As Ugly as this was I can say Im encouraged for the rest of the season...Tommorow withstanding this team is going to be Good..Castleton has made major improvement and once Wagner gets caught up and the rest  of the reliable cast we have the makings of a very good team...Assuming we play UNC We just have to be competitve..I dont expct a win but we need to be competitive and not  letthe whole North Carolina name get in their heads

It's early season, and we played a TON of guys today. First game for Franz, absurd number of turnovers, went deeeeeep down the bench - and we won!

Despite zillion TOs, Michigan looks confident and exciting on offense. Good ball movement and multiple weapons. We can score inside and out, and it looks like we have a bunch of guys who are capable of making shots late in the clock.

Addition of Franz gives us another deadly shooter - probably the element we needed most.

Another big win! Building a great resume early in the season.

Go Blue!

Overall I'm pleased. They turned the ball over an astounding amount of times and looked sloppy but never lost the lead or really had it in doubt.

Just clean up the turnovers.

Creighton and Iowa St are 2 good nonconference wins ..Both are probably NCAA tourney teams so good resume builders...If we can win 1 of the 2 next games Ill be feeling really good about the season...were looking at probably UNC and either Oregon and Seton Hall  all tourney teams and all 3 ranked

Excellent win but a lot to correct before tomorrow. TO have to be discussed. I like the you g talent. Dejulius is gonna be a great one and castleton looked good. Wagner needs more game time but he will be a legit player. Overall I love it. Go Blue!

It may have been covered already somewhere in these here comments however I feel confident it can be repeated. At what point does ax’s turnovers become enough of a problem for Coach Howard to make a point by sitting him for a stretch or at least a couple possessions.

It’s natural to assume that it’s been discussed, however it seems with each game his turnovers increase. He’s simply does not value each possession right now. Coach B’s turnover adverse approach led to more shots with a slower tempo. He’s giving away possessions by trying to make highlight passes at times. What good is a faster tempo if you don’t get the extra shots because of turnovers.

Howard LOVES Simpson - he gushes about him in every interview.

Z has been sloppy with the ball in these early games, but he's also done a great job running a new offense and incorporating a large cast of characters.

Benching the veteran leader you absolutely need to stay confident doesn't seem like a good move.

Dude is a baller. It's early, he'll be fine.

I agree Cube, and that's just one more reason I'm so impressed with Howard so far.

He's quickly made this team his own, yet is humble and smart enough to realize he's still new at his job. Not afraid to rely on his experienced assistants and even players (Simpson in particular).

What a great start to his head coaching career!

Michigan is better than I thought they would be at this point. When Franz is comfortable and fully integrated, the offense will be really deep and dangerous.

It's great to see Franz on the court, but his early absence may be a blessing in disguise.

DDJ's emergence as a scoring threat and confident court presence gives this team a much-needed additional weapon.

With Franz, Teske, Livers and DDJ we have a strong core of weapons for Simpson to detonate. Add to that a deep bench of pretty solid contributors and you've got a dangerous team.

Good win, but the turnovers are an issue.  I cannot remember the last time we turned it over 22 times in a game.

I like what I saw from Franz and DeJulius is starting to get in the groove and is taking the step up from last year.

Also, nice minutes by Castleton and Davis off the bench.  They held the fort down while Teske was in foul trouble.

There is an extra edge Detroit guards have. Walton had it, Cassius has it, and so does DDJ. It’s a confidence that can’t be taught. DDJ’s emergence could be a difference between a first weekend team and a team that can go deep.

The depth is really encouraging right now. Castleton is not the defensive player Teske is, but he brings enough on offense to be a more than viable backup 5. Johns’ athleticism and length is good for backup at the 3/4, DDJ can play starters minutes depending on how Brooks is doing. Nunez can give a few good minutes and is a good shooter. Austin Davis came in today and had some real good minutes. We are legitimately 9/10 guys deep.

We might have something here.

That was a really good win. Ton of stupid turnovers, Teske limited by fouls ... and they still beat a pretty good P5 team by 7. Overcame problems and found a way to win. I'll take that every day.

Good win, but 22 turnovers in a game will lose us plenty of contests in the future. That’s an Izzo/MSU number of turnovers and a steep departure from what we’re used to under Beilein.

31 bench points , 58 % shooting , and 10-21 from three negated the 22 turnovers . DDJ helped hide simpson’s 8 turnovers . Simpson needs to quit leaving his feet on passes and get back to moving his feet on d and quit reaching in . Very disappointed with teske’s effort today . Not even trying to attempt to block and shot or alter  the shooter on the switch with a hand up . He could have dunked the ball twice on the block but got blocked twice and a weak layup off the glass attempt ! Our seniors need to get that fire back
