"So I says to myself, 'self,' says I, 'how do I really highlight how awful Purdue is?' And I thinks to myself that it isn't enough just to put 'em at the bottom a'the list. 'No,' I says to myself, 'to really do it all justice, I gotta invent a whole new category o' bad.' And that's what I do, and that's what I done." - Bill Connelly, probably

Bill C has been very bearish on Iowa all offseason. He had them as the 47th best team in the country last season and they were statistically one of the luckiest teams in college football. He sees them performing at about the same level they did last year, but with a harder schedule and less luck their record will come back down to earth.

teams are what may refer as very lucky, are some better than they think. one can be lucky a few times but not consistently... beathard must be the reason...if ferentz benched rudock for an unknown, well....

Pick  43 (Round 2, Pick 12) DT Austin Johnson
Pick  65 (Round 3, Pick 2)  DE Carl Nassib
Pick 202 (Round 6, Pick 27)  DT Anthony Zettel

They also lost a safety:

Pick 204 (Round 6, Pick 29)  S Jordan Lucas

And of course, they lost Hackenberg, so someone else is gonna have to play crash dummy behind that OL

Pick  51 (Round 2, Pick 20) QB Christian Hackenberg

Both MSU and OSU lost key players, but OSU recruiter better. Don't understand the ranking of OSU behind MSU. We should be in a tier of our own. I am a homer.

I trust OSU's ability (sadly) to replace vital players more than MSU's. For that, they should be flipped. Also sadly, I don't expect MSU to drop off to the MSU we've all known for the last half century. Their coach is a dick but he's good enough to make sure they won't fall to the lower or middle of the pack which was their rightful place for so many years. I also expect the reaction to this out of East Lansing (being picked behind us) to cause a shit storm and Dantonio to print it out and put it all over their training area and practice facility because, you know, disrespect.

OSU may be on the verge of a 5 year undefeated streak, but at the same time Urban was in a similar situation at UF where he recruited insanely well but as his coaching staff disintegrated and he had to keep bringing in new guys things began to fall apart. There's obviously no guarantee that anything like that will happen again but his team sure looked apathetic for the first 11 games of their season last year.

Let's pump our brakes. Until we beat State and OSU, we can't be considered in the first tier. We need to keep our sights on Hawaii and not look forward because we might lose focus. /s

I've said it before, i'm not accepting this "until we beat State" shit anymore.  We basically did beat those fuckers last year.  They needed the miracle of the millenium.  And last year is presumably going to be one of the weaker teams Harbaugh will have here. So that fucking gap has been closed between us and them.   Now OSU you have an argument about that we still have some work to do.  But the whole State argument is dumb to me.

I love that you think the team will lose focus if by using advanced stats you and I predict a Big Ten championship. I wish I could feel so engaged in the team. I'd probably be doing sit-ups right now instead of commenting on a blog. Edit: Wait can I just say I missed the whole /s thing at the bottom? I'll leave my original comment so I can have the negs I deserve.

Why does he think we lose so many people? We lose a QB, a FB, and a C on offense. A DL and our LBs and a S on defense. Is that really so much?

in modern history according to Five Thirty Eight.

Consider, for example, that although the Texas Longhorns had 17 players drafted in 1984, eight of those players were selected with the 180th pick or later; conversely, all 12 Ohio State players were selected in the first four rounds, with Jones being the last pick at number 139
