Bball vs Illinois game thred

What about this isn’t true? We are firmly in the bottom tier of teams in the standings. We continue to not have an identity or things we do well. We don’t value the basketball. We don’t play stellar defense. We don’t shoot particularly well. We are not tough. We ain’t very good.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:13 PM ^
Yikes. Unraveling right in front of our eyes.

our game, mayday-mayday-mayday:

When their coach is mad-eye Moody, things are going to happen.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:17 PM ^
Can’t wait for another year of this nonsense. Juwan is awful
January 18th, 2024 at 10:18 PM ^
Brad Underwood seems like he is enjoying coaching about as much as Lou Henson (or Gene Keady). Actually having trouble thinking of a coach who’s doesn’t seem like it might explode at any moment.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:32 PM ^
Gene Keady might have had the creepiest smile I have ever seen. His face just seemed to say "No, I am not happy, I'm going to kill someone tonight."
January 18th, 2024 at 11:31 PM ^
I remember as a student Keady had a very good looking wife. She would be at the games at Crisler.

You know if it was just a case of “not having the horses” I’d be able to accept some of this. Like in 2015 from January on where we had Dakich and Lonergen in the rotation, 6’6 Bielfeldt as our Center. That team at least competed and did the little things well.
The stagnant offense, no rebounding awareness at all, poor communication is just so evident. And to think, we have some players on this team.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:19 PM ^
It’s over. No chance this staff can fix this, I’ve seen Amaker and Ellerbe. This is the same, Beleins attention. To details made him unpopular in the NBA, but for college it’s so important, This staff is the opposite. Might work in the NBA but not here,
January 18th, 2024 at 10:21 PM ^
The announcing crew is annoying me more than the team - which is saying something…
January 18th, 2024 at 10:38 PM ^
Bardo is awful
January 18th, 2024 at 10:19 PM ^
Monday was just a gift from third base.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:19 PM ^
I have middle school kids who box out better than us
January 18th, 2024 at 10:21 PM ^
I really hope Dug doesn’t bolt. He’s the type of 4-year PG who can do special things senior year (I think of Frank Mason, Quinn Cook, Jalen Brunson).

a top 3 seed NIT ceiling will be tough to walk away from
January 19th, 2024 at 8:51 AM ^
This team isn't an NIT team
January 18th, 2024 at 10:24 PM ^
IMHO, those guys never turned it over like Dug does.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:24 PM ^
He already is as a sophomore, just doesn’t have enough help
January 18th, 2024 at 10:25 PM ^
You don'r cross Juwan, or else....
January 18th, 2024 at 10:23 PM ^
Any update on Harbaugh?
January 18th, 2024 at 10:24 PM ^
He’s not coaching the basketball team.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:26 PM ^
Can you make a thread on this news?
January 18th, 2024 at 10:23 PM ^
A 12 point lead hardly seems like a battle, but good on you!
January 18th, 2024 at 10:25 PM ^
I said in the other thread that I’d give Juwan the rest of the year. If the team could fight like they did against Ohio state, he’d probably deserve another year to right the ship.
this game suggests he doesn’t deserve that.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:31 PM ^
lol, Illinois is a top 15 team. Michigan wasn’t really ever winning this game.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:39 PM ^
Minus their best player
January 19th, 2024 at 6:25 AM ^
Its is pathetic that his defenders accept that there are multiple games you just know they won’t win.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:25 PM ^
Break down.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:31 PM ^
As Granny would say, pitiful, pitiful.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:32 PM ^
Would last person tonight please turn off the lights? Goodnight all.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:34 PM ^
This team reminds me of 2007; the 1982 team had some fight in them.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:35 PM ^
hope coleman hawkins can hit a few jazz bars in ann arbor before they leave town.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:35 PM ^
Positives are that Reed probably had his best game of the season. But woof. Not a good game
January 18th, 2024 at 10:36 PM ^
Sorry for my grammatical structure. That's a singular positive takeaway.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:35 PM ^
Not a terrible effort against a top 15 team. Just couldn’t stop their runs.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:36 PM ^
Another moral dub ;)
January 18th, 2024 at 10:36 PM ^
Please stop
January 18th, 2024 at 10:37 PM ^
Dude we know they are not good. But there were a few positives tonight. Illinois is good.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:39 PM ^
Yep, Juwan behaved
January 18th, 2024 at 10:44 PM ^
it's not that we have no talent - we actually do, though probably more modest than the illini. it's that we don't do the basics that johnny-Y-league can do like hustle and block out. that is coaching. that is heart. that is character. if our hoops team played like our football team we'd be a top 10 or top 15 team, pure and simple.
January 18th, 2024 at 11:45 PM ^
To me, maybe with that level of effort the lower rungs of the top 25 is their ceiling. This team would have to show up on top of their game lot more consistently. We saw a few days ago vs OSU a complete game out of this team.
But tonight it was 11-2 Illini before we finally hit our 2nd bucket at the 15:04 mark. We're not good enough to overcome that large of a deficit and finish a game against top 25 teams very often, especially a team as talented as Illinois. To me, they're what a rising ↑↑↑ top 10-15 squad looks like, what a well-coached hustling team looks like.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:37 PM ^
Terrence vs athletes is comical
January 18th, 2024 at 10:39 PM ^
Why even have a band if you're just going to play twenty year old hip hop at every break?
January 18th, 2024 at 10:39 PM ^
Layup drill yet again against Sadi’s D
January 18th, 2024 at 10:41 PM ^
Terrible rebounding all year. They always get outworked on the glass at both ends.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:42 PM ^
The lack of talent is frightening. OSU lost to this team, lol.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:46 PM ^
possible solitary crean sighting in row 3.
January 18th, 2024 at 10:48 PM ^
I wish I could be like some folks on this board and be all Joey Sunshine and give pats on the head and participation medals to a team and staff firmly at the bottom of the conference but I’m a realist. This is as bad as it’s been since Ellerbee. Maybe you can take solace in that they supposedly fought back tonight. But committing fouls to extend the game is hardly fighting back. How about not turning the ball over? Or perhaps not ball watching and instead box out with force? Juwan will probably get a couple more years to turn things around. But realistically I only see more of this. At the end of the day you are what your record says it is. And we’ve become cellar dwellers.
