CC: Bizarre Finish Leaves 49ers 4-4

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on
After allowing the Rams to hang around all game, the 49ers actually fell behind at home 13-10 with approximately 2-3 minutes remaining. In a bizarre series of plays involving pass interference, holding and a near-score, SF had the ball on the Rams 1 with 19 seconds and a TO remaining. Kaepernick fumbled the snap into the end zone for a touchback and Rams win. SF now sits far back in their division at 4-4 with two games remaining against a desperate Seattle team, a game at New Orleans and two final home games against Arizona and San Diego. Given that multiple talking heads have said Harbaugh wouldn't return even with a Super Bowl win, the timing is becoming a little convenient for those who believe UM has a shot with a coach who may be hungry to get people remembering how great of a coach he's been in the past...

I took his comments to mean that the Athletic Department is not going to fleece the fans anymore just to make a buck!  They would look for balance in generating revenue.

I did not take that to mean he wouldn't pay for a head coach.

I mean even if he's not back with the 49ers, he'll have NFL teams lining up around the corner to get him.  I just don't get why people think he or his brother would leave the NFL to come to college?

There is literally not a single example of an NFL coach with as much success as the Harbaugh brothers have individually voluntairly leaving the NFL to coach college.

Bill Walsh was retired for a couple of years and bored with life so he went back to Stanford.  Jim Mora Jr. and Pete Carroll were both fired twice each before going to college.  John Harbaugh has a SB win and is at the peak of his career.  Jim Harbaugh is a firebred competitor who wants a Super Bowl, especially after he lost to his brother.  I really don't think he's going to willingly leave the NFL.

For unique circumstances (not even necessarily related to their UM ties), leaving the NFL (or at the very least their current teams, which then opens the door to consideration) makes sense for both of them. Probably more for John. If the Ray Rice suspension is overturned/reduced, you are going to see people bailing out of Baltimore like rats off of a sinking ship so as not to be associated with that mess.

In regards to that, if the Ray Rice suspsension is overturned, they can still drop him and he'll be someone else's problem or no one else's problem.

Again, they'll both have NFL teams lining up.  I think the circumstance of Jim losing to his brother and not having a SB make it more likely that he won't be the HC hear.

Successful NFL coaches don't leave in the prime of their career's to coach college.

Even though it's the premier job/league some get sick of dealing with agents, managers, and players that make more money than the "boss". Others like the teaching aspect or being more able to choose your players.

It's a bit more than just if you can get an NFL job, you take it.

This is good. We haven't had things go our way in the last 2 coaching searches...we deserve a bit of of good luck for a change.

Harbaugh gets hired after January.  here is why.

1.  Bowl game.  We beat a horrific NU (the first one) team, then golly knows about UM (the other one, actually, the other other one), but if we win that one, we will get to 6-5.  And play in mid-December.

2.  Hoke's buyout goes down significantly after Jan. 1.

3.  New AD won't be on scene until early Dec. or mid Dec. anyway; I take the POTUM at his word that he will be deliberative.  Plus, even if we hire by Dec., how long will it take the AD to come over?  Won't he want to transition out of the old job a bit?

4.  Team won't want to have a vacancy that long and have Jim and Mullen and other peppered.

5.  New AD, or even the interim, will want to at least talk to other CC's who likely will be coaching into January (lqqking @ u Dan).

So... sit tight fellas and gals, we have another 2 months to go.

After January 1 maybe, but certainly not after the entire month of January.  The NFL regular season ends Dec 28th.  No need for things to play out much past Jan 1 if Jim is truly available and interested.  Get him hired first week of January and he has a full month to recruit.  No more "process" BS.

Carsten Charles. The big lefty must have been Tweeting about his hometown (area at least) team and OP was relaying his description of the end of the Niners game...

Brady started every game that season, but in the first half of the year, there was the platoon - Brady would play the first quarter, Henson would play the second quarter and then the better QB would start the second half.

Against MSU, Henson got us our only first-half TD, so Carr gave him the nod for the second half.  He then struggled and got pulled in favor of Brady, who almost led us back from 17 down.

If we hire Harbaugh, how many years will it take until Dantonio and him have a fistfight on the field at some point during or after a game? I say 2 years.

Can someone with good video editing skills splice together a thrash tape where they make it so Dantonio and Urban are talking trash about Harbaugh? Then we mail it to Jim's house. Bingo, recruitment over.

I'm not sure that paying a football coach $6-7 million is  what our new president has in mind.  It is entirely possible that he gives his new AD authority only up to the current $4 million per year Hoke is making.  Obviously, I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Or Ross saves his pennies and gives Harbaugh the money to coach the Dolphins.  If he's not with the 49ers, off the top of my head, the Raiders and the Dolphins would be enticing jobs to him.  Raiders for his wife, mostly wanting to stay in the Bay Area.  I have zero doubt in my mind that Jerry Jones would kick Jason Garret to the curb if he could land Harbaugh.  A lot of NFL teams will be vying for his services.
