Not discounting Herbert as a top s&c coach.  But we got worked by Wisconsin Osu and Alabama in 2019…   2020 was a total disaster.   So while Herbert is a top s&c coach the buy in was not there!  And that’s a team culture thing.  The entire culture and environment changed when the new coaches came in and reset the culture and work ethic of the team.  No amount of Rah Rah changed that the year before.  It was the team leaders that changed it with the new coaches.

Don’t get me wrong, Herbert had the program annd guys were getting physically developed.  But it takes a lot more…MacDonald changed the perception of how much philosophy, 101 fundamentals and how much energy is needed in the program.  I think Hart and Moore on offense added so much here as well and our team led by the Head Coach selected the mentality on this team from there.

Chargers reporters and podcasts who listen to the whole interview and have spoken with many former Michigan players tout Ben Herbert as one of the main reasons for their success not to discount quality coaching, but that guy is a difference maker, or Jim would not have brought him to a NFL locker room

Impressive video.  Will miss Coach Herbert and have high hopes Coach Tress will keep strength and conditioning going at the high level attained by Michigan Football  the last few years.

I remember watching a video pre-season that showed his whole philosophy and where he talked at length about how his program operates. Dude impresses me every time I hear him.
