Any word on Raymon Taylor or Jabrill Peppers??

Submitted by Perd Hapley on
I was wondering if anyone had any news on if Raymon and Jabrill would be active today. From what I have bean reading it sounds like Miami is somewhat pass heavy and I would be surprised if they tried to run much against us with our front 7. I feel like with one or both of those guys healthy Michigan will run away with this game early. If not they may be able to hang around for a while and make my Saturday afternoon a bit more stressful than it needs to be. Any thought or news on jury's today? How do you think our DBs will hold up today?

The direction Peppers took that shot, it looked llke a high ankle sprain, so I doubt we see him on the field until the Big Ten season.  Those take at least 3-4 weeks to heal and then the ankle area still remains stiff until you get acupuncture.

Sam just made a long post defending Devin Gardner among other things.

$$:

"I think it’s ridiculous to think about changing the quarterback two weeks in, but Josh is entitled to his opinion and we don’t censor staff opinions here to fit a narrative.

My take on it is Devin’s poor play (which a broke down in vivid detail here and on the radio) really emerged when the team was down 21-0. It doesn’t excuse it, but it does give it context. "

Goes on to say that 2 games into a season with a new OC is not big enough of a sample size to bench DG.  The rest of the post is even more interesting.  Talks about how he has to have more respect in his critiques because of his access.  He has been called in by Carr, RR, and Borges to talk about his different critiques of the team.

I was more talking about Kyle and Josh. Josh is the one who made the long post about DG getting benched. Then Kyle came on and backed them up. Just seemed out of line and classless. Sam is the best in the biz when it comes to Michigan football and basketball recruiting/news. He's first class and always does things the right way. Kyle and Josh could learn a couple things.

most of that.  I do respect Scout for letting them post their opinions without worrying about it fitting a particular narrative.  More than I can say for Rivals evidenced by them no longer having Jonathan Chait write for them.

I started wondering about DG being our QB after the ND game last year.... And by season end I was one of those screaming for him to be benched. So I guess I am sort of "one of those types" But, to be fair, regardless of who plays today, this game won't tell us much about where we are with the mental side of playing QB. Physical talent we are set. Both DG and Shane have the talent. It's now all about the head game. The argument is, it's more "understandable" for Shane making mistakes (playing time, years in prgm, etc..)...DG is out of excuses being A 5th yr senior with a full year of starting experience.. Let's hope one or both get their head together and take control of the offense with confidence

Out of excuses? How about being on his 3rd offensive coordinator and playing 2/3rds of a season at WR?  He's not without fault and we'll see how he does the rest of this season, but thinking that a true freshman (last year) or a true sophomore (this year) is going to be an upgrade is just craziness.  We've seen Shane play, he has a lot of potential, but he's no where near ready for primetime yet and will almost certainly be a downgrade in nearly every way, regardless of how poorly you think DG is playing.

You make great points and I thought of them as well. I'm not saying Shane would be an upgrade, but only that if DG continues to make mistakes, he would not be a downgrade, and the program would be better served with those mistakes being made by the younger player who will still be here next year and cAn learn from them. If DG can get his mental game together(reading defenses, anticipating the WR routes) then obviously this isn't a discussion. I hope this happens, because I agree our backups still have a lot to learn, that should be learned in garbage time of a blow out WIN! I'm all for DG developing his game and becoming an NFL worthy QB, but so far he hasn't shown it... Let's hope he proves all the doubter wrong, me included, and we win the B1G. Go Blue!!!

You wondered about DG being our QB after ND game last year?  You mean the game where he threw for nearly 300 yards and four touchdowns, when he picked up 82 yards on 13 carries (that's a Denard-like 6.3 yards per carry) and another touchdown?  That's the game you wondered about him?  Yes, okay, he did have that one incredibly poor decision on the throw from our own end zone that gave Notre Dame a free touchdown.  He also accounted for five freaking offensive touchdowns.  As Brian would say, comong man.

Yes I did...and you hit it 100%. It was the bone head play that made me "wonder." Notice I said "wonder". I hadn't jumped off the bandwagon yet..... I actually think he started questioning himself after that play. As the QB, and leader of the team, you can never question yourself, or the defense will eat you alive. And they did. I didn't make up my mind until he continued to make mental mistakes...I never said he wasn't physically gifted and a courageous kid. I have pride in the kid, he is tough and never give up. I find it admirable. And regardless, I have a great amount of respect....notice I said "have"....for him! Although, I don't think he does a good job of reading the defenses or being able to anticipate the routes. Which is why he throws a lot of passes late. He has a great arm, and obviously good with his feet. If he could just develop the other two areas, he would be an NFL QB. If not, I don't see how he can... Again, not saying Shane should be the man.... In fact, after the coaches didn't pull DG last week in the blow out, I think (baring injury) there is no way they should pull him now. Only way there should be a change is "in game". If it's shown that DG is having difficulty with the mental side of the game. Otherwise it's DGs job. I hope I clarified my point, agree or disagree... Go Blue!!! And here is to a 55-7 blow out!!
