Cavs opener?

I guess I am a glutton for punishment… Did anyone catch the Cleveland opener? How did the Coach B’s team look?

I was there with my son. They played a team from Argentina and looked very meh.

I yelled "GO BLUE COACH B!!!" at one point when it was really quiet in the arena.

Still can’t wrap my head around the reasons why he would go there. Shit bag owner, not a FA destination, not much young talent, stuck with broken down Kevin Love. I can’t think of a worse place to go other than maybe Charlotte.

If I’m him, I don’t stress about shit and if losses pile up, oh well. If you get canned, that’s just an early retirement bonus. I don’t see how he can realistically hope to have a successful team there.

I'm guessing here but in general:  private jets, limos, 5-star treatment, no recruiting, having a GM/player personnel staff, no mothership institution unrelated to what you do, 5-star talent or at least not having players who can't physically pull off what you are trying to do. I'm sure Coach B, nice guy that he is, enjoyed coaching 18-22 year old students and scouting high school gyms, but it must be nice to instead be the boss of people (pros/millionaires) you can truly hold accountable

I'd guess the expectations in Cleveland are also pretty low as well. These days it seems like most teams in the NBA don't have expectations to be competitive and instead are managing a years-long process to get there that is largely front office focused. I imagine the Cavs are looking for a coach to set them on a path (developing players to be tradeable assets) and don't necessarily expect Beilein to be around in 3-5 years when all the pieces (2-3 superstars) are in place

I'm excited to see what Beilein can do in the league. With pro sports I care more about certain players/coaches and I don't have any real team loyalties, so as long as Beilein is with the Cavs I'll hitch myself to that (very small) bandwagon.

Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll have many opportunities to see his teams play. I just don't have time to watch the NBA regular season games and I doubt this Cavs team will make the playoffs. They probably won't be televised unless you have whatever special sports package gives you all the NBA games, either.

I wonder if his pro team will do what his Michigan teams did.  Not look great at the start of the season but vastly improve about 2/3 in.  It would not suprise me to see the Cavs start out slow, and then suprise a lot of people by the end of the year.  No idea what the Cavs have in the way of shooters, but if they are decent, I think they barely miss the playoffs.
