Anyone else sick?

Submitted by Commie_High96 on March 21st, 2020 at 8:19 PM

I had a fever, cough and achy body Wednesday, have been on and off with what I would describe as a “mid-level cold” but certainly not bad enough to qualify for testing.  Hoping down the road an antibodies test is available to see if this is or is not the Covid.

anyone else out there in this limbo where you are obviously sick but not really badly sick?

Just had to put my baby girl to sleep last night.  Hardest part about owning a dog is saying goodbye.

And yes, she probably had some cancer.  Mass on the spleen, fluid on the heart and abdomen, possible mass on the heart, at 11 years old it wasn't fair to her to try put her through a bunch of invasive procedures that probably wouldn't make a difference.

My wife is quite certain it went through my family a month ago. If it wasn't Coronavirus, it was quite a nasty cold because we all tested negative for influenza.

Now, if someone could develop a titers test, we could determine whether the virus has already been here and how many people it has infected already.

I believe that I had it.  I am obviously not sure, but I would wager on it.  It was not severe, but it felt foreign, like my body wasn’t sure exactly what it was dealing with.  I had a fever and what I would describe as a general discomfort in my chest, when coughing, swallowing, anything.  It lasted about 48 hours and then broke.  This would have been mid-February.

https://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20200114/is-it-flu-or-flu-like-its-miserable-either-way

“Flu-like illness can include other respiratory viruses that could make people feel that way -- common cold viruses, RSV, parainfluenza, even rhinovirus -- the most common cause of the common cold,” says Angela Campbell, MD, a medical officer in the CDC’s Flu Division in Atlanta. “All can cause symptoms similar to the flu.”

No, but it is a really unfortunate time to have a kid who has developed a “habit-cough” throat clearing thing.

Not the greatest timing there.

Thanks. I really don’t know what I’m gonna do. I’m scared shitless. Anxiety through the roof. It’s my job to provide for my family, and I currently don’t see the path forward. Mostly in a haze the last couple days.

You are going to have a few weeks here where you are spaced out wondering you are going to do, feeling defeated and like you are failing your family, and then you are going to realize that your family thinks the world of you for just being you, and you are going to pull yourself by your bootstraps, realize none of this is your fault, and take control of the situation and make it happen.  That’s what you are going to do.  Hang in there.  The sun will come out again.

Feeling for you friend.  I’ve been down that road before. I’m not sure your background but hospitals are hiring.  If you’re in NC check Atrium Health & Novant.  If they’re anything like many hospital systems across the US they will gladly train you on the job.  Apply for jobs that look interesting to you, even if you don’t think you’re qualified.   Best of luck to you!

Early last Monday morning until the evening I had body ache, severe chills, cough and migraine, but just as fast as it hit me it left. Youngest son (3mo) has had  a pretty severe case of Croup since Monday and is finally tiring the corner. Oldest son (6yr) is good but has a slight cough. Mom is good thank god.

Thank goodness (knock on wood) my wife, our little one, and I have all been good as of late.

In January though I had the strangest and most miserable stretch of winter sickness I have ever had. I had what I assumed was the flu for a week (temperature topped at 103.8, body aches were awful), that was followed by a 2 1/2 week dry cough, and that finally ended with an ear infection where thankfully there wasn’t much ear pain, but I probably only had 10% of my hearing for two weeks. Now I doubt it was COVID-19, but I will say it was like something I’ve never experienced

Had a mixture of low grade fever, chills, fatigue, mild cough, and lots of congestion on and off for the past week after I got back from London on the 9th. Also not bad enough to get tested, so who knows. Bad enough not to leave the house, though.

I can add to the list that in mid-January I got a bug that was worse than any other I've had in the last 11 years (I get sinus shit every year so I do get sick at least once a year) which, coincidentally was also right before Swine flu hit in '09.  Fever and feeling like shit for 3.5 days.  Chest gunk but never truly bad, just an overall blah and shitty body feeling.

I think my entire family had back in December.  I had pretty much all the symptoms mentioned, except for a little flu poo.  I fainted for the first time in my life.  Overall, it was the sickest I've been in many years, but it was manageable.  Took about 3 weeks to shake.

While I didn't get tested for anything at the time, who knows what it was.  But my dad was in China the month before and we just recently started to piece it all together.

Zero chance?!  Did you read the part that my dad just got back China the week before and we all got the same thing over the course of a couple weeks. My mom, dad, wife, me. Did I mentioned my wife spent time in the hospital to address it?

I think I was pretty clear: I never said I definitely had it.  And your last sentence makes no sense.

Yes, it’s about a zero chance. If you had this in December you and your family would have spread this everywhere, and someone close to you would likely be dead from it. The R0 on this is fairly high and by going to the hospital, and without anyone knowing what this was, you’d be looking at an outbreak on the scale of what they saw in Washington state.

I’m not saying you weren’t sick or even very sick, but you were not likely patient zero.

My coworker, who was skiing in Summit County last weekend where there was a small outbreak, has symptoms and tested negative for the flu. We (himself included) think he has Covid but he can't get a test.

And he's trying to come back to work after roughly a week, citing the CDC reducing their quarantine period down from 14 days.

I'm going to kick him in the nuts if he comes back to work next week.
