Pep is still really a freshman as far as adapting to playing at the college level, which is being proven as he keeps getting better and better every week.  Let him run through the B1G one good time and then get him some offensive plays next season when the game has slowed way down for him.  That said IMO he has an even higher upside on offense than Woodson or Champ did, and that is saying a hell of a lot.
