Don't fall for the banana in the tailpipe. I don't see how this is the important issue right now.
Worst case it is some minor NCAA violation.

This was always a big plot hole in Beverly Hills Cop. Everyone knows potatoes work WAY better in tailpipes...
August 23rd, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
In Soviet Russia, you put tailpipe in potato!
August 23rd, 2018 at 4:17 PM ^
In Soviet Russia, tailpipe puts banana in you.

I think that's called a Borscht Blaster.
August 23rd, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
but the symbolism of a banana is more visceral than a potato
August 23rd, 2018 at 5:34 PM ^
Yes sir, we’ve got a nice fruit basket right over there with fresh apples, oranges bananas and potatoes.
August 23rd, 2018 at 7:26 PM ^
Ya but you forget Foley was at the hotel and there was only a “fruit Plate” available from Damon Wayans... lol
no potatoe on the fruit plate boys! Great movie scene!

I think Eddie Murphy falls for bananas in his tailpipe.

It's not actually an NCAA violation for coaches/players over 18 or 21 to go to strip clubs, is it? They're not illegal.
August 23rd, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
I was reading they were taking HS coaches for potential recruits, that could be.
August 23rd, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
Yeah the article goes into detail and I didn't do a great job in the OP explaining. They took high school coaches with them. Not a MAJOR violation, but will be some questions that will be asked down at UT.
August 23rd, 2018 at 3:51 PM ^
Why is it an NCAA violation? I think these are the questions to answer:
Is it because that was an inducement of a HS coach while recruiting? If so, when does - for example - a restaurant meal or strip club experience qualify as an inducement? And if the answer is always, was this $600 tab just for Zach or for the whole table?
Even if you get to question #3 and predict it was for the whole table, I seriously doubt the NCAA (even if it were trying its hardest with the power it has) will ever find that evidence.
August 23rd, 2018 at 3:51 PM ^
Slap on the wrist and a minor recruiting violation. Then life goes on.
August 23rd, 2018 at 3:56 PM ^
My bad for the post and not being clear (since I can't edit). Violation is because they took high school coaches. Not a huge violation by any means.
August 23rd, 2018 at 3:57 PM ^
The strip club thing is the least offensive of Zach Smith’s conduct.
August 23rd, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
Would it not be osu they go after? Maybe I’m missing something but it happened while at osu so wouldn’t it be osu who is in trouble?
August 23rd, 2018 at 4:09 PM ^
This is a gigantic nothingburger. While I haven't been to a strip club in many, many years, I have fond memories of them and coming home to my girlfriend covered in glitter and the smell of vanilla body spray. Good times, good times...
August 23rd, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
Clowns wear vanilla body spray?
August 23rd, 2018 at 4:31 PM ^
Paying to get HS coaches laid is a nothingburger?
August 23rd, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
Did it say that in the article, or are you just assuming that all strippers are whores and all strip clubs just glorified whore houses?
August 23rd, 2018 at 4:54 PM ^
Yes, all strip clubs are glorified whore houses.
August 23rd, 2018 at 9:16 PM ^
Sex sells bruh....

So, Tom Herman was accused by countless Buckeye fans as being the “whistleblower”. Later, the “Investigative Report” slanted with opinions of “Urban Meyer and Gene Smith acting in Good Faith” and “not believed to be intentionally lying” is used as basis to reinstate Meyer pending a 3-game suspension. Tom Herman later implicated in potential NCAA violations conducted with OSU fall guy and rogue employee Zach Smith. Interesting....
Retaliation perhaps?
August 23rd, 2018 at 5:41 PM ^
I don’t understand why it mattered if he was the whistleblower or not. Either the abuse story is legit or it isn’t - it shouldn’t make a difference who tipped off McMurphy.
August 23rd, 2018 at 4:55 PM ^
What about this is an NCAA violation? If they used their own money and didn't pay for high school coaches stuff its not a violation.
August 23rd, 2018 at 5:10 PM ^
doubt it was their own money on a recruiting trip. i would think it's likely all expenses were reimbursed.
August 23rd, 2018 at 5:04 PM ^
Remember. OSU has the LARGEST COMPLIANCE DEPARTMENT IN THE COUNTRY after Cheaty McSweater Vest went down. That's a no show job I would love to have.
August 23rd, 2018 at 5:24 PM ^
You know, I was wondering about this - clearly this is a well-staffed department at OSU every Wednesday and sometimes on Friday morning when there isn't too much going on in Facilities Maintenance.
August 23rd, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
Do they employ anyone with value at OSU. Where do they find these people? Geez... Talk about a team that needs a overhaul.
August 23rd, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
Why is a strip club a violation ? Is it illegal for coaches but yet not for the rest of the populace?
August 23rd, 2018 at 9:57 PM ^
Apparently they took high school coaches of players they were recruiting.
August 23rd, 2018 at 6:06 PM ^
Sadly, football coaches : strip clubs :: peanut butter : jelly
August 23rd, 2018 at 7:22 PM ^
Herman at worst will get a minor slap on the wrist. Beyond that, I doubt anything will stick. Right now, he's the savior of the Longhorns (and may well deliver on it).
