Calling All Water Polo Players.

Submitted by His Dudeness on
If there are any former water polo players on this board who will be near the Grand Haven area this weekend, a Grand Rapids area team is hosting a tournament at Grand Haven High School in which University of Michigan will be playing. They are a little short on guys attending and could use your help. If you can help out in the pool or just want to come watch (free admission) I can post the schedule. University of Iowa and Michigan Masters are also in need of a couple guys as well. Thanks.

so we got one terrible excuse for a joke, one actual response and some jibberish that I have no idea what to think about. Pretty much par for the course around here. kthanxbai.

Sorry. There was a guy on here named 'Marquis Slocum's SAT Scores' that refereed water polo and was booted by Brian at about the same time you joined. Are you sure you're not him? Did you ever see Dan O'Neill at a water polo match?

Dudeness - what team do you play for? I founded a Masters team here in Toronto back in '01, we have over 50 dues-paying members now. We host a tournament every spring @ U of Toronto Aquatic Center. Always looking for new blood. Do you guys travel at all?

We are about a year old and we do travel. Going to Midwest Championships in Chicago the first week of August. We went down to University of North Carolina's tournament earlier this summer and won the thing! We do 1-2 tourneys a year outside of Chicago (we can always get there). We are based out of Grand Rapids (hence the 616). Let me know via this thread when your tourneys are or any you know about and maybe we can get a game or two on!

We call it "hockey on melted ice". The Canadian men's team qualified for the '08 Olympics. Toronto hosted one of the two FINA semi-finals and Montreal hosted the FINA finals in '07. There is a big Serbian / Hungarian /Croatian community here and that's where the World power is in the sport, so it flows naturally. It's not like California or anything and kids still grow up hockey-crazy primarilly here, but polo has a good niche.

I was thinking you guys had lots of Euros living/playing in that area. I grew up and played water polo in Southern California and it was pretty damn competitive. Some schools had imports playing for them so that they can then go get a full ride to USC. Those Hungarians are brutal.
