And I downvoted the OP for said offense. However, I read the article and then changed it to an upvote because that was an amazing read. The best part was definitely when the author writes, "blog posts involving “parallax errors" signifying that the author reads Mgoblog. As a previously objective person who ended up becominga Michigan fan in the last year, I guarantee the author is a very intelligent person :)

I always enjoyed her writing on Grantland, somehow I am still getting used to going to the ringer to good long articles. It's always good to have support of someone that writes for a major sports website. Especially this week when we need it.

I have realized why so many college coaches are tyrannical loons: So much can come down to one tiny detail; a whole season of precision can be undone by one bounce here or there. It’s excruciating and irresistible.

To me, that's also what makes many of the coaches who are actively involved in the strategy, if not the playcalling, some of the best at being able to mitigate the chance that anything is overlooked, even though ultimately you cannot control, say, the bounce of the ball or the direction of a play once the ball is snapped, things which can destroy CFP chances potentially.

A 43 year old HC with an appearance in the National Championship game who in the 3 season prior to this one finished on average #10 in the country gets fired after 4 seasons.

And then we wonder why these guys lose their sanity or do/say things out of character because of the stress.

It was fluffier than a cumulus cloud made of vanilla mousse, but still worth a read.  I liked this (describing the author's attempts to find a team about which she could muster a shit to give):

Out of allegiance to my home state, I faithfully spend a few minutes each September wondering if maybe Rutgers will be any good, or even interesting, this time around. The answer is reliably no.

Not the fluff that bleacher report and ESPN produce mainly where the author has no real connection with what they are writing about and are only searching for clicks. This is a good article, and I think fluff implies very little research and thought going into an article. I thought this article was significantly better than most of what you find out there nowadays. Maybe I have the wrong idea of fluff(someone let me know if I do), but to me it seems like we shouldn't call good writing "fluff" out of respect for the author.

Since you note that you may have the wrong idea about "fluff" I strongly suggest that you Google-search the word "fluffer".  Preferably from a work computer.  All will become clear ... .

That aside, when I use the word "fluff" here*, I mean that the substance of the article is not particularly deep.  You're not likely to learn a lot from reading the article, but it is enjoyable all the same.  That shouldn't be taken as a slight - it's not easy to write good fluff.

*Much like Humpty Dumpty's use of words, some might say.  They're wrong, but some might say it anyway.

I have been very underwhelmed by their stuff so far; their NBA stuff is just OK (to be fair: Zach Lowe is the best sportswriter going, so that hurt the Grantland-level hopes from the start), the NFL stuff isn't worth the click, and their politics stuff has been predictable and sub par. I haven't even seen anything particularly interesting culteral stuff, which has been the biggest suprise.

Their College Foorball has been, in my view, the best stuff on the Ringer so far.

Katie Baker was one of the very best parts of the old site, though, so I still have some hope it will come around. Simmons was always going to have trouble matching Lowe, Barnwell, Baker, Rembert Browne, Brian Curtis, Molly Lambert, Alex Pappademas, Andy Greenwald, Jonah Keri, Holly Anderson ... damn, that roster was LOADED.

Katie Baker is the best and she is hands down my favorite hockey writer.  Having her as an adopted Michigan fan is a great thing(would love to get her take on the hocky program or even on college hockey in general).

Good article.  Thanks for linking.

She’s almost there, but this: “I’ve faithfully tuned in to Wolverines games just about every Saturday.”

Needs to become this: “I’ve faithfully tuned in to Wolverines games every Saturday.”

What’s this “just about” crap?
