Another Celebrity Michigan Fan: Colin Jost of SNL

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on October 25th, 2018 at 1:21 PM

We can add Colin Jost of "Saturday Night Live" to the list of celebrity Michigan fans. He grew up on Staten Island and went to Harvard, but he told the Free Press that he was a huge U-M fan growing up: "I think it was a combination of when the Fab Five was there playing basketball and also their football team was great at that time, a Desmond Howard era."

Welcome aboard. How about a "Go Blue" on the next Weekend Update, Colin!

Nice to know. I believe Gilda Radner is the only Michigan alum to be an SNL cast member, while Tom Brady, Madonna and Michael Phelps are the only Michigan alums (yes, Madonna and Phelps are alums) to be guest hosts. Please let me know if I've missed anyone.

M alum Mike O'Brien was a writer for 7 seasons starting in '09 and was a featured player in '13-14.  He went on to create the NBC show "AP Bio"

I'm not sure if Tim Robinson is an alum, but I'm pretty sure he is a fan. After one episode when they do the group goodbye, I saw him in a maize and blue winged helmet. Though it could have been a Clarkston helmet.

Neither Phelps or Madonna are alums...Phelps took classes while training here, but never pursued a degree, and Madonna dropped out. I still claim them as UM fans though, like Jeter.

Haven’t thought most of SNL has been funny since Will Farrell left.

The Californians and Black Jeopardy are pretty good tho.

Never heard of this guy you mentioned though.

So you're the fan of The Californians. I'm not one to crap on SNL but The Californians must be fun for the cast to perform because that's the one reason I can think of as to why it keeps getting rolled out. It's always way too long and gets very few laughs. It was actually perfect to include it in the 40th Anniversary show.

Black Jeopardy is great. The Tom Hanks and Black Panther editions were excellent.

Used to watch SNL religiously back from the Farley years up until around when Bill Hader left. But I really don’t care for it anymore. These days it’s nothing more than a 90 minute political diatribe.

Bill Hader is brilliant, isn't he? Stefon is one of the most hilarious recurring SNL characters of the past decade or so. Absolutely knee-slapping good in Superbad, Pineapple Express, and Adventureland. Simply a tremendously funny dude. On a winter snowstorm weekend, I'm going to rent a bunch of Bill Hader movies I haven't yet seen.

He's got to be tied for the unfunniest host of Weekend Update ever.  He's tied, of course, with his current co-host.

I loved in the 90s when people said SNL sucks so bad, these folks are shadows of the 70s!

... assuming we will just keep going ...

SNL cannot be amazing every week in every sketch. It is literally writing and performing 60 minutes of sketches and jokes over a 7 day period. Pretty incredible they have anything fit to be bad.

And then they actually make something awesome once in a while too.

If you give a shit if a celebrity is a fan of the team you root for. You should not have a job with any responsibility.
