Per Catapult:

“We are aware of the ongoing investigation of the alleged unauthorized access to NCAA football video footage. We have conducted an internal investigation and have not found any security breach in our systems. We have shared this with local authorities that are conducting an investigation. We will continue to support the ongoing investigation with the NCAA and local authorities. At Catapult, we hold ourselves to the highest of standards and safeguarding customer information is of utmost importance to us.”

this was the software the “stalbombs” Twitter handle was claiming osu exploited to spy on Penn state, Maryland and others

Ok, I take it back, I'll share one story...

One of the things I do at my job is put together a live events calendar for all sports, awards shows, etc... so I know if we need additional staff on certain days.  I'm on distribution lists from network affiliates, individual franchises (like some of our stations air Dallas Cowboys preseason games so we're on the distribution list for the Cowboys), etc...  Makes sense, right?

Well, my friend had a similar task at Catapult tracking down all the TV schedules for all sporting events (which is hard to find for the lesser watched sports or if there's last minute schedule changes, etc...), however his boss wouldn't let him reach out to these organizations and conferences asking for TV schedules and to be put on a distribution list because his boss thought it would make it appear they don't know how to do their job.  Yep, clown show, indeed!

Going back to my original post, Catapult is saying there was no unauthorized access, which technically may be true.  Like I said, if practice footage was treated in the manner game tape was like my friend dealt with, it could have been someone mislabeling it and a team discovering this and taking advantage.

From the current ESPN NCAAF home page:

"A Michigan spokesperson said that Michigan is not the school being accused of the allegation and that Michigan believed it was one of the schools targeted in the breach. Michigan shut down access to its cloud and video through Catapult in the beginning of November to prevent any unauthorized access to its film."

It is not us, but we were one of the schools that was victimized by it.

Hmmmmm . . . I wonder who the perpetrator could be?

Say what you want about Isiah Hole, but he alluded to this when the Stallions stuff blew up.  My buddy who used to work for the AD had no info on this, fwiw...but he was let go during the Covid layoffs and only knew about binders of dirt on other schools- most being about OSU pay for play before NIL.

I asked him today what he knows about this story and he said nothing but the same rumors we are hearing, - and his AD contacts still there said they can't talk about it, but it was indeed known across CFB.  Still he's not plugged in like he used to be.

Cool that Catapult is under investigation...but what about OSU for exploiting it?

Exactly. Isn't this like investigating the cameras that whatshisface's people used to record the sidelines? Catapult isn't the issue, it's the hackers that exploited it that are the problem.

I have a comment above about this. The link you used is written by a person who needs some serious help with logic and writing. But he's not the only one trying to make that connection. As I say above, I think they're genuinely trying to piece this together because they don't understand why Bama is taking this precaution in response to playing Michigan when Michigan is actually one of the victims. And in fact, it is pretty stupid of Alabama, except that I think they just figure it's a better safe than sorry situation.
