Boomers Not Taking This Seriously
My Mother-in-law left Friday for Florida for three weeks with her sister to use her timeshare. They are 70 and will be 1000 miles from home with no support in what is likely the worst state in America to be in right now. This is despite their children begging them not to go.
I have heard from other friends that their Boomer parents are also not taking this as seriously as they should given a possible 6-10% death rate for that cohort. I know users of this blog are all ages, but lots of us have parents in that age group, are your parents taking this seriously?
Yes, outdoor exercise is still good as long as you don't get too close to other people, which you wouldn't biking solo. Some of the most popular parks here have been overrun recently with so many people walking around because they have too much time on their hands, so that's a little bit of a problem.
I've been staying 6 feet away from my Wife. Lucky that we can still have sex with eachother.
Get it?
I have an enormous penis! Which is a highly desirable trait.
72” is only average for a koala
Boomers?! What about boners?
By the looks of the Kroger and meijer stores they don’t. The average age when I’ve been in there is well into the 60’s. Couldn’t tell you about Walmart as I wouldn’t go there if they were giving away beer.
My boomer parents are hunkered down like Jesus is about to come back.
Mom is fine, staying at home and I'm here with her for now. BUT she gets worked up because her group chats full of other retirees are blowing up with unsubstantiated rumors, clickbait, fake news, BS stories, etc. Usually it's okay because the unfact-checked, attributed to no one in particular stories are harmless, about some guy whose car broke down in a blizzard and then a 3 legged elk led him to safety, turns out it was the same elk that raised him as an orphaned boy in the woods!
But now they are all fearfully sharing anything that comes their way: supplements, what foods to take (bananas, apparently), which guy they heard about caught the virus and then collectively playing detective where he's been, misinformation about what's available or will get shut down ("we need to go to Costco NOW!"), Trump is going to do this or that
"We need to fill out the Census questionnaire ASAP or we won't get our stimulus checks!" Mom, the census has nothing to do with that, and none of that's been decided yet anyway "But there's a link to the Government website! Why would they link to the census website then? It must be real!" Ok, let's fill it out...
"Hey there's masks under the sink, take some." Mom, we're at home, we're not going anywhere, but sure
"Take these wipes. The alcohol is over there" Um, alright, but we are locked up at home...
Many are low key terrified and look for any scrap of news to protect themselves, and spread those well-intentioned, baseless rumors amongst their friends, who are no longer on top of their cognitive game
I haven't seen anyone over 40 outside in a week. Maybe your inlaws are just idiots.
Where do you live? This is not consistent with anything I've seen or heard . . . anywhere.
Quarantine shaming, another beautiful thing the alarmists are doing these days.
I'd say my parents are taking it a lot more seriously than all the spring breakers.
The owners of this blog have allowed it to devolve into Cal-Berkeley mobs. No more of this place for me.
If you need me, I will be running my business and helping clients run theirs. Something the little socialists running around the forums would know nothing about.
I’m 38 so I’m not even a “boomer” but the fixation on age in the current cultural climate annoys me. I guess I’m on the fence of millennial and GEN X, but I was taught to respect my elders. The OK Boomer thing is played out in my opinion.

I do agree its thrown around a lot..... but the problem is serious.
A massive number of boomers are deluded and believe their views to almost always be correct.
Boomer Remover says it all.

New York, Washington & New Jersey would disagree with the statement that Florida is the the worst state to be in.
There's no magic in staying in a house in Michigan versus being in timeshare in Florida if you're following the same protocols in terms of social distancing. Data also suggests that transmission is less likely in warm, humiod climates.

The usual decent from OP topic into a mess of political sheep dip. This board has a consistent pattern of taking a topic and orbiting into biased bullshit.
The topic was about behavior of of an age segment, but had to spin into the political causes of their life choices?
This board has a hard-on to subject jump, ( CNN vs FOX) it gets fucking old.
