Birmingham Bowl Open Thread

Submitted by WolverineLake on

Gents -

The Birmingham Bowl is upon us!  The mighty ECU Fighting AAAARRRRS versus the Florida Gators.  I'm sure this would generally generate little interest, except there's no other football to watch and there will (hopefully) be an announcement soon after the game's conclusion that Michigan will be picking up a new DC, DJ "Dirty" Durkin.

How to watch, listen, and stream
Game time: January 3, 2015, noon ET
TV: ESPN
Radio: Florida and East Carolina affiliates courtesy of the respective programs
Online streaming: WatchESPN

The numbers Rankings and records: Florida enters the bowl 6-5, having had its season opener cancelled due to inclement weather. The Gators were 4-4 in the SEC. East Carolina finished the regular season 8-4, with a 5-3 record in the American Conference. Neither team is ranked.

Vegas: Florida is favored by 6.5 points, with the over/under at 56.

Weather forecast: The forecast for Birmingham looks chilly and rainy, with temperatures in the low 40s and a chance of rain.

delaney has gotten a good start with Detroit and new york.. and the music city to a lesser degree. I wouldn't mind teaming up with the Acc for another one of our mid level bowls somewhere in the midwest/mid atlantic area. maybe chicago, philly, dc, Boston? it's cold but these places are still much more desirable than a lot m of these random southern towns, and there are tons of alumni in the area that love the big ten visits. rutgers - unc and psu - bc were great match ups for barely qualified teams

If our Defense is anything like Florida's in 2015 i'll be very excited.

They're not a bend don't break - they just stop them, now.
I disliked bend don't break because the offense is always in bad field position.
This defense can stop the spread and power formations.

Durkin isn't going to want to field a bunch of questions about Michigan at the post-game presser, especially if Florida wins. It would be wrong to distract from the player's win. I'm guessing he is officially announced as our D-Coord on Monday or tomorrow at the earliest.

I'm torn. I want ECU to win... it's where I went to undergrad.

On the other hand, if Durkin and Florida's defense can stop ECU's air attack, I'll be geeked about our (Michigan's) future. Shane Carden is a beast. ECU is ranked 3rd in passing yards and 15th in points. That over/under of 56... ECU can cover most of that on a normal day.

Bad thing about watching recruiting more closely recently is all the names you recognize on other teams and are jealous. Prime example today...VHIII...sigh
