B1G lacrosse programs establish Creator's Trophy

What the headline says.

University of Michigan men's lacrosse head coach John Paul announced in conjunction with his counterparts at Ohio State (Nick Myers) and Penn State (Jeff Tambroni) the establishment of the Creator's Trophy, which will be an annual award among the three Big Ten schools that sponsor men's lacrosse.
A team that earns a 2-0 record against the other programs will take ownership of the trophy each spring and have its name and the year inscribed. If all teams earn a 1-1 record then no team or year will be recorded on the trophy and it will reside with the most recent team to win it outright. Following each game, a player of the game from the winning team will be selected.

Ohio is a conference rival at the moment, but Penn State is not - they play in the CAA.  But this essentially cements a nonconference game against PSU every year, as if we didn't mostly expect that already.  A neat idea.

I would give Penn State a slight edge over Ohio this year, but it shouldn't be long before U-M is competitive with these two schools.  I think by 2014 - the program's third year - we could be in contention for this thing.

Terrific! I love the seeds being planted for a B1G Lacrosse conference being born a decade down the road when NW and 2 other teams add men's lacrosse!!

I haven't been to a lacrosse match since the Joe Louis days but for some reason I see this being one of my second favorite sports at Michigan. Does anyone have a guess on where the future home games will be played (Big House, Osterbann, or another venue)? It would be great to hangout at the Big House a couples of times every spring. I don't know how much sense this will make if the crowds are too small.

Michigan will play their home games at Michigan Stadium. Home games in "cold weather months" (Feb & March) will be played at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse. From what I've been told, their are plans being developed for a Lacrosse-only indoor stadium that will seat around 6,000. Once that is built, Michigan's home will obviously be played their with the traditional Battle in The Big House against a rival at Michigan Stadium. Dave Brandon also said that if Michigan hosts an NCAA Tournament Regional, it will be at The Big House.

A lacrosse field is much, much bigger than a hockey rink, so visually, 6,000 indoors will look pretty teensy.  The field will dwarf the grandstands.  But that's the right size to aim for.  Remember, they're not building it for the 2012 crowds, they're building it for the 2025 crowds.  6,000 would generally be below the capacities for the elite teams, but not by a lot, so it's a good target.

I'd like it to be retractable-roof, but I might be asking a lot.

I really like that Brady Hoke started calling OSU "Ohio" - I initially saw it as an interesting quirk and a way to stir up the rivalty. Although I was pretty indifferent about everyone using Ohio instead of Ohio State, I think it's starting to get out of hand.

I know that this article is about M, OSU, and PSU, but was I the only one who reread the first sentence after the block quote because it said Ohio instead of Ohio State? This wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that there really is a school called Ohio, especially when we're talking about a sport where they might actually have a solid program. (Turns out they don't.)

I don't have enough points to start a thread anymore, but I think "Ohio" thing is starting to jump the shark when we use it every time we refer to OSU - particularly in a news article and not an opinion piece. It's starting to remind me of the way every RCMB poster will use scUM instead of just UM.

Am I alone on this? And this isn't meant as a knock on the OP, but it was a bit confusing.

You're not alone, but you and I might be. I think using "Ohio" is fucking idiotic, petty, juvenile, stupid, arrogant, annoying, and beneath us. People who act respectfully toward their opponents and display good sportsmanship don't do things like this. People who respect that the sports teams are representatives of institutions of higher learning, and not the other way around, don't do this.

But, the people seem to like it, so what can you do?

You're probably not alone, but.... I'm still gonna use it.  It's less juvenile than "scUM" (and less ripped off, too, since UF and FSU use it as well), it's a good way to pay homage to our coach the same way Ohio fans pay homage to Woody with "TSUN", I hardly ever talk about Ohio U., and - this is kind of the key thing - "Ohio" is faster to type than "Ohio State" or "OSU."  Half the time when I'm aiming for OSU, I get OSY instead.

Besides, you gotta admit that it's way preferable to "tsio."

Anyone know were to get Michigan lacrosse gear? (I.e. Jerseys) Mden doesn't seem to have anything other than tees and hats from what I can find thus far.

I asked MDen and I did not get a reply yet. They usually reply to me relatively fast since I'm probably one of their most frequent customers. Either they're in the works or they won't be sold this season.

I REALLY want one of these Maize beauties.
