basketball up to #2 in ESPN power rankings

Title says it all . . . Michigan is up to #2 in basketball power rankings, behind only Duke. Assume we'll be at 3 or 4 in AP and Coach's poll when it comes out. Should stay about the same until we beat Wisconsin on the road. (which would be huge. That place has been a house of horrors over the years.)

It will be a complete joke if Tennessee is still ahead of Michigan, but I think UVA should be ahead of M right now, especially after they looked more impressive beating South Carolina on the road than M did at home.

M should be third, but could make an argument for second as well.  Fourth or lower would be criminal.

But according to the "BPI" published by ESPN, Michigan is 11th, even though they have the # 1 Strength of Record (SOR).

Notable teams ahead of them:  North  Carolina (with 3 losses and got smoked by Michigan), VA Tech (10-1 with a Strength of Schedule at 185), Michigan State and Wisconsin each with 2 losses.

So did signing day.

After a down 2017 and a down 2018 signing class, concern about the program trajectory was natural.

2018 had us regaining program momentum, until that thing happened.  But the fear that getting smoked would have a significant impact on the future was unfounded.

Dabo Sweeney managed to bootstrap his Clemson program into the Top Two after spending a significant number of years where Harbaugh has the Michigan program now.

Just keep winning, everything else will take care of itself. So many are being so critical of their play against these lower tier teams, but they've kept their focus and kept winning. The polls and tournament seeding well reward their efforts.

We won’t learn anything new about this team until they play Wisconsin. Michigan is elite (so far), but they won’t have an opportunity to climb higher in the polls until that game.

I think that game is their first loss, but if they win in Madison, all bets are off.
