Champeen's thoughts on Zak Irvin's film.

Submitted by Champeen on

is special.

I have been watching every one of Walton and Irvin clips since their junior seasons.  IMO, Walton was clearly the better player and the 'bigger' get during their junior years.  It even became more apparent how important he was when Burke was next to gone to the NBA.

However, watching Irvin's senior year highlights so far - wow.  I have always followed basketball closely, specifically Michigan recruiting.  I can safely say Irvin's high school film is the best i have seen since..... Webber (although in different ways, and only including Michigan commits).

Irvin is the complete package.  He can shoot.  He can dribble.  He can penetrate/drive (at an elite level i may add).  He is long.  He is so absolutely athletic.

Those close to Zak had stated the reason why no one had seen this years Irvin last year was because Gary Harris was there.  I did not beliive it.  Well, he either blew up in one year, or the reason was true.

Walton is a very, very good player.  Potential McDonald all american.  But wathcing Irvin - he is special.  He is going to absolutely KILL it in JB's system.  Kill it.

That is all- happy holidays everyone  :)

I have to read all this bs about a bad title!! Whatever, I just went through this whole thread trying to find something informative about Zak Irvin! Ya, that didn't happen thanks to all the title police.

As much as I love this board (and I do) and as much time as I spend on it everyday (a lot), I get so tired of seeing this.  Every post on this thread is not regarding the content and why we should be excited about this kid, it's some asshole venting about how this post is not good enough for them.  It's amazing how many narcissistic douchbags can congregate in one place.  If you're not moving the conversation forward or at least making a witty comment, why take the time to post at all?

Also, Merry Christmas Bitches!

I can understand your frustration, but the fact remains:  If your going to start a thread, use an informative title.  Otherwise, people that wouldn't normally click on this thread have to do so to figure out what its about and then get pissed that they could have skipped it if they weren't interested.  Its all about being considerate of others and not being lazy.

especially knowing that you are a part of this board in your own right and have dealt with this issue many times (I would imagine), my point is this:

How many assholes does it take to tell someone they made a mistake?  Surely by the 3rd poster telling him his title was crap, the poor guy understood that next Christmas, he'll do things differently.  He knows he forgot the TPS Report...!

I get it, too. It's always the same:

- guy names thread poorly
- people yell at him
- someone always says 'what is your problem dudes it's just a title don't click it or whatever'
- big argument

Seems like not naming the thread with a dumbass title would prevent all of this.

That said, interesting post. How about some links to the videos the OP has been watching or something?

Because he still hasn't changed it yet. There's also a question of whether "I'm some Internet dude and watching him on YouTube makes me think he's awesome" is thread worthy or not. I mean...why? What about him? Your basketball background? What makes him better than everyone since Webber? How about making it a point of discussion....or a breakdown? The bad thread title distracted from all that. But if he had just changed his title after the first one it would have stopped. Even "Zak Irvin is special"....though really what the thread is saying "I think Zak Irvin is special"...it's just thin on the "why."

It's not okay to post a vague title and have people risk wasting a precious 30 seconds clicking on the thread and deciding whether or not it's relevant to their interests. But it is okay to shit up a perfectly good discussion about a recuit bitching about the title? It's not like OP was purposefully vague to get clicks. It's a pretty innocent mistake. Meanwhile, the thread is unreadable.

I see deleting comments as a Pandora's Box situation: we're all better off having everyone on the thread make decisions on the validity of a comment (and keeping the comment there to see) than having me or profit deleting a bunch of stuff posted within the rules. There's just not a good place to start or end with that.

Why do I immediately think the dude either died or got arrested when I see a name with no other explanation on a thread?  Why do I never think "hey...this will probably be something nice about a player I know".  Nope - always either dead or in jail in my mind.

Glad this was just a shitty thread title and nothing worse.

I was thinking maybe he decommited...then remembered he already signed.

As for Irvin's play, yes, he looks really impressive.  I would also rate him as our top incoming recuit.  I'm guessing GR3 stays for his sophomore year (projected in the 2nd round), but if he doesn't, Irvin will fill that gap very nicely.

I only clicked on this thread because I thought Irvin wasn't qualified or was injured or did something amazing. You trolled for my view I hope your thread reaches -50 in downvotes.

It was a thread title that was too vague, otherwise the content was fine.  Just help the guy out by informing him that his thread titles need to be more specific and move on.

Sorry Champeen, we got Title Nazi's in here. Though, next time at least put "Zak Irvin is special"...that would probably be a tad bit better. What I don't get it is why can't one person just correct him, why do we have to have 20 other followers correct him, as if the first person wasn't enough already for Champeen to understand what he did wrong. Regardless, you seem new to posting on here, since you only have 121 points, therefore I wouldn't get on you!

I have been keeping track of the recruits, Donnal, Irvin, and Walton. Walton seems to be blowing up, but Irvin is keeping up with him. I think he will fill Tim Hardaway's role really nicely, if timmy were to leave this year. I honestly feel Irvin is playing better than Gary Harris did, when Harris was a senior. Gary Harris is averaging about 12 points a game at MSU. If Irvin could do that next year, I would be happy. I'm excited for the future of our basketball team!

Both Walton and Irvin should be top 25 prospects by the time they arrive at Michigan.  Whether they actually get rated that way or not remains to be seen.  As Brian points out, everyone could see that Stauskas was better than his rankings indicated, while the hobbit from NC State was a McDonalds All American.

Walton badly outplayed Kasey Hill (top 10 player and #1 or #2 PG to most sites) over the summer.  He has only improved every time I have seen him.  His skill set fits perfectly with the roster that we will have next year as he is a distributor first and he will have so many weapons at his disposal.

I remember back to Irvin's recruitment there was some discussion if we should take Irvin, VJ Beachem or some others.  As it seems is always the case (was with Walton as well), the guy who Beilein selects ends up skyrocketing.

I love Donnal's potential but I see him redshirting next year with Morgan, McGary, Robinson III, Horford and Beilfeldt all fighting for minutes at the 4/5.

Next year will be an even bigger fight for minutes, especially if THJ returns.  How do you divide up 80 minutes between THJ, Stauskas, Levert and Irvin?

You really think Hardaway will stay? I think it would be a luxury to have THJr, Irvin and LeVert splitting minutes at the 3 (Stauskas is a 2, IMO), but I see THJr bolting to the NBA after the season he is poised to have.

Re: Donnal, taking a look at the depth at the 4 (I think Horford exclusively plays the 5 next season, if he can stay healthy, btw) I think a redshirt is likely. It's amazing how we have gone from last year (Smotrycz, then an out of position Morgan or out of position Novak) to the depth we have this year, to where we have the luxury of redshirting a 4 next year. Amazing.

One last thing: really enjoyed the post by Champeen, but it's pathetic that 90% of the responses to this post were about its title. This is why those of us who seek intelligent conversation about Michigan sports M-Go-Elsewhere.
