Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be the thread for snowflakes and hot takes regarding the overall coaching - quality, strategy, what-have-you - in the BYU game.

First win over a ranked team since 2013. Clearly our coaches out coached the BYU coaches.  I can't remember the last time our coaches had a dominant performance like that. Not to mention the actual players on the field.

Went straight to Mattison and Durkin. As he should've.

Loved the double screen playcall. Only gripe is too many first down passes that left us in 2nd and 10 where we had to pass.

Loved leaving the defensive starters in the game to get the shutout. While there was a risk of injury, those guys deserved to blank the scoreboard, and couldn't hurt with Gary taking in the game.

What can I say. We have the best coach in all of football. HARBAUGH is Football GAWD. DJ Durkin is awesome. Drevno knows what he is doing. I hope we can keep this staff in tact for a few years. They are just too damn good. Go Blue!

...and Michigan looks good.  They are ahead of schedule by any reasonable pre-season expectations.  Easily a top 20 team.

The road game at Maryland should be a win, but it will be a nice way to get the players to go on the road and play a really solid game, which will help out later in the year at Penn State and at the end of October at Minnesota.

..was how Michigan's d-line was so dominant in the first half.  Disruptive.  Nothing BYU could do to stop it.

The pass coverage was also really strong.

It has been a while since Michigan put together a 1st half this dominant over real team.

Offense made some real positive strides today.  Defense still way ahead though.  Rudock held the ball too long on two of the sacks.  He missed passes to open receivers on a couple of plays.  But overall he was much better.

Still will have to get a lot better to be beat MSU and OSU.  But M is playing a lot better than in week 1, and it is realistic for the first time since 2011 to envision the team getting better each week, and entering November as a real top 15 team.

BTW, did anyone catch Speilman saying that based on Michigan's domiant performance he was raising his prediction of total wins for Michigan.... from 8 to.............9!   Unreal.

The playcalling was brilliant, and the win was beyond doubt in the first half, I'm as happy as I was watching Desmond and Moeller as a boy, but not scoring at all in the second half, again, leaves me wanting. I know I'm picking nits, but I want to see second half scores. We're going to be in games where we'll need to win late, or come from behind, and our boys will need to get used to those situations and grinding out tough points. I believe they got practice at that in the second half, but I'd still like to see any post-halftime points.

I'm thinking back to Hoke's recent comments about how a coach needs 5 - 6 years to get a program to where he wants it to be. Maybe a coach like Hoke needs that long.

This is the first year in the the last four where I've watched all the games from start to finish. I don't have that overwhelming need to leave the room when I know things are about to go really south. Because they're not. I can imagine a few rough plays. But with this team I can't imagine a complete breakdown like we saw with Hoke's teams.

When we get a QB with some mobility, this offense is going to be a nightmere to defend.  You can't defend everyone that you need to without leaving hugh running lanes open for the QB.

Two plays in the 2nd quarter stood out to me:

1. Rudock fakes to be RBs in the backfield then hits Khalid Hill down the seam.  BRILLIANT play design.  Totally confused BYU.

2. that deep pass to Jake Butt.  WR ran guys out of the zone and Butt ran under them and broke wide open.

I'm sure there were many smaller cases of RPS brilliance, but those two were shear genius.
