Brisson and Bordeleau both sign with the AHL

Brendan Brisson just signed with Vegas' AHL affiliate and Bordeleau with San Jose's AHL affiliate. They are 'Amateur Tryout Agreements' which I don't know much about but I believe this is basically how you sign for a partial season in the AHL. Unsurprising but still sad to see them go. Best of luck guys

I believe the only guys we're realistically waiting for go/no-go decisions are

  • Johnny Beecher (probably go)
  • Luke Hughes (probably return)

I think other guys like Mackie, Ethan Edwards, and Dylan Duke are pretty certain returners but I won't say that too loud...

Thought I read that Beecher signed.

No surprises here, though I would have liked to see Bordeleau back. I’d have liked to see Owen Power back, too, but it wasn’t happening and that’s ok.

Portillo is returning. I hope all the freshmen do, and the recruits show up.

In other news, MSU just axed Danton Cole. Took a bit but they made the right decision.

I think the ATOs allow them to play in the AHL without using up the first of three years in the entry level contract (which Power, Beniers and Johnson are doing).

It amounts to playing a few games in the minors (which they would be doing anyway) without burning a year on their ELC. Contract limits for their NHL teams could also play a factor here as well.

No benefit to burning a year on the ELC for a player to play 8ish games in the minors. If you’re getting a look at them in the NHL, you can justify it to an extent. But even then it’s mostly for guys who the GM actually thinks will be on the main roster next year.

Vegas is in the hunt for the final playoff spot and can’t justify giving Brisson an NHL look yet. As he’d be ineligible for the playoffs even if he does improve the team. And I personally don’t think Bordeleau is quite ready for the NHL yet, even on a bad team like San Jose. While they COULD give him a few NHL games to see what he’s got, I think he’ll be in the AHL for most of next season and there’s no need to burn a year right now. At that point you’d have wasted 2 of the 3 years on his ELC for a guy that hasn’t played in the NHL.

Just took a quick scan of our line chart from the Denver game. As of right now, we’re losing 9 of our 13 forwards (with Beecher being one of the 4 remaining) and 2 of our 6 defensemen.

Steve Holtz was a regular on the blue line early in the season before getting injured so he should slot back into one of the vacated spots there. Keranen didn’t dress but has the ability to play both forward and defense and should have a role next year, even if just as the extra dressed player. LaPointe was in and out of the lineup.

We have a really good class coming in (13 signed) but this looks like it will be a very young team.
