The atmosphere at MSG sounds electric on TV - how is it in person?

Submitted by karpodiem on

It damn near sounded like a home game at MSG yesterday - well done to all those who attended. How is it in person? Any YouTube videos to share?

I was supposed to fly from DTW to LGA Friday morning, but my flight was cancelled. Delta offered to fly me out 1:45 later that day, but I would have had to go to Madison, then Minneapolis, finally arriving at LGA at midnight. I would have returned to DTW on Sunday morning, so it wouldnt have been worth it with all the delays. Naturally, the team progressed to the finals - while I'm super bummed to not be there, it's been awesome to watch on TV.

On an Amtrak train now headed to the game from Maryland. Will let you know.

Can’t imagine there will be any Purdue fans. They don’t tend to leave the state.

On TV, I heard plenty of MSU fans for their nail biter against Wisconsin. But yesterday, it sounded about even until the last several minutes of the game when it became glorious. I'm glad our fans held their own because I didn't want to hear 'go green, go white' for two hours. MSU fans were the main topic on 97.1 this morning. They were debating whether the fans were chanting 'Hitler,' or 'Victor,' to Wagner.

Honestly chanting "Victor" might even be dumber than chanting "Hitler" a) I'm sure Moe doesn't care because it's his name b) it's a compliment because of what Victor means and c) Michigan is known for calling themselves Victors.

While "Hitler" is classless and quite unoriginal, it at least has a chance of getting under his skin to yield the desired result. Both are stupid, so I could see either possibility but "Victor" might be too dumb even for them.

... but subdued green. Very subdued.

Did see some Purdue fans, but have to think they'll be much fewer than Blue backers.

Also, the Big Ten / Michigan gear for sale is really thin, chintzy and disappointing.

But all around a great time.

Someone explain to me how we can get 8000 Michigan fans at MSG but we can’t sellout every home game at Crisler. When we sell the place out it’s one of the toughest places to play in the country I just wish Michigan fans would come support the basketball team more often they actually deserve it. All we need is 12,000 that’s it that’s all we’re asking for

It just boggles my mind that we can get 100,000 at the big house against Indiana with a 5-5 record but we can’t sellout a game against Iowa with a 20-7 record a top 25 ranking and tickets selling for 15 bucks on stubhub. We need to make basketball a bigger priority. Crisler only seats 12,000 and if you take out the students you only 10,000 loyal fans that’s it

I was at that Iowa game.  WIth mgoblue.com selling the tickets for 9 bucks why pay 15 to StubHub.  It was Valentine's Day and I did have to make sure going wasn't grounds for a divorce.

The crowd today should be great.  It will draw M fans from throughout the Amtrak corridor.

It was electric in person as well. I was actually surprised by the number of MSU fans, there were a ton (and a fair number of random other B1G fans too). Before the game and at the start of the game they definitely seemed louder than us, the Go Green Go White chants were very annoying. It was very satisfying to see the Michigan fans assert their dominance as the game progressed, just like the team.

I was there yesterday and headed out soon for today's game. I was also surprised at how many State fans were there. I was expecting it to be a mostly maize and blue crowd. Electric works but is not the first word I would use to describe the atmosphere inside MSG. My word would be intense. You could feel the intensity of the game on the court and in the stands. It was a great day.

Student section has been a lot of fun. For the first 2 games anybody not M affiliated would leave the section 417 we are in because everyone is rowdy and loud and MSG was pretty empty. Yesterday some sparty fans complained and ushers were around all game making us sit. It's a shame as it's a student section that just didn't fill up. But with 30ish rowdy students, its been loud and wild. A little gogreen gowhites but Lets Go Blue was overpowering by the end. Here's to another W to cap off the last game I probably will see before I become alum in may.

There were LET'S GO BLUE chants echoing throughout MSG twice yesterday that were amongst the loudest I've ever heard at Michigan sporting event...at any venue. It was truly amazing!

I heard a lot of booing after the game when the Michigan band played the fight song. If I didn’t know better I might go so far as to say they hate us.

It’s been a good atmosphere, just like it was in dc when I was there last year. Moving the schedule up a week was dumb but nyc has a ton of alumni, it’s not surprising at all it’s been well attended except to anyone who wanted to convince themselves it should never lead the Midwest
