Had a tough sched. this year. But I put that in a different thread already. Had us as #3 hardest.

Is this a reflection of the defenses in our conference or the offenses?
November 6th, 2019 at 8:35 PM ^
Both....?
November 6th, 2019 at 8:52 PM ^
The only offenses with worse numbers than all of those B1G teams mentioned than M are....
MSU & Iowa
November 7th, 2019 at 7:27 AM ^
Just remember this simple rule:
Because it is the Big 10, it is a poor reflection on the shitty offenses. When the SEC has multiple teams in these lists, it is because SEC SPEEEED results in elite defenses.

BOOM! NARRATIVED!
November 6th, 2019 at 8:36 PM ^
Can we get some stats as to how opposing defenses are doing against Nico Collins?
November 6th, 2019 at 8:39 PM ^
November 6th, 2019 at 8:48 PM ^
That's easy:
>1
November 6th, 2019 at 9:56 PM ^
Your “less than” sign is backwards
November 6th, 2019 at 11:00 PM ^
There aren't any...if there were they would have been posted on the board.
November 7th, 2019 at 4:07 AM ^
Good, if we don’t throw him the ball. Bad, if we do.
November 6th, 2019 at 8:42 PM ^
This is just statistical proof that by and large, B1G QBs are shit.
November 6th, 2019 at 8:54 PM ^
Seem to remember 3 of them being on the preseason Heisman watch list. Not so much now.
November 6th, 2019 at 9:17 PM ^
That Heisman watch list is guys expected to watch the show on ESPN from home
November 6th, 2019 at 10:39 PM ^
Hate to say it....except for fields.
November 7th, 2019 at 11:15 AM ^
Unpopular opinion, Fields hasn’t even been that good. But it just goes to show what an offense that gets elite speed/talent in space can do for a QB’s numbers. Haskins was similar last year.
November 6th, 2019 at 8:43 PM ^
B1G offenses pale in comparison to those in other conferences. These rankings are somewhat flawed.
November 6th, 2019 at 8:57 PM ^
These are statistics. Not rankings.
November 6th, 2019 at 11:55 PM ^
That's because the other conferences don't have the great defenses like the Big 10.
November 7th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
Other conference defenses pale in comparison to B1G defenses. So their offenses put up more yards. Works both ways bud.
November 6th, 2019 at 9:27 PM ^
When you Don Brown.....
So...what was the deal with the Nico Trick or Treat thing?
November 6th, 2019 at 9:28 PM ^
For fun. B1G total offense rankings.
6. OSU
32. Indiana
47. Minnesota
52. PSU
62. Wisconsin
66. Nebraska
81. Iowa
82. Michigan
86. Maryland
89. Purdue
108. Sparty
114. Illinois
126. Rutger
128. Northwestern
Now you know why we have so many “great” defenses.
November 6th, 2019 at 9:51 PM ^
Iowa has a "top half of the conference" offense! Yikes!
November 6th, 2019 at 11:02 PM ^
I didn't think any team could be worse than rutger. Congrats to Northwestern.
November 7th, 2019 at 12:26 AM ^
Or...now we know why we have bad offenses. Chicken/Egg
November 7th, 2019 at 11:18 AM ^
Or those offenses are ranked so low because they have to go against top defenses...
November 6th, 2019 at 9:47 PM ^
Meaningless
W-L only stat that matters.
November 6th, 2019 at 9:49 PM ^
It might have been the #1 hardest if IU's starting QB wasn't out for the year...
November 6th, 2019 at 11:03 PM ^
Yep. IU is Penixless.
November 7th, 2019 at 12:23 AM ^
Sounds painful.
November 7th, 2019 at 8:57 AM ^
HIs backup was the starter last year and is pretty damn good too though.
November 6th, 2019 at 9:52 PM ^
Yards per game (and points per game) stats are heavily influenced by tempo, to the point of being almost meaningless. And, without adjusting them for the opponent either... I mean, yay? But, I think I'd take Michigan's defense over UAB's, and I haven't seen a single moment of UAB football this year.
November 6th, 2019 at 10:47 PM ^
why the hell does osu have to be good on D too
November 7th, 2019 at 7:20 AM ^
OSU bagmen pay for the best....
November 6th, 2019 at 11:17 PM ^
I wonder if anyone will ever try to hire Bill Clark away from UAB. He has done some remarkable things with that program.
November 6th, 2019 at 11:33 PM ^
Defensive yards/play allowed vs FBS adjusted by opponent:
1. Clemson - 3.89
2. Ohio state - 4.01
3. Wisconsin - 4.08
4. Michigan - 4.32
5. Auburn - 4.34
6. Utah - 4.41
7. Pittsburgh - 4.58
8. Georgia - 4.58
9. Penn State - 4.65
10. Michigan State
13. Minnesota - 4.85
18. Iowa - 4.90
32. Northwestern - 5.20
63. Indiana - 5.58
73. Illinois - 5.81
79. Nebraska - 5.84
91. Purdue - 6.07
103. Rutgers - 6.33
113. Maryland - 6.52

Auburn YPP at #5 is fairly impressive since they've already played Oregon and LSU. The matchup with Alabama on 11/30 should be interesting.
November 7th, 2019 at 1:57 AM ^
Well, it's adjusted by opponent. They didn't have to be world-beaters against Oregon or LSU; they just had to do better than other teams have been able to do.
These are much better indicators of defensive strength. Note the lack of UAB.
November 7th, 2019 at 7:22 AM ^
I do think Clemson at #1 is a bit of a false positive since their FBS competition has mostly been garbage.
November 7th, 2019 at 8:59 AM ^
I’d agree. The opponent adjustment helps, but there just isn’t enough cross pollination between common opponents to really filter out all the noise in the data.
November 7th, 2019 at 12:52 AM ^
Defense wins championships. Except when you play against an offense with a pulse. B1G offenses outside of OSU are not so good.
November 7th, 2019 at 10:05 AM ^
It's both. The big ten doesn't have elite qb's and only one is playing at an elite level and a couple playing good the rest are avg qb's till you get to 10-16 teams in the league and it gets flat ugly when you get to Rutgers and Northwestern. So while the big ten is playing really good defense, they aren't facing elite qb's week in and week out and when they do, it's not like they are shutting them down.
