There is a Gray Franklin listed in the alumni directory. He is listed as living in Southgate, MI. He is a BBA, 20XX.

Good point, maybe along with the year and M. I. (since they can be figured out) the guy should prove he was there in Playa del Carmen
I would be stunned if there was only one Gary Franklin from UM.

If I were Gary Franklin, I'd make real, real sure the finder of that ring isn't Jim McElwain. You never know where he's put his sharky hands during that trip.
Sounds like Gary could have used McElwains skills to turn the tide but it was to late.
