Brett McMurphy receives vulgar threats from OSU fans

Submitted by Blue from Ohio on

Sorry if this has already been posted, but I work 2 jobs and don't have time to scroll through all the posts and didn't see anything titled along these lines.  Came across this article.  Not the least bit surprising with that fanbase, but still sad nonetheless.  Not exactly shocking news.

Put that in the “not at all surprising“ category.

They really believe he’s on a witchhunt  to take down the whole program like he has some type of personal vendetta.

They really think that if Mayer is not fired that Mcmurphy somehow has some serious egg on his face. But, if they were to ever actually look at his reporting, they would see he never advocates for anything in this whole saga, just getting his story out.

I moved to Texas a couple years back. I have a really tough time trying to describe Ohio State’s fan base to The Aggies and Longhorns on my street. It’s too easy to call them names because they are worse than that. I think a majority of their fan base would sell their soul th devil to beat Michigan. While I would love to beat Ohio St it’s way down on my list of what I need to make me happy. These guys beating Michigan it’s #1 on their list I’m betting. They are creepy.

I had multiple friends of mine who are Bama fans texting me essentially the same thing before the 2015 Sugar Bowl: you were right, OSU fans are the absolute worst, even more obnoxious than LSU fans. It's not just to us that they are insane, they are legitimately an awful fanbase. Every fanbase has crazies, but, for OSU, those crazies are the vast majority as opposed to a fringe element.

Don’t flatter yourself by thinking it’s that big of a deal, beating Michigan is a few notches above beating Illinois. I mean, dont get me wrong, it’s fun watching OSU beat you every year, then reading your fanbase pretend to not care, but it’s not really all that big of a deal.

Yeah, they have a song about Illinois now And paint everything Orange to Red there and cross off all the I’s. Sure it’s not a big deal to beat Michigan anymore to you. You’re making me laugh. If Meyer lost to Michigan more than once you guys would fire him in hours to keep the knuckle draggers off campus.

I wonder if Courtney Smith will need to go into witness protection after this. Not really joking either. I’m sure it won’t be good for her to stay in Ohio. Normally DV victims needs to hide from their significant other, but in her case the OSU fan base may be worse.

Of course they have. This is probably one of the only stories regarding all this in the last several days to week or more where I haven't read it and said, "Oh wow..."

For anyone who wasn't following the Freddie Prinze Jr tweetfest, there were OSU fans referencing his father's death and telling him that his father took the coward's way out (for those that don't know, Prinze Sr. was a famous comedian who committed suicide). And that was just for questioning "time served" as punishment when you are are getting paid while suspended from work.

If that was what Prinze Jr was getting, I can't imagine what McMurphy was being subjected to.

Yeah, it's shitty, but not surprising. I guarantee you that if the roles were reversed and it was Harbaugh under investigation, there would be seedy pockets of Michigan fans doing the same thing. Shitty people exist everywhere, especially when they can hide behind twitter handles.

No way. I can't believe THE Ohio State University cooler poopers would do something like that.

I'm flummoxed I say...just flummoxed.

Just beat ND.

I'm so tired of this whole story. 99% of us here know that their program and coach are hypocrites and expected nothing to happen.

Fuck them. Fuck them without wearing $2000 worth of rings and ball suspenders...just fuck them.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, and water is wet.  Everyone knows OSU has some of the worst, lowlife fans of any college team in America.  And more than just a few for sure.  Bad upbringing and genetics can't be fixed overnight.

So this is that old interview where our hero Matt McMurphy said that if Jim Harbaugh's play calling was as creative as Urban Meyer's excuses, then Michigan would have three national championships, right?

The one guy who made these supposed threats public is Brett McMurphy.  And he's talking about threats on social media.

I liked college football a lot better back when Brett McMurphy was laid off from ESPN.

lol.  I keep typing "Matt McMurphy."  It's not like I ever heard of him before Courtney Smith started sharing her divorce file with him.

"Matt McMurphy" sounds sort of disrespectful, so I'll leave it the way it is.

I hope it doesn't deter McMurphy from unleashing hell when the time comes. I have to also add that this whole incident with the police that seem to have been covering for Smith and now these buckeye schmucks making threats is sad. I've seen too many damn times when people make threats and they end up acting on them. Someone gets killed or hurt bad. The police are sometimes notified but they do nothing because it's hearsay. Well when it's on the fucking internet, there should be criminal charges filed against these lunatics. The FBI can easily track these people right to their phone. Easy money in fines. Think of all the dumbass buckeye fans they could profit off of if Urban is booted. I don't know why they don't do it. Now, I might be a little crazy and extreme sometimes but I don't threaten people...ever. It's just things like these that are pathetic and need to be changed in society. It's stupid to let these clowns walk all over people. Oh and one more thing. One of my favorite sayings. So it ever was, so shall it ever be. In time, all foul things come forward. Truer words have never been typed. Come forward buckeye filth. Show your colors you gray scum.

Buckeyes get triggered by even the mention of their team, even when the message is neutral.  They lack reading comprehension.

I’m sure he was well aware he’d receive this when he broke this story. Comes with the territory of being a sports journalist.

Not saying it’s right, but it’s going to happen. There would be some Michigan fans who, would do this too if McMurphy broke a similar story about Harbaugh.
